Single Men 40 Years of Age or Older May be Senior Missionaries
Serving a full-time mission, whether as a youth or later in life, is a goal for many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
To fully embrace the gifts, talents, and experiences of more Church members around the world, the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have expanded missionary opportunities for Church members age 40 and older .
Single men aged 40 years old can be missionaries
Beginning November 1, 2024, single men age 40 or older may be called as full-time senior missionaries if they have no dependent children living at home.
Those serving in this capacity will be considered for various assignments in area and mission offices, family history, and other roles for which they have experience (e.g., medical, legal, and other fields).
Like most single older sisters, single elders will devote themselves to their individual area of responsibility and will not serve in a company.
Senior single missionaries , like senior couples, may serve for 6, 12, 18, or 23 months.
The types of missionary assignments available to single women age 40 and older have also been expanded. In addition to their current roles supporting local Church units, advising missions on medical matters, working in family history, and other roles in mission offices, possible assignments will now include visitor centers, historic sites, employment centers, and additional roles in area and mission offices.
Members seeking to serve must meet the Church’s health and financial support requirements. Full-time senior missionaries typically work 40 or more hours a week and will serve away from home.
Bishops may initiate full-time missionary recommendations using the Missionary Recommendation System.
