  1. I cannot remember where I read this, but I believe there was a conference talk given by one of the seventies about the ruling presidencies. The Godhead. First Presidency. The correlation, or relation, between the two and really all presidencies. Elder McConkie might have wrote something on it. It could have been in the Ensign, or it was a devotional. However, I thought it was a conference talk. I can't find it and I was wondering if anyone knows what I am talking about. Thanks for any help.
  2. The principle is we are to have an intake of what are considered "harmful substances." Whether it be carcinogens, caffeine, or tannic acid(I think that is right, one missionary told me that was the problem). Anyways, the point is our bodies are temples, and thus should be treated as such. Do you defile the House of the Lord?(rhetorical) One of the general authorities(want to say Benson), said that Arsenic isn't listed in the word of wisdom, however use of it might limit your other opportunities to partake of harmful substances.(If you know what I mean)
  3. So, first of all, we believe in Christ. And the test as to whether we believe in him is whether we believe his words and whether we believe those whom he hath sent--the apostles and prophets of all the ages. And then, having believed, we have the obligation of conforming to the truths that we have thus learned. If we do conform we begin to grow in spiritual graces. We add to our faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge, and to knowledge temperance and patience and godliness and all of the other attributes and characteristics that are written in the revelations (see 2 Peter 1:5*7). So step by step and degree by degree we begin to become like God our Heavenly Father. Elder Bruce R. McConkie "Jesus Christ and Him Crucified" I Just thought this was really good and I'd throw it out there.
  4. There are two Laws. Justice and Mercy. I have never said that the Lord doesn't judge in mercy. You're right I am not the judge of anyone but ourselves. However, we can see the judgment of justice. We know the law. We say yes I have broken the Law and thus am subject to it. Yes we are beggars, sinners and transgressors. I am held under this same bar. I am under condemnation myself for many things, unless I repent. THAT is the Law of justice. We can never satisfy justice. So we are all condemned forever so we cannot return to live with our Heavenly Father. However, that is why there is the Atonement of Christ. All things are redeemed from their fallen state. Justice is satisfied through Jesus Christ. So the Law we are living for and trying to qualify for is one of Mercy. This mercy is meated out to the pure in heart. The broken heart and the contrite spirit. Why are we justice-oriented? Because that is what we see. We cannot see the mercy. His judgment isn't now. Or rather his Final judgment isn't now. How far the mercy extends we cannot understand. So what is the safest thing to do? Abide the Law of justice as best we can and we know when we have done our best, we will will have qualified for the full blessings of the Atonement. That is why we are the judge of ourselves. It is between us(individually) and the Lord. I agree with what you have said about willow. The Lord knows when we are ready for things. Being away from Church probably allowed her to grow at her own pace. It allowed her to appreciate the gospel more when she got back. There are probably many other reasons, however I do not know everything, because I am not willow, and I am not the Lord. However, oftentimes we ourselves cannot see what we are doing. Sometimes I disobey and I don't realize it. That is when someone else points it out. I have been humbled many a time because of something I have done, and didn't realize that offends the Lord. I began saying stuff on this thread because I felt I had something to contribute. I have studied Elder McConkie A LOT. I know often how he feels on certain matters. I know what he means on many occasions. I am bold to say it. By no means does my understanding compare with his, however I know his pattern and custom and that is all I have to follow. It was pretty apparent that people did not understand what his comment was saying(confusion). I was trying to help understand, of which I am not always clear. I was not trying to offend. I was not trying to harm. I was trying to serve the Lord, and dispense the truth that I knew I had. That I knew, by the Power of the Holy Ghost, was right.
  5. I agree and think your right to a point. The gospel teaches people to be self-reliant. Elder Nelson's talk in conference made this point. Salvation is an individual thing. Exaltation is a family affair. The point being individually WE make OUR decisions. Yes, things appear unfriendly. Your decisions DO NOT affect mine, in the sense that I am judged for your transgressions. I will only be judged for me, and for me alone. Forget anything anybody has ever done for me. That will not affect my judgement other than what has been given to me and what have I done with it. The point with all who leave the Church is this. The core principle is a person has been given the gospel, and has accepted. They have left the neutral ground forever. They will be held accountable for that law that they chose to abide. If they did not abide it, then there will be condemnation if there is no repentance. If they abide it, they will have glory and glory added forever and ever on their heads and have crowned upon them a seal of eternal life. Willow, I know you left the Church and abided the principles as best you could. And you will most undoubtedly be blessed for it, and have been. However, its what one would call being lukewarm in the gospel, meaning that yes you lived a lot of principles of the gospel but you didn't live ALL of them. The Celestial Kingdom is for those who are tried and tested and found faithful in ALL things. The principle you didn't live was appropriate Sabbath worship, which isn't an issue anymore, however for proper Sabbath worship these are the words from the Spencer W. Kimball teachings book. "A full abundant Sabbath includes attending Church meetings and partaking of the Sacrament.(172)." All in all it was YOUR decision to stop coming to Church. Yes there were people that were unfriendly and that gave you good reason to stop coming. However, it was still your choice. You did what you felt was best and we should all do so. Just not at the expense of the Lord's Commandments. Yes there are exceptions to situations. There are no exceptions to indoctrinated principles. I would also like to say, that I am happy you have come back. All things happen for a reason and I would, just as a casual observer, say that maybe that time was needed for you to grow properly and so when you came back you would appreciate the gospel more. I mean no ill will. I just see a doctrinal point that needs to be understood.
