LDS Temple Locations Increasing, Reaching More Members

Many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who live across the globe still have to travel for miles, days, even weeks to reach a temple, but travel time is being drastically cut as temples are being planned, constructed, and dedicated in the farthest reaches of the world. Deseret News released an article today exploring how temple locations are expanding across the globe and the added benefits that temples bring to members.

The Church has a total of 170 temples so far, 81 of those are located in the United States, and the remaining 89 can be found internationally.

In 2008, President Monson announced the plans for the Rome Italy temple which has recently been garnering attention.

Concerning the Rome Italy temple, President Monson mentioned,

Each is the house of the Lord. And each carries the message that life is eternal, that a loving Heavenly Father has provided a way whereby we may be together forever as families.

The Rome, Italy temple is estimated to be dedicated in 2015.

In the last General Conference, there were no new temples added to the 29 already announced. President Monson explained that the Church would be focusing efforts on upcoming dedications and  temples already under construction.
