The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that the cancer Elder L. Tom Perry is suffering from has spread.

Mormon Newsroom reports that Perry was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last month and it is terminal. Church spokesman, Eric Hawkins, expresses gratitude to Church members on behalf of Perry.

Elder Perry has asked that we share his thanks for the prayers and kindness extended to him by Church members and friends,” said Hawkins. “Despite earlier treatments, cancer has spread aggressively to his lungs and beyond… He will no longer attend meetings, though he is still receiving visits from members of the Quorum of the Twelve, the First Presidency, and close family.”

Hawkins also reported that the 92-year-old apostle is currently at his home and will begin receiving hospice care in the coming days.
