  2. Heh. Colorado law allows unaffiliated voters (such as myself) to vote in either the Dem or Rep caucuses. Imma vote for Bernie. That way, America will have one of the most real choices for president in my life - a clear cut case between capitalism and socialism.

You have to admire a guy who's willing to tell it like it is, even when it's exceedingly and eternally bad news for himself. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democracy-2020-digest-bernie-panic-spreads-inside-the-party Hours earlier, on a Wednesday night conference call with supporters and donors, a fired-up Biden said: “I'll be damned if we're gonna lose this nomination, particularly if we're gonna lose this nomination and end up losing an election to Donald Trump.”

  5. @Scott: the short answer to your question is “probably no”. A longer answer might engage with the manual’s discussion of necessity and affordability, and point out that the 2020 process of administering roads, schools, medical care, and retirement is both less efficient and staggeringly more expensive now than it was in 1939. Moreover, the yardstick for what constitutes an “acceptable” level of service in each of those fields has changed substantially over time. Many doctrinaire conservatives would be thrilled to pay *only* what it would take to have government maintain a system of primarily dirt roads with no interstates, one-room schoolhouses with no administration and with teaching aids limited to a chalkboard and a Bible and McGuffey’s Reader, medical care that only funds treatments and procedures and equipment that existed in 1939, and monthly retirement benefits of $22.34 in 1940 dollars (or about $420 now) beginning at a “retirement age” that just happens to also be the average life expectancy age for women (who as we all know, live longer than men. Approve a “retirement system” that was intentionally designed so that fully one-half of American working men will pay into the fund but never get a dime from it? Suuuure!!!). But I don’t think modern Americans would be very happy with the limited services provided by such a scheme. And it would be kind of dishonest for Berniecrats (or their apologists) to pretend that all they want is a regimen that a Church course hypothesized, as an intellectual exercise, some eighty years ago (and aspects of which, by the way, the Church’s highest leaders explicitly warned against before, during, and after the duration of that course).

  9. That's the risk I'm taking, but I figure he does not. I have hope that a Trump vs. Sanders race would have people voting out of a winning economy first, and a growing awareness of the evils of socialism second. I'm more worried about Buttigeg. For people who want a return to sanity, a quick visit to his wikipedia page almost sold me. Plus, a Trump vs. Buttigeg race would have a ton of low-information useful-idiot 20-30-somethings both pushed away from Trump's odious meanness, and pulled towards the woke ability to vote for a gay guy. Scary stuff.

  13. They can be blessed by the Power of the Priesthood, however, they will not have an individual which has the Authority to perform certain Priesthood actions (Such as ordinances) in the Home. For example, if a single lady wants the home to be dedicated in a Priesthood ordinance, she can pray and ask the Lord to bless the home and her, but for the actual dedication under a Priesthood Holder or one that has been granted that authority, she would need to call someone else. The example given above regarding officers could apply to this. A Police officer has been granted the authority to do certain actions. We cannot take those same actions legally. We cannot give a speeding ticket. We cannot put someone in jail. However, we all can experience life under the laws of the land, or have the freedom to stop people from intruding in our homes (well, in many nations we have that freedom). We may even be able to make citizen arrests in some places of the world. However, there are some functions that Police officers are specifically authorized to do which we (as your everyday citizen) cannot do. (though @mirkwood I think he's a Police officer...might be able to). We all can experience and be blessed by the Priesthood. We can be blessed by the Power of the Priesthood and we can also be blessed by the ordinances given out by the Authority of the Priesthood. There is a difference between the two though sometimes we use them as the same term. However, one also must be careful not to conflate too much to being able to wield the power of the Priesthood without the proper authority. This is why there needed to be a restoration of the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood. We do not believe that the Catholic church or any other church has the correct authority to perform the ordinances necessary for salvation except our own church. One needs to be ordained to perform things that require the authority to do so. Without the authority given under the Priesthood, no one can receive the blessings there of. No one is there to be the representative of the Lord or stand in his place as his representative authorized by him without the proper ordination (and guidance of the spirit) in that manner. When one claims more authority than that which has been granted, it is like us impersonating a Police officer. It does not matter how many may believe us, we still do not have the authority. This has been a vital claim on the legitimacy (and necessity) of our church in the past. As such, if we did away with such a teaching to say anyone can use the priesthood authority in whatever manner they desire, it would delegitimize part of the teachings of the Church of the past (though who knows what would happen in the future). On the otherhand, we can all have the blessings of the Priesthood in our lives and we can experience the power of the Preisthood in our lives regardless of whether we are priesthood holders or not. There are several ways that one can experience these things, however, most of what I've discussed in this thread deals with Priesthood authority and why that is important (especially) for the Fathers of the Home. And I am putting this divider in as what follows is connected, but in some ways different as well and addresses a different topic. I thought about starting another thread regarding this, but it is connected to what I wrote in this thread and the reason I jumped in (originally I was happy to let it go as it was going) I know this is a thread about Women in the Priesthood, but an alarming thing I feel in the Church is that we are losing many of the Men. I saw a survey that was done several years ago that showed that back then they were losing enough young men in the church that Single Women outnumbered Men by a 3 to 2 ratio. As one advanced in age, the number of single women to single men got much worse to where at one point it exceeded 10 to 1. This is alarming because it means even if every woman in the Church that is active WANTS to have a celestial marriage, at that point (and it's probably worse now) would not be able to be married in the temple. There simply are not enough men to marry women to do so. I can understand the reasons on emphasizing women's roles in the church and what they can do, but sometimes we do it by de-emphasizing the role of Husbands and Fathers. One way to get people uninterested or to lose interest in an organization is to make them feel unimportant or unwanted. I think some of the recent moves of the Church has been to deemphasize the importance of the Priesthood Authority and Fathers and Husbands, which may accelerate this trend (I do not know the current numbers of men in the church and their ratios to women) of more men leaving the church or not joining the church leaving uneven numbers between men and women. When I saw in this thread people not realizing the importance of Fathers and Husbands being Preisthood holders, or being given the Aaronic or Melchizedek Priesthood I felt a need to emphasize that there IS an importance to being a Priesthood Holder, that there are divine rights and privileges granted to Fathers and Husbands because they are righteous Priesthood holders. This is because there IS order in the Kingdom and within the Church, otherwise we might as well join the (more liberal...conservative ones would disagree with this) Baptists who feel the Priesthood can come upon any who ask and wield it with equal power and authority to any other without ordination or any other thing other than them simply acting Christian.

