  1. I served a mission in the 70s. In our missionary discussion book, we had a page that listed about 20 scriptures in chronological order from the Book of Mormon. We would take a Book of Mormon and mark it up, circling scriptures and at the bottom write the next page number to go to, to read more marked up scriptures all the way to the back of the book. Then we would hand the book to anyone we would meet on the street. I wish they still did that because I thought it was a good way to introduce what is actually in the Book of Mormon and an incentive to read more of it. Well, I have lost my discussion book with those scriptures. Does anyone have that list and would you post those scriptures? I want to mark up a book and give it to a friend with my testimony in it.
  2. Hi Xiong. I haven't heard that story. If you have it or if you find it, I hope you will post it. I would like to read it.
  3. Yes I finally got the lyrics. The link was staring at me right in the middle of the web page. Thanks for your help too.
  4. For those who may not know, wellies is a word used in Scotland that means rubber boots that you wear in the rain. (Anyone who has ever dressed a child will love this one!) Did you hear about the Pre-School teacher who was helping one of the children put on his "Wellie boots"? He asked for help and she could see why. Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little "Wellies" still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second "Wellie" on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost cried when the little boy said, "Miss, they're on the wrong feet." She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any easier pulling the "Wellies" off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the "Wellies" back on, this time on the right feet. He then announced, "These aren't my Wellies." She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, 'Why didn't you say so?' Once again, she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting "Wellies" off his little feet. No sooner had they gotten the "Wellies" off when he said, "They're my brother's "Wellies", my mum made me wear 'them.' Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But, she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the "Wellies" on his feet again. Helping him into his coat, she asked, "Now, where are your gloves?" He said, "I stuffed them in the toes of my “Wellies”". She will be eligible for parole in three years!
  5. Our Family Dog They will not go quietly, the dogs who've shared our lives. In subtle ways they let us know their spirit still survives. Old habits still make us think we hear a barking at the door. Or step back when we drop a tasty morsel on the floor. Our feet still go around the place the food dish used to be, And, sometimes, coming home at night, we miss them terribly. And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill, That one place in our hearts belongs to them… and always will. ---Anonymous
  6. You're right. I left out the word million. That makes a big difference. Thanks for catching it. Hard to imagine something that is 10 million times brighter than the sun. Just amazing. Learning about that makes me wonder just how bright can something really get?
  7. Only because someone probably kicked them from behind pretty hard. Otherwise, forget it. They'll never fit through.
  8. Massive Star Link This star is twice as heavy as any previously discovered. It is 10 times brighter than our own sun. Knowing how bright our own sun is, it is so hard to imagine something being 10 times brighter. The video at the website was very informative. The universe is just soooo amazing.
  9. I agree. That was awesome. A sermon delivered in a hip-hop way and very nicely done. Thanks for the post.
  10. The church is creating a video about families and they are using a Russian production company. Maybe someone in the company will feel the spirit and listen to the missionaries. Here's the video about this story. The church will be able to show this video in theaters in Russia. It would be great to have them show it on their tvs as well. The church continues to roll forth and nothing will stop it as prophesied.
  11. How can a judge be gay and not let that affect him? Can you imagine the reaction he would get from his own homosexual community throughout this nation if he had voted to support Prop 8? He would never hear the end of it. And I think it would be a little contradicting of him to be gay and to then vote for in favor of Prop 8. So I think he voted the only way he had to vote. Californians voted twice to successfully define what marriage is and one gay judge overturns what the majority voted for. You would think you would get the same reaction from homosexuals had it been a heterosexual judge.
  12. I'm not so sure. I think many religions are concerned that if Prop 8 fails and homosexuals are allowed to marry the next step could very possibly be that homosexuals will fight for the right to marry in their own churches. Then civil rights will clash with religious rights. I don't know what the precedence has been in the past with those types of cases but I would hope religious right would prevail. But the way things are going, you never know.
  13. Even if we just leave religion entirely out of it and placed a hetrosexual judge instead of a homosexual judge, would he not be accused of being biased also? It will be the same thing with the 9th circuit court of appeals judges and even with the US Supreme Court judges. This is going to be very interesting. The majority of this country favors a man and a woman as the definition of marriage but the possibility of being overridden by judges who themselves may be homosexual will be something major. California's been through this twice. Now the rest of the country will have to be involved.
  14. Here is an article about Prop 8 and what may happen. Roe v Wade of Marriage Now I am really interested in knowing which way the 9th circuit court of appeals are going to rule. No matter which way they rule, this is going to the US Supreme Court. What are the possibilities that they will not review this case? What will happen then? But I think they will take this case. Too much depends on it. Now that Kagen is one of them, how will she decide?
