  1. One of our sons (teenager) has been struggling with health-related issues for the past few months and we still cannot get a proper diagnosis. It has been exhausting for him and our entire family. Honestly, I feel quite shaky emotionally and I'm not that kind of person but it has been so overwhelming and frustrating to see our own child like this and even do we are doing everything we can, we still cannot get proper answers. I'm not sleeping well and I'm not able to do my best at work either. Having said that, I know the power of prayer, I have been fasting and praying constantly. I know the Lord doesn't abandon us when we most need him but can I please ask you to keep my family and our son in your prayers today? I believe when we unite as brothers and sisters in prayer, anything is possible. Thank you all in advance, I truly appreciate it.

  2. A young man named Marcel is a BYU-I student from Jamaica. During his high school years, he was an exchange student with a family in our area. Due to Visa/immigration stuff, he really couldn't go back to Jamaica for a couple weeks. So, he came here to Texas to spend the time with his host family. He apparently had a heart condition that no one knew about (including himself or his family). He's now in the hospital on life support. His doctors say his heart is at 2% capacity. He is so bad that he cannot be transported without dying in transit. And they can only keep him on life support for so long. His mother is trying to come here to be with him at his last moment. But flight cancellations due to weather have made it difficult for her to arrange a flight from Jamaica. There really is no hope of recovery at this point. But I'd ask for prayers for his family.

  3. I absolutely believe this. On a potentially more koo-koo note, I wonder if we don't have more people out there possessed by demons than we dare imagine. Sure, a lot of possessions in days of yore could be chalked up to unrecognized mental illness, but I don't entirely doubt we don't have the opposite problem.

  5. Anyone who has truly put up food storage has sacrificed purchasing something else in order to have (work towards) a year supply.

  6. I kind of wonder why we pronounce the Russian city as we do. The Russian pronunciation is "Mosk-Vwuh". I'd think a transliteration should be more like Moskway. Whatever. EDIT: https://www.rbth.com/education/330729-moscow-moskva-russia-capital

  7. Both states--I believe all US states today--have a drinking age of 21. When I was a child living in Pullman (home of Washington State University and only a few miles from Moscow, Idaho), Idaho's drinking age was 19. Every weekend you had an exodus of WSU students driving to Moscow and filling up the bars there, then making their way home later. Drunken driving deaths were, shall we say, not unheard of.

  9. I haven't, but then again, I'm only really familiar with mine and my wife's. Have you looked at blessings of your deceased direct-line family members? You can request them here: https://pb.churchofjesuschrist.org/pbrequest/home/family Helpful FAQ here: https://history.churchofjesuschrist.org/faq/library/patriarchal-blessings

  10. 'Cept I can't quite figure out just what I have sacrificed. To go back to the rice and beans, we would see the ginormous bags of rice and beans for a good price and buy them. Our kids attend a Title 1 school that has some program that donates canned food, so that's always around (my toddler thrives on canned green beans). My kids have weird bread phases, so I try to keep a spare bag of bread. I'm not sure I'm going that far out of the way to have spare shelf-stable food around the house. So when I hear people say that one or two days of not getting to the grocery store means starvation for them, I'm kind of befuddled.
