Ireland news source, The Irish Times, features Eric Davis, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, describing his move to Ireland.

In a segment called, “New to the Parish,” The Irish Times features a video segment of stories about individuals who are new to the country. Davis, who moved to Ireland two years ago, tells how he lives his Mormon faith in a culture very different than what he is used to.

Davis explains that he makes it a point to attend church no matter where he is or even if he is on vacation. In fact, when Davis moved to Ireland, he arrived on a Sunday morning. He states that he dropped his bags off at his new apartment and went straight to church. He reflects on his first day of church in the country, saying,

I walked away with a family. People who put their arms around me, welcomed me to Ireland and people who have become very close friends over the last couple years.

Although Davis loves the time he has spent in Ireland, he says the biggest culture difference is Ireland’s emphasis on drinking. Davis, who doesn’t drink due to his Mormon beliefs, has found the dating scene, and virtually all social gatherings, revolve around drinking.