  6. Yes. Ultimately, anything that is not of God is a lust of the flesh. All men have them. We all strive to eliminate them. Those feelings of unworthiness come from the devil, whether they are a temptation or a cause. Sometimes the temptation just seems overwhelming so we just submit. This is where the Gospel becomes a strength. When you know the truth, you can just cast it aside. You don't have to remain subject to the devil. It justs takes faith in the Atonement.
  7. One thing that we all must remember was Elder McConkie's understanding, vastly, outstretches most members of the Church. With that in mind, his definition of "lusts of the flesh" is more encompassing than most people. I feel that most people will associate this with immorality. While that is true, there is more to it. My first post was actually a defense of his Church of the Devil stance, if you remember. With that I explained the difference in meanings and how one word will not always be set to mean "one" thing. Same principle. "lust of the flesh" does not mean only immorality, but ungodliness. What is ungodliness? It is obviously all things contrary to godliness, or to God's Laws. One of God's Law's is to Keep the Sabbath Day Holy. Part of that is going to Church, partaking of the Sacrament, and so on. The Sabbath is a time to devote wholly and completely to the Lord. Anytime, I feel I am breaking the Law, I am following my own lusts and desires.
  8. Adam and Eve are ONE through marriage. Their names would also be each other's. Just as Jesus Christ and the Father are referred to by the same names. So, by designating one as Adam, the other or Eve, would also be Adam too, though she is not referred to in that regard. So in one sense there were two Adam's. Thus a plurality of names.
  9. On this website, you can get two books. Duties and Blessings of the Priesthood. Basic manual for Priesthood Holders Part A Duties and Blessings of the Priesthood. Basic manual for Priesthood Holders Part B I got these two books about two months ago. They teach a lot of principles and gives directions for ordinances and so on. Same place as vision's
  10. My mistake, there is one more sentence to be added to the quote. It continues, "... The choice is not between doctrinal concepts, but between differing ways of life." It depends on how you look at it. It is a foundation. Not the branches. Just like the Atonement is the foundation of the Gospel, sin is the foundation of Apostasy. All the small things like rejecting the book of Abraham or not going to Church or whatever are the effects of the desire to live a different lifestyle than the one which the Lord has prescribed for the manner of happiness. Just like tithing and temple worship are part of the Atonement. By rejecting revelations and truths, then they are sinning, and following their own desires, or lusts of the flesh. They are not following the way of the Lord. They are rejecting Him, which is what apostasy is all about. Also, I don't believe there is any way to see DNTC online. I looked about 5 or 6 months ago, but I couldn't find it. I actually ended up finding my grandpa's in a box in the attic, so I was kinda lucky to get one.:)
  11. One great principle that the Church teaches, through the Atonement, is a sacrifice of our will, to that of the Father. Mosiah 15:7 states it best. 7 Yea, even so he shall be led, crucified, and slain, the flesh becoming subject even unto death, the will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father. Of course, this references Jesus Christ. However, He is the Son of God. Are we not sons and daughters of God also? One of the things that made the Atonement work was a complete submission of the will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father. This was the sacrifice offered, by the sinless one. If He had not offered that up, he would have sinned. Then there would have been no Atonement, and we could not be saved, we wold then be forever cast out. Joseph F. Smith in D&C 138:12-14 states,(emphasis on verse 13) 12 And there were gathered together in one place an innumerable company of the spirits of the just, who had been faithful in the testimony of Jesus while they lived in mortality; 13 And who had offered sacrifice in the similitude of the great sacrifice of the Son of God, and had suffered tribulation in their Redeemer's name. 14 All these had departed the mortal life, firm in the hope of a glorious resurrection, through the grace of God the Father and his Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. The similitude is the sacrifice of our will. For those willing, those will be the ones who receive the full blessings of the Atonement and will be saved into the Celestial Kingdom. Otherwise, one who is lukewarm in the gospel who doesn't submit to the will of the Lord in full, will gain a terrestrial inheritance. Now we are not perfect, but that is why we are judged according to our hearts. The Law of the Resurrection of the Dead talks about this. We are judged by where our hearts desires are. If they are in the Lord, then we receive a Celestial Inheritance. So as we strive to be one with the Lord and His will, then we grow spiritually and have a greater capacity to resist sin and the temptations of the adversary. If we have the Law, then we must live the Law to the best of our ability, because that is what we will be held accountable for and thus judged by. We are held accountable for what we have, and thus we can fall under condemnation or be justified. For where we fall short, the Lord looks at our hearts. If our hearts are with his, then we are justified, and have no need to fear. Moses 6:60 60 For by the water ye keep the commandment; by the Spirit ye are justified, and by the blood ye are sanctified;
