Jesus Taught One by One

“One cool thought about Jesus’ appearance to the Nephites is that he connected with them one by one. 1 Nephi 17 tells us there were about 2500 people there. If they would have taken 30 seconds each, it would have taken the Savior nearly 21 hours to see everyone. We can cite examples of the Savior teaching huge groups of people, but this moment was about more than teaching. He wanted them to know Him… not just about Him and His teachings.

President Ballard once said, ‘In the eyes of the Lord, there may be only one size of audience that is of lasting importance and that is just one, each one, you and me, and each one of the children of God. The irony of the Atonement is that it is infinite and eternal, yet it is applied individually, one person at a time.’

There have been subtle changes in the For the Strength of Youth manual, seminary curriculum, and even our General Conference talks. We’re starting to focus less on rules, and more on relationship with Christ. The commandments will always be there. Nothing’s changed. But the emphasis on why we keep those commandments is infinitely more important.

What helps strengthen your relationship with the Savior? Not just know about Him, but to know Him?”
