JAG - you're right... but I guess I'm not that mature... so I still like "smack down".  :)

Also: not a smackdown, instruction. Elder Oaks addresses the only doctrinally meritorious argument raised by OW--the desire to minister more effectively through the priesthood--by explaining that they already have authority, via the priesthood, to minister in a manner ratified and magnified by the Lord.
Secularist arguments about equal access to authority--and whether exclusion from the pool of people who may wield that authority constitutes \"inequality\"--are magnificently ignored.

I happen to share a lot of LDS gospel related things and I'm so glad I do.  It initiated a conversation with someone who now is interested in the church.

Not to the missionary visit stage yet but we're getting there.  I feel like you just never know how what you might share might actually influence someone's life for the good.

Plus something I posted once actually inspired a former co-worker of mine to go back to church.  Now he and his 4 kids are active in church again.

Elder Holland fortifying the youth against those who call the Church \"patriarchal\" and \"bigoted\"; Sister Reeves reinforcing that, yes, pornography really is a big deal; Elder Anderson encouraging Church members to hold the line on gay marriage; President Eyring confirming that the Church leadership understands its problems even better than do those who \"sound the alarm\" . . .
This is shaping up to be a rough conference for the ark-steadying crowd.

I entirely agree with Skippy. I don\\\\\\\'t mind mentioning church stuff if it\\\\\\\'s necessary to relating an interesting life event (like when we accidentally tripped the smoke alarm at pack meeting last week and had to evacuate the building), but when it comes to actually sharing the Gospel I try to limit those kinds of Facebook postings to two or three per year, one of which is around Christmas time; and I try to select messages that are deeply meaningful and also of general application (centered on Christ and/or Christian living, as opposed to mere sappiness/glurge or stuff that focuses on Joseph Smith or the institutional Church).

I generally do not "like" or "Share" when I'm told to - such as "Like or Share if you love Jesus".  These amount to little more than an old-fashioned chain letter... without the stamp and paper cut.

I like kid moments that are shared, but I rarely comment.

I also share fun or intriguing stores I find... often commenting on how unlimited the stupidity of humanity can be.  :)

I also RARELY share LDS/Mormon related memes.  One reason for that, is that I'm not out to impress other members by "trumpeting my own horn".  The other reason, is that you don't need to 'parade your faith' at everyone who is in your friends list all the time.  When I share something, it usually contains an amount of "universal truth" in it that most people can understand and build relations with.  By keeping it rare, I hope to improve the receptivity of the message in and of itself... and not "spam your news feed" all the time.

When I feel I have something meaningful (or witty) to contribute, I will.  For example, I have a good friend of mine that posted about the "Ordain Women" group and letter response.  I posted there much of what I conveyed here in another thread.  Then got into a very civil discussion with someone who I assumed was a relative of my friend who had chosen to leave the church.  She actually complimented me and said this was the first civil religious discussion she'd ever been involved with.  I also communicated to my friend to make sure that he was okay with what was going on... especially since it was his family, and I was hoping to make a good impression of faithful members to her.

Some separated couples end up doing exactly that.  A separation is not a divorce, and dating someone else outside of your marriage covenant (whether civil &/or temple) is not appropriate.

I wouldn't be trying to put words in your bishop's mouth.  I would simply assume that he meant dating or any other relations outside of the marriage covenant are not appropriate.

How you choose to have sexual relations within your marriage... even while separated... is up to you, just like it always has.

Skippy made you sound all happy and, you know, "skippy". DK and the shield-like star makes you seem stern and scary. Funny how names and avatars can actually affect perception of people and posts.

As for me, I think "church" made me sound self-righteous. I'm not sure that "The Folk Prophet" does any better. (I'm also fairly certain that some would view me as self-righteous regardless of my moniker.) Of course neither of those names has anything to do with religion, but are entirely coincidental (church was a childhood nickname that came from the misspelling of Chuck, and Folk Prophet was the name of my college band). My purpose in changing (as I stated somewhere) was in the confusion I felt bound to happen whereas the church is mentioned constantly in these forums.

I can see it being problematic to have names changed from a certain point of view though. I mean, it took me a while to figure out that you were good-ol' skippy740. I honestly thought, "Hey, look. A Senior Moderator has gotten involved again because of the site change." Then I saw your signature.

If we can remove the \"black boxes\" on the side [forums, members, calendar], and let those just be drop-downs from the top blue forum menu... I think it should \"fill out\" to both blue ends.

    Roseslipper,
Patience is the key for such a radical change. I predict (based on prior experience) that it\'ll take about a week to work out all the \'bugs\' and get the forum running as simply as it was before.
One reason for the change was to simplify the administration of the forum. It was a mess with the two different software systems and trying to ensure their ongoing compatibility.
No idea what the stars mean. I don\'t have one... except the one I put in my avatar.
The warning points is the infraction system we have in place for moderating forum members. Those that happen to have these points, were infracted at one time or another. We don\'t count the ones over a year when making moderating decisions... but the software is showing ALL of them ever given.
Just keep reporting the bugs and annoyances in the threads that are talking about them. Even if you don\'t get a specific reply, these are things that are (probably) being added to a very long \"to-do\" list for Pam to work through.