  12. Lusts of the flesh are synonymous with desire, passion, appetites, and other designations that align with carnality, or the natural man. Elder McConkie is referencing the foundation of apostasy lies in sin. President Woodruff, with Joseph Smith and others said that apostasy begins with criticism of Church Leaders. Which, by the way, is a sin. However, the process of apostasy is just the direction of the net choices we make in our lives and where they take us. Sin takes us away from the Church. There is no rationalization that will get you around that. Once we sin enough we will be desensitized to the Spirit and will reject the truth, because we cannot comprehend or understand it anymore. Criticism of Church Leaders is the fastest way out of the Church through apostasy. The other sins, whether they be of omission or commission, will, once they build up enough, drive one out of the Church. Willow, that is the full context though Elder McConkie takes this analysis from Jude 1:17-25. Specifically 18-19. For the record, principles are usually some form of generalization. a principle is being taught here.
  13. Haha, I have the same issue. Except it is with school. I stopped coming on for awhile because I knew I would get sucked on. Like yesterday, I went to school(last day of classes:)) then I came home and from about 1:00 PM to 1:00 AM I was on, except when I had dinner, went to scouts for my calling, and talked with my mom about some stuff going on in my life, and then family prayer and scriptures. The rest of my time was literally on here and I only got off, because it seemed like nobody else was on. This used to happen all the time. Now for the most part I come on when I just need a temporary distraction. To relieve stress, or to give myself some mental exercise. I think the biggest thing is discipline. Say I will not spend more than an hour on lds.net, or whatever. And then do what you say. The Lord will bless you for persevering through your work. I have the same feelings about school. I love it at times, but other times I just hate it. However I have had to buckle down the last couple weeks and I haven't studied the Gospel too much, but I know I have been blessed because that was what I was supposed to be doing. I think it says somewhere in D&C, There is a time and a Season for all things. That means there is a certain time to be doing certain things. For example, now is the time for me to work out my Salvation in this life, not in the next.
  14. Law of Witnesses is more of a command to the Church. Missionaries teach two by two. There are two witnesses. When one is baptized there are two witnesses. Law of witnesses also includes the witness of the Holy Ghost and the witness of Jesus Christ. Two comforters. We are commanded to have two witnesses. We have the witness of the Holy Spirit of Promise that seals us up unto Eternal Life, and the Second Comforter that comes also as a second witness to seal. We are to have witnesses in the affairs of the Church. When one is excommunicated, there are witnesses to the trial. My acts needed to be sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise or there is no efficacy or validity in the world to come D&C 132:7. That is one witness, which with enough righteous living, we may receive the gift of the Second Comforter, or the Second witness, if it is the Lord's will. Celestial Law is very important. We are commanded to abide a Celestial Law if we want a Celestial glory in the next. We have the choice on that one. But all these laws are our choice. We can choose to abide them or not, but we will receive a reward according to the Laws that we chose to live in this life.
  15. Did you go to my link and look at the Plan of Salvation. That is why there is a however. We have different beliefs of what heaven is.
  16. As to the temple I have not been, but if the Lord revealed to them to remove something, then they have full authority to do so. As President Woodruff said, "The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of the Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so He will any other man that attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and their duty."(61 semi-annual general conference) [Edit: source is the back of the Doctrine and Covenants after Official Declaration number 1]
  17. Brigham Young gave his opinion as times, which got him into trouble. When any man teaches opinion and private interpretations, they are not teaching the word of God. Most people don't understand that distinction. We can't change what the scriptures say or what the Lord says. It is what it is, and it stands on its own. People can help others to understand by expounding on it. You rarely hear opinions from leaders today, because they will get taken for the revealed word from the Lord, when it is really not the case.
