Act on the First Prompting
“Joseph Smith said if we will act on the first prompting, we will get it right nine times out of ten. In other words, it’s almost always from God.
I think what’s important to note there, Joseph wouldn’t have taught us to act on the first prompting if he didn’t know for a fact there was going to be a second prompting.
Satan is also a spirit. Now, when he’s trying to prompt us to do something wrong, he’s easy to recognize. But when he’s simply trying to talk us out of doing what the Holy Ghost told us to do, that’s when he’s super dangerous. He uses great logic, and he comes right on the heels of this thought that popped into our head that we think is our own thought and so then he gives us the reasons why we shouldn’t do it… and we usually give in to that.
We have to recognize the promptings from the Holy Ghost, but we also have to recognize the promptings from Satan so we won’t act on it.”
