Is the Proclamation on the Family Here to Stay?

The Proclamation on the Family was first announced in 1995. That is nearly 30 years ago and some are wondering if this proclamation is still relevant today. In the scriptures we can find multiple examples of captains turning to the Lord before battle to better understand the enemy’s battle plan and how to defend themselves. The family is central to God’s plan and this proclamation outlines ways we can protect and cherish God’s children and the family as a whole.

While reading the Proclamation on the Family, ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Is this truth?
  2. How does this show God’s love for me and all of His children?
  3. How can I have more love, compassion, and understanding for someone who doesn’t feel the same way as I do about the proclamation?

And for things that we don’t understand right now, remember that God knows all things. Turn to Him. Talk with Him.

This conference Pres Oaks explained that some permanent commandments need reemphasis in the circumstances of the present day and that โ€œthese include the proclamation on the family.โ€ This topic itself tends to bring up contention but the main commandment he felt to re-emphasize during his talk was to be a peacemaker. I think sometimes we are tempted to toss aside doctrine in the name of peace but that is not the answer. Studying the Family Proclamation and asking the questions I suggested has helped me approach this topic in a more peaceful way. I hope it helps! #thefamilyproclamation #familyproclamation #dallinhoaks #peacemaker #doctrineofchrist #doctrineofthefamily #genconf