  18. The words of Elder McConkie: Murderers are forgiven eventually but only in the sense that all sins are forgiven except the sin against the Holy Ghost; they are not forgiven in the sense that celestial salvation is made available to them.(Matt 12:31-32; Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.356-357) After they have paid the full penalty for their crime, they shall go on to the telestial inheritance. (Rev 22:15) This taken from the exercpt in "Mormon Doctrine," entitled Murderers. So you are right, the grace covers all. However, what we talk about is the Celestial Kingdom. That is where we live with our Heavenly Father again. All those references to faith and works, are the qualifications necessary to accept the full Atoning Sacrifice. Accepting the full Sacrifice equates with accepting the gift of Eternal Life, or Life with our Heavenly Father. You have to understand the plan of salvation and how it works, to understand what we are talking about in its proper context. Plan of Salvation This link is just the first part, just go down the left side of the page and that will at least give a basic understanding.
  19. I know the discussion has moved on, but there are two things that will happen in any conversation. It will be peaceful, or it will be contentious. When a person calls another out for something, that raises contention. It just happens. By saying that the person is being contentious, and then posing a question that may cut across the beliefs of another by saying they are not a Christian because they are contentious. That is offensive. It is like saying they are not a Christian. Who am I to say if a person is a Christian or not? That was the view and interpretation I see from it. Her intent may have been good. However, she needs to be aware of what she says herself. Look at it from both perspectives. A better way to have said it would have been something like: "You know, I get this feeling that we're getting contenious in our discussion. Let's together try to tone it down a little bit." Conversation is a two way thing. 9/10 when a person gets contentious the other will follow suit.(from what I notice). I mean no ill will. This was just the way I observed it.
  20. I would also add that His grace covers all sins except the unpardonable sin, which is a denial of the Holy Ghost for those who have a perfect knowledge. That is gonna be very, very few people. However we have to show that we accept that grace by doing some works. Yes we can be forgiven for murder but the repentance process is very, very pricey. I suppose you think that Cho will go straight to heaven without having to make any amends for his 32 killings down at Virginia Tech. However, in the case where people enter into the New and Everlasting Covenant, there is no forgiveness of sins for the murder. That is the Law that has been decreed for those who have gained that light and knowledge.
  21. Here is 2 Timothy 2:9-26 9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. 10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenæus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. 24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. Verse 12, If we deny Him, then He will deny us. Titus 2:8-15 7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. 9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; 10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. 15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee. 1 Timothy 4:10-16 10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. 11 These things command and teach. 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. James 2:13-26 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Why do I give these lengthy scriptures? They all denote some action of doing to believe. In order to believe in Christ, that we will save us. Then we will have to choose to do the things that we "believe." How can we be saved into the Kingdom of God, when our faith or belief in Christ is dead, because we have no accompanying works?
  22. The Savior can only forgive those who repent and accept Him. That is His Law. Paul hits it pretty hard in Hebrews 11. 1 NOW faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. 8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. 13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. 17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: 19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. 20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. 21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff. 22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. 28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. 29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. 31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. 32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: 33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: 36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. It is through their faith that they receive blessings, that they receive love, that they receive mercy and that they receive grace. Also what does it mean when scriptures like 2 Peter 2:9-21 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. I think it is pretty clear that there is punishment for unfaithful members of God's church.
  23. Hi, sorry, but your comment doesn't publish peace either. Just something to think about.
  24. Going along with Hemidakota, I suggest reading everything you can about the Law of Chastity. Read specific things, from prophets and scriptures regarding chastity. What happens is you fill your mind with the truth. And you know it is the truth. Do not look for interpretations from the Spirit, because the devil will be working also, and it will be hard to distinguish between the two. As your mind is filled with the truth. You gain strength to resist. You can forgive. You are opened up to more light and truth and become a stronger person. More resilient and more valiant in the gospel. You gain strength. Temptations have less power over you because there is no doubt over what is right. Have your husband, read as well. When both of you work together, then you grow together. Don't just leave him to suffer for his sins. Don't exact justice on the man. He made a mistake. You make mistakes.(just not with such severity.) Your marriage covenant(I'm assuming since I haven't been to the temple for anything other than baptisms) mentions that you would support him and that you would be faithful in all things to him. All things is a literal meaning. When it says ALL things, it means ALL things. The more types of readings that he does like this, the more remorse he will feel, if he is truly repentant. This will make for a quicker restitution, better resolve, and less temptation. He will be cut to the center, or to the heart, because he is guilty. That doesn't mean you should let him fall by the wayside. What did the Lord say, "I the Lord will forgive whom I will forgive, but of man I require that they forgive all men." (not sure of the reference) Anyways this includes your husband. This may be hard to see, but I feel like this will actually strengthen your marriage. It shows that you both can get through the hard times. Just think, if you can get through this, anything will feel almost like a breeze. The Lord loves YOU!
