New App Launched to Help Plan FHE

Have you ever been stuck on what lesson to teach or which activity to do with your family for Family Home Evening (FHE) each week? Well there’s an app for that. The Family Night App has a continually growing library that exists to help parents more easily plan their family’s FHE each week.

The app, although not officially affiliated or endorsed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, supports the Church leaders in their endeavors to encourage members to hold weekly FHE with their own families. The 15th prophet of the Church, President Gordon B. Hinckley, once said:

The family becomes a very important thing in our teaching and in our practice. We believe that the family is the basic unit of society. You can’t have a strong community without strong families. You can’t have a strong nation without strong families—the father, the mother, the children as one unit working together.

To help members unite their families and follow prophetic counsel, the app provides users with some really cool features:

Weekly Automated Assignment Tracking

The weekly assignment tracking takes care of all of the scheduling for you. This app allows you to plug in the different members of your family so it can then rotate each person through different tasks (lesson, prayer, song, treat, and activity), allowing each person a chance to be responsible for a different part of the evening. Different tasks can be enabled or disabled so that the tracking will only rotate through the assignments the user wishes to include for his or her family.

Object Lessons

The app has a growing library full of ideas for lessons to teach your family of all ages…this includes object lessons! Learn all the different ways you can enhance the time together as a family and really help the principles and teachings resonate with your children.

LDS Music

Hymns (including songs from the Children’s Hymn Book), provides families the ability to quickly choose a song and to sing even without an accompanist—the music plays straight from the app!

Recipes

Don’t worry about not having a delicious treat for afterwards anymore. The Family Night app gives users plenty of fun and tasteful treats the whole family can enjoy.

Activities

Nothing is worse than realizing it is Monday night and absolutely no plans have been made for FHE. The app lists several activity ideas for families to enjoy together.

Access to Church Resources

The app brings various Church resources together so users can find lesson helps, quotes, videos, and much more, all in one location. Here’s a list of the available resources the app offers:

  • LDS.org
  • Mormon.org
  • General Conference
  • Gospel Art
  • The Scriptures
  • CES Devotionals
  • LDS Newsroom
  • Bible Videos – The Life of Christ

The Family Night App is available for all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, but is optimized for the iPhone 5. The app requires iOS 6.0 or later to be downloaded. The app is available in the iTunes Store for $1.99. Users must be 17 years of age or older in order to download it.