  19. I agree, Amos 3:7 and D&C 49: 6-7 can co-exist and there is no contradiction between them. The apparent contradiction I was seeking to draw attention to is between Amos 3:7 where the Lord says He will reveal His secrets to His servants, the prophets, and D&C 130: 14 - 16, where the Lord chose very clearly not to reveal a particular secret to His prophet Joseph Smith. And if the Lord chose not to give wisdom to Joseph Smith regarding the timing of His second coming, then that might raise questions about the promise contained in James 1:5 where the Lord promises to give wisdom liberally to all that ask in faith.

    Women and Priesthood Power

That sounds remarkably...sexist. You might consider that a man, President Nelson, did indeed teach you how to use Priesthood power. You might also want to consider that millions of men around the world are taught by their Priesthood leaders—who are men—how to use Priesthood power. Unless you think Priesthood power operates differently for women, or perhaps is an altogether different thing for women, than for men, I would think that men might have a very great deal to teach women about receiving and enabling Priesthood power. Don't you agree?

  24. "Without the priesthood" is a silly statement. NOTHING in the Plan of Salvation - not a single thing, not prayer, not blessings, not covenants, not even the Atonement - happens without the priesthood. Sounds like you have some studying to do. It's like somebody breathing oxygen and saying, anyone can breathe without oxygen - because he didn't see it.

  25. Sometimes I see how people try to accommodate or bend their relationship with God to influences. In reality, why bother. The point is not agreement from this world as to its truths. The truth is what He says, and not what his opponents go on about, being themselves total cowards who gave up on Him and became secular [religious!] sycophants.

  27. A little background here: The classical "Trinity", as outlined by the Athanasian Creed, states that the Father, Son, and Spirit are 3 different persons in 1 God,. They are one through a shared substance. The LDS Christian view is a little different: the Father, Son, and Spirit are 3 different persons in 1 God. They are one through unity. One truth, one goodness, one way, one glory, one family, etc. So yes, LDS Christians will agree that the Father and Son, and Spirit are a family, but it's a more complex family with as are all of us as the Father's children.

  29. Well, i remained agnostic. Until one day I hit rock bottom, and I realized I always knew He was there, and I began to talk to Him. I did not ask Him for anything. All I did was give Him my promises, several things and i cried for a long time, feeling so lonely for Him, yet not believing he would want me. Then, I began to feel very soft inside, and that He was talking to me. He showed me many things in the other world, was all very quickly and i couldn't remember all in my mind, only in my soul could I feel what was meant. Many things he has shown me, incredible to describe, though even now, not all of them at the time did I completely understand. There are others, but one simple most gorgeous experience with Him was in spring of 2016. A couple of times He showed me events in scripture, and I was there, but this time I was on His lap, and how it felt was love. I was a little child and He was pouring His words into me and I understood them. It sounds unbelievable but in the context all He said made perfect sense, yet were no material words to understand by.. He talked to my soul and I could feel the meanings of all He said, all at once.

