Houston News Outlet Talks One-on-One With President Nelson About Mormon Missionaries

Art Rascon, a reporter for Houston’s ABC 13, sat down with Elder Russell M. Nelson to discuss the missionary program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nelson recently traveled to Houston, Texas, to visit with the nearly 600 missionaries in the area. While on his visit, he sat down with Rascon and explained why the Church has missionaries. “The missionaries only come for one reason,” Nelson said. “And that is to make life better for people.”

Rascon explains that Nelson, a world renowned heart-surgeon, is next in line to be prophet of the Church. However, even with his high calling within the Church, Nelson feels honored to spend time with the young missionaries.

I am convinced that this is the finest generation of young people to ever come to the planet earth. And to meet with them, try to inspire them, lift them and teach them, is a great privilege.

The apostle also shared that he stands “all amazed at the power, strength and brilliance, of [the Church’s] missionaries… particularly the sisters.”
