  1. I think that making an effort to help those with mental illness a higher priority than it is would go a long way to supporting those who need support.

It is sad to hear that the only way a person can get help is if they can pay for the help, which help usually amounts to more money than the person makes per month, or if the person commits a crime. And then if a crime is committed there is no guarantee that the court will order they get mental health care, they may just say throw the person in jail and hope they reform by the time their sentence is over.

There need to be programs that can actually help someone in need of help before a crime is committed.

  2. You're welcome.

A couple days ago I was considering taking an alternate route to avoid almost all the beltway but when I heard on the radio yesterday that it wasn't really starting until 9AM. I decided to make a decision this morning and since I drive up I-95 N that gives me about 30 minutes to listen to what is going on around the belt way before getting on it. What I heard made me decide I would be fine on the belt way this morning.

  3. I drove to work this morning on the inner loop of the belt way where, from what I remember reading and hearing, these truckers are planning to drive. I didn't see any that I thought were part of this movement/demonstration. I was on the inner loop from 9AM to about 9:45AM. On the station I listen to for news and traffic reports(WTOP) I heard that small groups of trucks were on the beltway already and that the numbers are expected to grow throughout the day. On my way home today I will be on the outer loop but will be watching to see if I see anything on the inner loop on my way home.

  4. I don't know if the judge could have done more or not since I don't know a lot about the laws involved. But if you have a declaration that someone is legally dead in front of you and you also have verified that you have that person alive, standing in front of you, well it's pretty obvious the declaration that he is legally dead is wrong.

The judge doesn't need to seek out help for this man and the man didn't ask for the judge to seek help for him. The man asked that the same court that declared him legally dead reverse it's decision based on the fact that he happens to be alive. So it was the guy that was trying to correct the erroneous declaration (made possible through his own fault) that he was dead.

So the court that created the situation can't undo it? It seems logical that it could. And just where else would/could someone turn to get them selves declared legally alive after a court has declared them legally dead?

Just read the last post by anatess. The problem probably will have to be handled by the state legislators as it already shows people a way to get out of paying child support. I guess I am just too simple minded, but too me if the court can declare him legally dead, it should be able to declare him legally alive. I guess if there hadn't of been a time limit stipulated of 3 years then the judge could have.

  5. But the thing is he is alive and I would think (I guess erroneously) that a judge would be able to declare him alive and at the same time find a legal way to ensure the ex wife and children do not suffer financial difficulties because of it. If it means he has to pay back everything because he allowed everyone to believe he was dead then so be it. That would be part of the price of doing what he did and then showing up to ask that he be declared alive.

Just because he has done all these horrible things doesn't mean he can't and/or hasn't changed. I am not trying to sound like I am defending him but if he can't find a way to live even though he is legally dead then the situation needs to be corrected and in my minds eye it is not going to be as simple as showing up at social security and asking for a new social security number. Any document he shows them will point them to his old social security number and they would also have record of him being declared dead.

  6. I've been divorced for a little over 4 years now and have not felt left out in the wards I've been in. I live in Virginia and don't know enough to know if that makes a difference. I keep getting callings that have me working with the youth.

I wish there were a midsingles ward in my stake, but I have found the closest one and started going to their activities. I turned 46 a few weeks ago and was worried there would be no singles ward for me, but on the website for the midsingles ward near me it says the serve people of ages 31 to 55.

We recently had a lesson in elders quorum focused on marriage. They asked many how long they had been married. Had they asked me I would have said I was divorced. But they didn't and I am fine with that. I didn't say much during that lesson. But for lessons of other subjects I try to participate.

  7. Some of it depends on what is not there. I bought a house about a year ago. Major things missing that I had to buy that have not been mentioned yet were:

Shower curtains and rods to hang them on.

Curtain rods and curtains for all the windows.

Drill, drill bits, and level to put the curtain rods up.

  8. I don't think it is anything to worry about. I was a lot like that. I never dated until I was 21 or 22. And until I got interested I thought I would never get married as I seldom communicated with girls other than my sisters.

I would probably just tell the guy to not worry about it and go on a mission and things will work out sometime after he gets back from his mission.

  9. I don't think I have an ego and so can't talk much about that.

I was married for about 13 years and have been divorced now for about 4 years.

Doing acts of service or kindness shows love but it is not an adequate replacement for sex. It was baffling to me that the longer I was married the less sex I got. I thought there would be a growing together in all things including intimacy. A wife folding shirts, making dinner, and comforting me when I've had a bad day and caring for me when I am sick are all good things and I never rejected them nor dismissed them but they couldn't compensate for the frustrations I felt as sex between her and me became less and less. When we were first married she often initiated sex but as the years went on it was only me and often she refused. I noticed the difference and that difference affected other aspects of our relationship.

Hopefully some of this helps you.

  10. I like the sound of the genuine leather and will probably buy a triple and the Bible with genuine leather soon. I want the new edition even though our leaders say I don't have to buy them.

The scriptures I used during my mission may have gotten the most use than any of my scriptures since I was opening them and reading from them many many times every day. I don't think the cover on my triple broke until sometime after my mission.

  11. I have never had a problem with the binding on my normal sized scriptures.

I have a military version of the Book of Mormon (very small) that I think I got sometime between 1988 and 1991. A chunck of the pages on that one have come loose.

The scriptures (Spanish triple combination and Spanish Bible) I used during my mission (which was from 1991 to 1993) still have intact bindings but the cover of one has split where I can see the binding but hasn't come completely off. I have used these on and off since my mission.

A quad I got sometime before 2003 is still in good condition.

I read in the scriptures nightly and take them to church with me every Sunday. For the past few years I have used the above mentioned quad.

