A website that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launched provides a new planning guide for stakes and wards to orchestrate, or update, their emergency preparedness plans.

The emergency guide is available at preparedness.churchofjesuschrist.org and helps ward and stake leaders around the world know how they can create a fine-tuned plan based on their needs and circumstances. The website encourages leaders to create plans that are brief, simple and coordinated with community plans.

The guide provides five steps for local Church leaders to reference. Those steps are outlined as the following:

  1. Identify Likely Disaster
  2. Gather Critical Information
  3. Outline Assignments and Procedures
  4. Identify Emergency Communication Methods
  5. Encourage Member Preparation

Ezekial 38:7 states, “Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.”

Following the counsel given in Ezekial, the guide encourages leaders to consider their ward or stake’s individual circumstances. For instance, understanding special needs specific ward members may have, being aware of special skills members in the ward may have, and knowing what resources in the community are available and which are limited, will help the plan be more effective.