  30. I would go as far to say that evangelicalism as a concept (not directed at a specific soul, just the system) is in trouble with Him, for having rejected His Spirit, who is she, our mother. That was not a smart move but apparently rome was very busy making the all male trinity a standard. Even Irenaeus knew His Spirit was female. Until Medieval Rome came in labeling many early christians 'gnostics' to impose its canon, and branding many heretics. So, from my view the reformation failed, and Medieval assumptions continue to affect Christianity. I was told once by a catholic priest, since I taught theology and philosophy at a catholic university in the past, that the catholic church is essentially augustinian. Well... so is modern christianity! And augustine was a mess...so I wish modern christianity would abandon his views. He was sure to make sure that no one in their right mind would ever ever ever realize that His Spirit is His very soul and is Feminine. His wife, one God, just as all the 144k sons also has his feminine counterpart. That is the pattern of Heaven. Love. Anyway, I'm sorry i overextended me. I still have the flu and perhaps I am not speaking as clearly as would be best.

  31. I am not saying what my means that there was a fall, since I still have questions!, though I do view the fall as negative. But the dancing will be each of his 144k with his girl. In context of Eden, how I understand what He showed me, we are made in his image, which is elohim, and the Image of God. His image is male and Female, of He and Mother of whose image we are made. Female is the core of male, just as she is His core and all the love. And each female soul of His is the same image, where the male speaks the word (his female), and it is not a higher and lower but a very pretty dance. Many ask why in scripture 'no one sees God'. My understanding is that that line refers to she... she is referred to not Him by that line, and of course no one sees her but Him. Just as for each male, his family and relationship is private. This is why there are 144k sons going to heaven (as the first, at the Change) and no mention is made of the 144k females, yet of course each girl is going with her male who God gave her to. After the change, the 144k will help many more millions upon this earth to go Home. That said, I'm not saying females are hidden or how that works... only having seen a glimpse... I use that expression as analogy of the family, since the family is private and yet are with all the others and share and love God with many others, together.

  38. Some elements of Holy Week and Christmas often bring up the question of the value of liturgy in Christianity. I was out and about town last night and caught a portion of an Evangelical radio program called Breakpoint and they were talking about the lack of formal liturgy in many Evangelical churches, and how some of that liturgy is starting to make its way into some Evangelical churches. One of the hosts reflected that, until very recently, he did not recall ever having or attending a Maundy Thursday or Good Friday service (for the record, his opinion was overall positive to see some of these liturgical elements entering the churches he was familiar with). I recall another essay I read where the author was describing insights gained attending a Good Friday service that included the symbolic elements that many traditional liturgical churches include that help the worshiper symbolically relive the historic experience of laying Christ in the tomb and reflecting on what that might mean when the promise of Easter is a somewhat unkown thing yet three days in the future. My question for the group (and I am putting this in Christian Beliefs because I would like views from those across the Christian spectrum) is just to get opinions on these liturgical elements. Respectfully like or dislike them? Do they add to your worship, or detract? Would you like more or less? Any other thoughts?

  40. The answer to that question is No. I want to point out that there is no such prophecy. There is an in depth article that can be found on byustudies if u google Edwin Rushton white horse prophecy. Two parts can be sources to Joseph Smith. 1. That the constitution would hang by a thread and 2. That the saints would find refuge in the rocky mountains. Both have already occurred. The rest is speculation about some future event that will never happen. The church refuted the white horse prophecy in 1918. It is not a reliable document. It is based on the false notions of mankind who do not understand the Book of Revelations. The 4 horsemen of that revelation have already come and gone. Any reference to them now is just fuel for Hollywood fictional drama.

  41. This has no bearing on the value of money. This only affects speculative investments like stock prices. Regardless of how optimistic or pessimistic a population is of the value of their investment, $500 will still remain to be worth a specific basket of goods. This also does not have any bearing on the value of $500. Ethics only come into play when governments print more money without a corresponding increase in productivity causing a devaluation of the currency. The value of money is backed by tangible products. That is why you can use it to trade for products. Detaching money from productivity makes money just another piece of paper that has no meaning.