In my experience if you treat your scriptures good you won't have a problem with the binding. I like what it said about the genuine leather of the new English Edition and how to care for it that I found on the churches web site. Go to this link: 2013 Edition Scriptures and scroll to the bottom section labeled

  12. I was thinking about this more and wondering why there is no scripture telling us if the Holy Ghost has lived here in mortality already or when He will get a body. The only thing that came to my mind is that it must not be important to our salvation to know when he gets/got his body.

I took the statement by Joseph Smith to mean that the Holy Ghost has not yet had a mortal body. But I can see how it could be interpreted as He is waiting to receive his perfect body.

I agree that if He has not received a body yet then during the millenium could be a good time for him to get one, if his mission as just a spirit would be over. But will not Satan be loosed again for a short time after the millenium. If so, I would think the Holy Ghost still needs to be a spirit.

I thought about this more as to how the scriptures talk about the Holy Ghost and I think that there are enough references in the New Testament that talk about the Holy Ghost to be able to say the saints then new the importance and role of the Holy Ghost.

  13. I had never thought that the Holy Ghost could have completed his probationary state but would think that if he did at one time have a body, during that time he would not have been able to function as the Holy Ghost because that position seems to require someone without a body to perform it. I would think that the Holy Ghost will remain without a body until such time as he no longer needs to dwell within us as D&C 130:22 states or perform any other action that can only be done by a spirit. I wonder if we will still need him to dwell in us after judgment day. My thinking is that once every single person is assigned to a degree of glory then that may be the time He gets a body if He ever does.

One thing that comes to my mind is that wither mentioned or not by scripture from what I have understood, the Holy Ghost is instrumental in the conversion process of everyone that follows Jesus and also He is often involved when prayers are answered. And so I would say He has always had a prominent role even if such is not clear from scriptures.

Also I believe that many (if not all) of the advances made throughout time has been due to in part inspiration from the Holy Ghost.

I haven't put much thought into what did the Holy Ghost do during the pre-existance. And I am wondering if any of the scriptures do indicate his role. Could he have been known by a name other than the Holy Ghost in the pre-existance?

I found this link which quotes Joseph Smith saying "the Holy Ghost is yet a spiritual body and waiting to take to himself a body."

  14. It sounds to me like you are looking for peace and not finding it at your mom's. Divorce is a very difficult thing to live through, both for the parents and the children. I am divorced and tried to keep it from affecting my children as much as possible while establishing a better home environment for them. We all changed a lot over the years because of it and the closeness I felt I had with my children is not the same as it was.

I know it can be hard but find a way to support your mom without letting her guilt trips get to you. If you can do that better from your dad's place then moving may be best. I'm sure your mom still loves you and she too may want the closeness you two once had to return but because of the divorce and how it has affected her she may not know how to do that right now.

On the other hand you mention that you feel neglected and alone and have indicated that your dad is not home much. How will those feelings change if you move to your dad's house?

Have you thought about what you will tell your mom as to why you are moving? How will you moving affect your younger brother?

I am not trying to advise you one way or the other about moving to your dad's but just pointing out things I hope will help you think this through.

As for the fear and nervousness, the only thing that comes to mind is practice. So whatever you fear or are nervous about if you can practice then that could help.

As Eowyn said, start with one thing and then move on to the next. One technique I have used to remember to do things until I establish it as a habit is to put things where they will remind me. So if you were to start with praying you could put a stone in your shoe to remind you to pray in the morning because if you forget it is there then you will feel it when you put your shoe on and remember. Then place the stone (or marble) on your pillow where you are sure to notice it when you go to bed and when you find it there then place it in your shoe again.

Don't worry about how much more other people know than you do. We all started with knowing very little and learned from there and are all at different stages of learning. I was astounded at how much I had forgotten about the gospel when I stopped going to church for a few years. But when I returned I just started learning again and am still learning. As for calling many people receive callings that require them to learn. My understanding of callings is that they are intended to be learned while doing them and I would hope no one would fault you for what you don't know and simply accept that you are trying the best you can with what you know while learning what you don't know about that calling.

  15. Wow, so much to think about.

Yes we live in a wonderful time with so much being discovered at a rapid pace.

My view on it is that with everything we have learned and know about how the universe was created is that it has all been done by our heavenly father, at least for what is closest to the earth and the rest is either by him or others who have gained their exaltation and are ready to create worlds.

  16. Thanks for the link.

So the black hole is the object that is doing this. Correct me if my logic sounds flawed.

Basically we have a black hole at the center of our galaxy causing a massive warp in space all around it and so our sun orbits this black hole. At the same time our sun has enough mass to warp the space around it enough that the planets of our solar system orbit it and are not influenced by the massive black hole at the center else the planets would no longer be orbiting the sun and the same goes for the moon orbiting earth.

    What an incredible system!

  17. I've just thought of another question related to gravity.

According to Einstein's general theory of relativity objects with sufficient mass warp spacetime and objects in this warped spacetime orbit around it. That explains how the moon orbits the earth and the earth orbits the sun.

Also, I am reading that the sun/our solar system orbits the center of the milky way. Is there some object so massive in the center of the milky way that has warped spacetime so much that it affects our solar system that is so far from the center of the milky way? And if there is not then how do theories of gravity account for that?

  18. Yeah, I focused on small objects because it is easy to observe the gravity of a large object.

I have yet to get into the mathematics of gravity but as I understand it those formulas only accurately calculate gravity's effect without saying where the gravity is coming from.

So Traveler with your theory if gravity were not absorbed into another dimension then gravity would be much stronger than it is?