  15. THE BATHTUB TEST During a visit to the seniors home, I asked the director how do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized? "Well," said the director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub." "Oh, I understand," I said. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup." "No." said the director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"
  16. This is dedicated to all of you who are seniors, to all of you who know seniors, and to all of you who will become seniors. It pays to be able to laugh about it when you are! "WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!" The irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was. "Madam", said the newspaper employee, "today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY". There was a long pause on the other end of the phone, and then she was heard to mutter, "Well, darn, that's why no one was at church today."
  17. A Taking Centipede A single guy decided life would be more fun if he had a pet. So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet. After some discussion, he finally bought a talking centipede, (100-legged bug), which came in a little white box to use for his house. He took the box back home, found a good spot for the box, and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to church with him. So he asked the centipede in the box,"Would you like to go to church with me today? We will have a good time." But there was no answer from his new pet.. This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked again, "How a bout going to church with me and receive blessings?" But again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet. So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation. The guy decided to invite the centipede one last time. This time he put his face up against the centipede's house and shouted, "Hey, in there! Would you like to go to church with me and learn about God?" ARE YOU READY.... This time, a little voice came out of the box, "I heard you the first time! I'm putting on my shoes!"
  18. I found this story on snopes.com that I thought was interesting. Apparently it's a true story. I also thought the ending was pretty cute. It said: From the mouths of babes! Do all children see God or angels? I don't really know but I believe that some do. And maybe we did too when we were once a baby. It might be part of our mortal development when during that time the veil is placed across our minds and we no longer remember. Heavenly Father's Plan is so perfect. Here is the link: The Smell of Rain
  19. I came upon this by accident and thought I would share it. A young girl with a beautiful insight to heaven. She does a beautiful job painting. I hope she never stops.
  20. You're welcome. It's one of my favorite stories. That soldier had integrity. He kept his word and wanted to take the older lady to dinner even though he would prefer to meet someone else. The young woman on the other hand wanted to peer into his soul to know his true heart.
  21. Another Anti-Mormon trying to sew seeds of doubt? All Anti-Mormons should take a page out of their own bibles and teach the way Jesus taught. He didn't go to the Pharisees or any other group and teach them that their doctrine is wrong. What Jesus did was teach others what He believes in. In other words, he didn't go looking to attack other faiths. I believe he's teaching us the Christian way of doing missionary work.
  22. Billy, if you are sincere in learning then please read this link... Have You Been Saved? You'll find a lot of answers there.
  23. Since it will be Valentine's day soon, I thought I would share this story. I believe it is true but I can not verify it. I can't even remember where I got it from. But none the less, I believe the message it imparts is an important one and worth reading. John, a young soldier, stood up from the bench, straightened his army uniform, and studied the crowd of people making their way through grand Central Terminal in New York City. He was looking for a woman whom he knew, but whose face he didn't. He would recognize her by a small rose in her lapel. Their story began several years before in a Florida used bookstore. He bought a poetry book. When he got home and started to read it, he became intrigued not by the words of the author, but by the notes that were penciled in the margin. The words in a woman’s handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and an insightful mind. In the front of the book, he discovered the previous owner’s name and hometown. With a great deal of effort, he found her address. He wrote her a letter in which he introduced himself. The next day, Pearl Harbor was attacked. He enlisted and was soon shipped overseas. He wrote again. She finally responded. They developed a correspondence. A romance was budding. Every time he requested a photograph, she refused. She said that if it was really meant to be, it wouldn’t really matter what she looked like. Finally, the war was over, and John was to return from overseas. They scheduled their long-awaited meeting on a Friday evening at 7 o’clock at Grand Central. She wrote, “You’ll recognize me by the small red rose that I’ll have in my lapel. He got there two hours early. Let’s let the young soldier tell the rest of the story: “At just about 7 p.m. a young woman was walking toward me. I stood up. She was the most stunning woman I had ever seen in my life. I started moving toward her, and then I noticed that she wasn’t wearing a small rose in her lapel. When she walked past me she said, ‘Going my way, soldier?’ I was just about to follow her when I saw directly behind her another woman who was looking at me expectantly. She was much older than I had imagined and not as attractive as I hoped. She was wearing a small rose in her lapel. I wanted to follow the other woman. But I didn’t. I was clutching the book from the used bookstore that began it all. I was going to give it to her as a present. “‘Hello, I’m John, I’m so glad to meet you.’ “ Even as I said these words, I was thinking of the other woman. ‘Would you like to go to dinner?’ “The older woman seemed confused and said, Son, I don’t know what this is all about, but that beautiful young woman who was walking in front of me pleaded with me to wear this small red rose in my lapel. She said if you were still going to take me out to dinner, I should tell you that she’ll be waiting for you in the restaurant in the hotel right across the street. She said it was some kind of test”
  24. There's certainly nothing wrong with that! As these children show, love comes in many simple yet different ways. Sometimes we adults forget that so let's be young again.
