  1. Where'd you get that new photo of Nichole Ritchie?
  2. Our neighbor in the young women's presiceny, was told by her oncologist, a bishop, that green tea might be very good for her recovery from a very rare form of bone cancer. I can't tell you one way or another how this will workout. My grandfather, had bladder cancer several times related to his smoking. (After he had quit smoking). His doctor put him on some obscure tea regimine that they use in India. He hasn't had a recurence in 15 years. That could be a coincidence. Personally tea is tea. Whether black, green, herbal, iced, etc. Plus green tea is a fairly effective laxative! (Must drive faster!) What does amaze me though is the claims that teas and now coffee are full of anti oxidants and so good for everyone. I'm not sure an adddiction is good for anyone.
  3. According to "Sugar Busters!" and other low glycemiiic approaches, brown rice is much healthier because it causes a much lower insulin reaction when consumed. The same argument can be made for sourdough and rye breads over white bread and most "whole grain" breads. Sourdough has a chemical that forms when eaten (Men's Health last year) that suppresses insulin reaction (thus being lower glycemic), and rye bread is also very low (for a bread product) on the glycemic index. Now if I could just find that box of Twinkies...
  4. I like tuna salad on soft white bread. My grandmother would tell us, "You shouldn't eat so much sugar, you'lll become a diabetic..." And we would laugh, and people would tell her it would be OK. Then along came HFCS, and I just recently read "Good Calories, Bad Calories", and I think sometime in the future when we meet again I'll owe her an apology.:)
  5. I can't get through the first Harry Potter book.
  6. I had not noticed this topic before! Meetings are what they are. Some Sundays I walk out of chrch feeling like a new guy, some Sundays I struggle through the 3 hour block. I'm human. On another note, most forums have "cliques". They are what they are. The internet provides the safety of anonymity, and promotes boorish behavior by some. It's easy to be brave when you can't get pushed out of your chair. We actually have lessons in public school dealing with internet bullying. It happens amongst adults. I wouldn't think that anyone on this site would stoop to knowitall, gang up, internet bullying behavior.
  7. I like Darth Vader, sharp dresser, talented with weapons, and a concerned parent. For me though, Bruce the Great White is the ultimate villian. Why? I saw the movie when I was 12 and still fear the ocean. Although I did pretty good in the Caribbean in June.
  8. Sometimes chemo works for some patients, and sometimes it doesn't. The Book of Mormon, in and of itseelf is a daunting task for many. I can't count the times, as a teen I'd get through 1 Nephi, start 2 Nephi and stop. We had the old powder blue copies in those days, I usuallly ended up looking at the incredible artwork. Each person has to have his or her own personal experience with the promise of Moroni. And it isn't a "one time" deal, each person, after receicing the witness needs to coninue to foster that promise.
  9. Fax Machines and Wonka Vision, those are miracles to me...
  10. I was called in tonight and told I was moving to te High Priest's Group. This makes sense, I'm on a statin, play duplicate bridge, and listen to Dean Martin. I guess now I need to purchase a Lincoln Town Car? I'm going to have my Father in Law do the ordaining. O43
  11. I have been gone for awhile, this is kind of a surprise topic. When we were younger my wife and I had dicussed this issue. Then one evening on Discovery Health (I believe) I watched a show that went through the process. A very attractive woman in her ealry 30's wasn't pleased with her upper body shape so she and her husband decied she would get an add on. (The husband acted like a kid in a candy shop going through the "choices" with the plastic surgeon.) By the end of the show I knew my wife wouldn't be going through that. The money, the actual physical pain of post surgery, etc. My sister in law just had a new front porch put on. I couldn't figure out how they could afford it. You can finance augmentations. Of the world's populationn probably 80% wake up every morninng wondering where the next plate of food is coming from, and "in the West" we finance implants? Oy Vey
  12. In regards to Del Parson's Savior painting, whether it is a master piece or not, I wouldn't know, from an artistic stand point. We have one in our house. I have actually seen copies of the painting in other locations, not associated with being LDS, but can't remember the place that most surprised me. As far as the "story" in regards to the inspiration, I paraphrase: Brother Parson's had the new painting on display at a fireside, or other church function, when a young girl walked up to him and stated, "That is the man who came to me the night my mom and dad were killed in the car wreck..." At that moment Brother Parsons knew he had an accurate rendition of the Savior. This was around 1985/1986. At the time the picture prints were being sold with the story along with it by various LDS vendors. And like many things in church, the story was passed from person to person. At that time while attending a "church school" in Idaho, one of my professors was listening to a couple of students relating the story to each other. With grace and dignity, he let us know he was a friend of Del Parsons, and let us know, as much as Brother Parsons wanted the story to be true, it wasn't accurate.
  13. When I get resurrected, I want the hair I have now, Robert Redford's teeth, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's physique when he was 32/33. I'm just not sure how that would work out?
  14. In the simplest terms, Thomas S. Monson is the leader of the Latter-day Saint faith. Benedict XVI is the leader of the Catholic faith. Personally I think both gentlemen are incredible individuals. As well as Moses and John Paul II.
  15. It snowed in San Francisco yesterday, is that a sgin of global cooling? No, it just snowed in San Francisco. Although I do not buy into the "Global Warming" hysteria, I do think we need to practice sound ecological habits. There is nothing wrong with recycling items, using hemp grocery sacks instead of paper/plastic, riding a bike if the distance and weather permit, keeping the oceans clean, saving coral reefs, saving Koho salmon, growing our own gardens, setting aside habitat for preservation: be it ocean or land, etc. What does irritate me is "big" government's need to legislate and tax us into a "greener" world. As stated before, and now added to, if "experts" want to improve our natural world, then they need to lead the way by example, not having their own peronal jet, limo, 10,000 sq ft home, etc.
  16. Camels were also imported by the United States military in the 1800's to fight the Indian Wars in the Southwest. Most were turned loose, and lived in the wild for sometime. They never did develop into a sustainable herd, and eventually died out.
  17. I've never had to, but when I was 13 I saw my grandpa shove a shot gun in the face of a man who was trying to break into the travel trailer we were in. The man said he was very sorry and left, face intact.
  18. I didn't read all the posts. I would get an attorney, get a restraining order, and put an end to it. If you write her a letter it just perpetuates the problem. Sometimes being nice, doesn't pay off, especially in this circumstance.
  19. I had a larger than life German Shepard for 14 years. Never needed a gun. Now he's gone, I own a Walther. But am still looking for a German Shepard for back up.
  20. If anyone is "pining" to have polygamy restored, they need to have their head examined. No offense ladies, life is complicated enough navigating with two addults in the house. I couldn't imagine adding more drama to the mix. :)
  21. First off, may I state that "a reading-in a hoped for idea" is certainly not accurate, nor correct. I made an observation. Although you are more than welcome to make accusations all you'd like, it makes no difference to me. It was never a question that Amulek DID have multiple wives, but did he have multiple wives. This should naturally induce connversation and the exchange of ideas. Since the Nephite culture was obliterated by the Lamanite culture, and their allies, we truly do only have a brief glimpse of what Nephite life might have been like. But, from what v. 10 states, it appears that Amulek does allude to his family, children, women and father. There is no hint at servants. And, on a side note, Sjodahl and Reynolds, I find, are quite excelllent, and no less authoritative than anyone else who presumes to be on thiis forum. O.
