Michael Mansfield told his mom from prison, “When I get out, I’m joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” She was skeptical—he had made promises to change before. But this time was different.

Michael started smoking weed at 14, using cocaine at 16, and was addicted to meth from age 17 to 33. Despite money, drugs, and women, nothing filled the emptiness. Then in 2017, sitting in a 6×10 prison cell, someone handed him the Book of Mormon—he read it in just 11 days.

The story of Alma the Younger, a man once lost in sin who became an instrument in God’s hands, resonated deeply. Michael thought, Why couldn’t that be me?

No amount of money can cure addiction. But the gospel of Jesus Christ gave Michael Mansfield the strength to change. It brought a peace he had never known.

Today, he’s a devoted member of the Church, living with purpose and faith.

After 20 long, dark years of addiction, the Book of Mormon did what prison and rehab never could—it set Michael Mansfield free.
