On Wednesday Utah lawmakers, community leaders, and representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a press conference in support of Utah Senate Bill 296, the “Anti-Discrimination and Religious Freedom Amendments.”

Members of both parties came together to publicly support the bill, which according to Mormon Newsroom “provides robust religious freedom protections while also extending protections for LGBT people in areas of housing and employment.” Lawmakers will vote on the bill before the session ends next week.

Among those in attendance were Elder L. Tom Perry, Elder D. Todd Christofferson, and Sister Neill F. Marriott.

During the press conference, Elder Christofferson said,

Today we want to express deep gratitude and appreciation to those who have worked so diligently to craft a solution which can serve as an effective model for other local and state governments wrestling with these same complex issues.
