President Nelson’s Invitation for 2025
Editor’s note: On January 1, 2025, President Russell M. Nelson, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, shared a special message and invitation that promises to inspire and strengthen Christ’s disciples around the world.
This article seeks to reflect the spirit of that message, which marks the beginning of a year full of hope and purpose.
An invitation to begin the year with Christ in your heart
Happy New Year! As we enter 2025, we are witnessing a historic and deeply meaningful moment. President Russell M. Nelson, celebrating his 101st New Year, shared a message filled with love, purpose, and an invitation that connects us to the most sacred thing: Jesus Christ.
Twenty-five years ago, on January 1, 2000, the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles released The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles, a document solemnly declaring the divinity and mission of Jesus Christ.
Of the original signers, only four Apostles are living today: Presidents Russell M. Nelson, Dallin H. Oaks, Henry B. Eyring, and Jeffrey R. Holland. This testimony has touched millions of lives, inviting all to a deeper knowledge of the Savior.
Reflecting on this milestone, President Nelson expressed that studying this testimony renews his daily desire to become more Christlike.
In his message, he shared his excitement about “new beginnings” and offered a special invitation for this year:
President Nelson’s Invitation
President Nelson invites us to make the temple a priority in our lives. He said:
I invite you to go to the temple as often as your circumstances permit. In the House of the Lord, we focus on Jesus Christ; we learn about Him and His gospel; and we make covenants that unite us to Him and to our Heavenly Father.
In the temple, we not only find peace and guidance, but we are also strengthened to face challenges and fulfill our New Year’s resolutions.
Every visit to the temple is an opportunity to renew our faith, commit ourselves to the gospel, and feel the power of the Savior working in our lives.
A New Year full of light and purpose
President Nelson concluded his message with a heartfelt prayer:
“My dear friends, I pray that this new year will be filled with the light, love, joy and power of our Savior and Redeemer, who is the Living Christ.”
These words resonate as a tender invitation to begin this year with hope, allowing the love of Christ to illuminate every step we take.
Do we accept the invitation?
In 2025, we have the opportunity to respond to this special invitation. Whether we visit the temple for the first time, strive to go more often, or simply take its message to heart, we can grow closer to Christ and feel His influence in our lives.
Just as “The Living Christ” has inspired generations over the past 25 years, our decisions to follow the Savior can make a difference in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Let us begin this year with purpose, gratitude and a firm desire to walk closer to Him. Do you accept the call?
