  1. Our Stake started going back in June. (In one of the highest outbreaks and death rate States in the US.) Our ward met every week. They require mask but the Stake leadership even had everyone singing. Fast Forward to September. We received a new Stake Presidency and they immediately took all wards back to meeting 2 times a month, no singing and reduced the number allowed by about 30%. The area authority that attended the creation of the new Stake and Stake presidency had some interesting comments. One was we needed to get use to wearing mask, it was going to be a while before that need goes away. Second he asked members who were not attending church because they didn’t want to wear a mask, to reconsider their decision. Finally our previous Stake president had played pretty lose with the virus issues. He even had his mask off at times while sitting on the stand with the Area Authority. He quietly put his mask back on once the area authority made his comments above.

  2. I think it is fair to conclude from the discussion that General Authorities do not sign over their property and are then given an assignment to be stewards over that property. These articles are also instructive and help prevent confusion, innuendo, etc.: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/history/topics/united-firm-united-order?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/revelations-in-context/newel-k-whitney-and-the-united-firm?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/gs/united-order?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/1986/06/i-have-a-question/why-is-the-united-order-not-practiced-today?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/inspiration/latter-day-saints-channel/listen/series/past-impressions-audio/the-united-order-episode-21?lang=eng

  3. I was actually told differently. I was told that all those things I spoke of were all Aleph0. And there were more things in Aleph1. But as I said, I have no idea what that means. The person telling me all this struggled to explain it himself. And the example he gave me was something I disproved in a couple minutes. Maybe he didn't know either. Thanks for clarifying that you're working off a dimensional model. I want to revisit this just so it can be closed cleanly. infinityn has cardinality of Aleph0. This can be shown using the same argument that's used for INFRational having cardinality Aleph0. You line up all the whole numbers on one axis and all the whole numbers on another axis and you cleanly map the 2D to 1D with zigzags. A special zigzag you can use for this is the Hilbert curve. This is useful because there's a 3D analog that maps cleanly to 1D. I haven't done anything rigorous, but given the nature of nD cubes, I imagine you have that mapping for any infinityn. I'm not sure if it applies to infinityinfinity. and all bets are off if you intend to use INFReals for your axes (since just the first axis alone is in Aleph1). I don't see this as much different than the original 3-d and infinite-D model. Sure there is a numerical difference. But conceptually, they're pretty much the same. The difference is that for any given y, x12 = x23. This is essentially the math equivalent of eat, drink, and be merry. God will be us with a few stripes, but eventually we'll have all the same experiences as Celestial people. It just takes longer. And who really cares about longer when we're talking about eternity? In contrast, the dimensional model says you will never experience "up, but not North".

  4. I'm not sure. On the one hand, I see the value in experimenting with different implementations of covenant principles to discover what actually works and what doesn't. For one thing it dispels a lot of myths and fantasies about what God is actually asking for (refer back to Traveler's or LoudMouthMormon's comments about what happens when you help the poor monetarily but not with skills training; or the back-and-forth in this thread about whether it's really just the labor that's deeded out or if the property is actually stewarded). For another it becomes something of a pilot program for the large-scale thing. Based on Discourses of Brigham Young, I gather that Brigham's vision of the Millennial government was essentially that Christ will return, say "Zion has it right" and then roll it out across other communities. On the other hand, we have the story of Zeniff in the Book of Mormon. He describes himself as being zealous in reclaiming the Nephite inheritance, but seems to recognize that he displayed a terrible lack of wisdom in some of the agreements he entered; which left them vexed by the Lamanites in his time and in bondage within a few generations. And I must admit that head-image me would look askance at anyone who told me they were purchasing land in Missouri just so they could donate it when the Church eventually asks for it. So I can see how it would be unwise to start practicing the United Order without additional (revealed) guidance. But on the other hand, Zeniff, Noah, and Limhi's interactions with the Lamanites seem to provide a turning point. Nephi, Jacob, and Enos all sent out missionary efforts to reclaim them but failed tremendously. It's not until after they've have a community of Nephites live among them for generations that Mosiah's sons are able to make any headway. So if the Lord wasn't behind the initial zeal He certainly turned it for His own purposes. So God can certainly consecrate such efforts for good. But on the other hand, can isn't the same as will. And the question was about the wisdom of it not the utility in God's economy. But on the other hand.....

  5. I think it was a mix. Some items they purchased; other items, they simply worked to connect Hofmann with buyers who they hoped would handle the documents sympathetically. That, I believe, is why the bombings happened—Hofmann went bragging about how he had the McLellin journals, the Church got him in touch with Steve Christensen, Christensen got over-anxious and wanted to close the deal before Hofmann had finished making the forgeries, and so Hofmann sent the bomb to get Christensen off his back (and the second to divert investigators as to the source of the bombs).

  6. Thank you. Please be reminded that I am looking for a reference (originally requested of the OP), and while I appreciate your replies, you might provide one from your personal contacts: Did these General Authorities tell you that they “signed over their property” and “were given an assignment to be stewards over that property” as posted in the OP (3rd - 5th paragraphs)? @Carborendum in case you missed my original request: Posted yesterday at 09:35 AM Thank you!

  7. Thank you. How is it you have personal contact with a General Authority, and would you describe your contact and relationship with him?

  8. Thank you. This is not a practice I was aware of among our General Authorities, and so would like to read more than a post a message board ☺️. I am interested in the factual basis upon which the statement that was made, preferably a Church source describing what has been posted, if one exists. Otherwise my interest level drops precipitously, quickly.

  9. I think the basis of disagreement is founded in conflating an asymptotic limit vs a dimensional limit. I had thought the limit of a Telestial was like a really, really big box. The Terrestrial is just a much bigger box. I'm thinking this is wrong. I'm now thinking the Telestial is more like being stuck on a line that goes on forever. A train track on a long journey that goes on forever. As long as you keep moving along that train track, you can continue to improve. But you only have one dimension, the track. An infinitely long track. But a single dimension. The Terrestrial would be infinitely wide plane or even a universe. The celestial would not only have an infinite universe. You'd have infinite numbers of infinite universes. (I'm shorthanding my more complete explanation above).

  10. And yet by sweeping the beam from side to side even just a little will allow you to hit an infinite number of trees. Maybe the point is to just keep moving. 😀

  11. I've been in the church building exactly twice since March. The first time was to help set up for a baptism back in June. The second was to do some administrative stuff yesterday afternoon. I've not attended any services. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I will anytime in the near future. My social network consists of the following conditions A niece with no immune response (literally, when parents dropped off their kids in Primary with the sniffles, it wasn't uncommon for her to develop pneumonia within a week) A father with a hospital acquired, medication resistant infection (going to the hospital is a risky ordeal for him without the complications of a respiratory disease) Several Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA participants whose primary adults are their grandparents. We're trying to stay available to be the social outlet for my niece, because her social sphere is so restricted now, which means we have to be pretty careful about where we go and in what ways we interact with people. One of the choices we've made is that we will only participate in activities where masking is required and we can have a reasonable belief that attendees will adhere to best practices. Unfortunately, we have a handful of families that are avid anti-masker, don't-tread-on-my-freedoms type people. Despite the bishopric's best attempts to persuade them that masking up and keeping a little distance would be enough to help a non-insignificant number of people be able to attend, they just refuse. So we won't be going back, because I just can't trust that other members in my ward will have any concern for the health concerns of my family and scouts I am committed to serving. We'll go back when one of these three conditions is met The bishopric enforces masking expectations The CDC declares that preventative measures are no longer necessary The WHO declares the pandemic is over. I suspect that the both wards will be meeting in the building weekly long before any of those conditions are met. If I'm honest, I'm struggling with resentment. It's a new feeling for me. Not sure I like it.

Well... That's gotta be some kind of joke. Tell me the guys who run Antifa.com really didn't believe it would be a good idea to have it re-direct to Joebiden.com.
