  1. The MoTab version of "What Child is This?" is a Christmas song I could (and do!) listen to year round: Fun fun, silly, goofy Christmas music my whole family enjoys the Pheneas and Ferb Holiday album. "Let It Snow" sung by Isabella, and Christmas Song sung by Vanessa are beautiful! :) And for silly: Good King Winceslas
  2. Some friends of mine came up with a spoof of that song: "Do they know it's Rhamadan?" (now *there's* a Muslim holiday that focuses on food!)
  3. No, it's from The Grinch. Cindy Lou Who sings it in the movie.
  4. Wear regular underwear under your garment bottoms. That will allow you to wear heavier protection (like thicker pads), while still wearing your garment bottoms.
  5. The Old Testament is definitely a favorite, just from the interest of the stories (the doctrine is amazing as well, but you just don't get these kinds of stories in the other Standard Works, wonderful as they are). The story of King David, and the days following the birth of his first child with Bathsheba... wow. So much emotion in just those few versus.
  6. It never came up when I was in young womens, and I'm not much younger than you. (31)
  7. I have a pair similar to the first, my husband has a pair similar to the second. I've borrowed my husband's from time to time, and they aren't any heavier than the pair I have. :)
  8. We finely chop the leftover turkey meat, combine it with cream cheese and diced green onions (no exact measurement, just enough cream cheese so you can form balls out of the mixture), wrap balls of that mixture in pillsbury cresent roll dough, roll in some corn meal, then bake according to the directions for the rolls. Serve with a cream of chicken "gravy". YUMMERS!
  9. Maybe offer to cook it, too? Or have another family member prepare one to bring? Or does she insist on being the one to prepare it, since she's the hostess? I'm wondering if she's just concerned about a larger turkey hogging the oven for too long, when she has other things that need to bake. If it's being cooked in someone else's oven, leaving hers free for the other things she wants to cook, it might make her more willing.
  10. Does it have to be either/or? ETA: We do something yummy and indulgent for Christmas Eve (like loads of pizza or nachoes, or something else kind of junky), then Christmas Day we'll have a small breakfast, munch on our Christmas goodies during the day, then have ham with some fixings for dinner. We only do a big family dinner if we're visiting family (and so someone else is cooking ).
  11. I was going to say DI as well. I'm so envious of all the DI's that are in Utah. Great prices, and usually can find great pieces as well. :)
  12. I think it should be an option available for persons who NEED it, such as persons with compromised immune systems, persons with physical ailments that make sitting in church difficult, mothers recovering from childbirth, those who live in extremely rural areas, etc. In other words, it should be an available accommodation, but not the rule.
  13. The context of his comment is about a non-discrimination bill. I don't know any church doctrine that says gay people shouldn't be allowed to hold jobs. And what he said about church memberships views of gay rights shifting is accurate, from what I've seen. Of course we know what the Church as an institution says about marriage, but it's either been silent or in favor of protections for gay persons so that they can have equal access to housing and other such necessities of life (meaning, their sexual orientation wouldn't block them from acquiring housing that they're otherwise completely qualified for).
  14. The same as they would consider for the regular general conference sessions, which also include 8 year olds, and younger? (perhaps not physically present, but surely they know they're listening, waiting to mark their bingo cards)
  15. It was. I think what the church is going for now is really a general meeting for all female members of the church, which would be any girl/woman of baptism age on up.
  16. I suppose that the membership would either raise a ruckus and tell him to get back on course, and/or ignore the "off the rails" stuff until his time as Prophet comes to it's natural end. (I am NOT proposing the membership would "deal with it" in any sort of violent way)
  17. So this is a phrase I've heard in church for many years, and the implication I'd always taken from it was that the Lord would "remove from office" any Prophet who tried to lead the church astray, usually by having them die, I guess. Anyway, a thought popped into my head in Church on Sunday, that perhaps it was also through the membership of the Church that a Prophet would not be able to lead the Church astray? What I mean is: if members of the church are reading their scriptures, participating in the Ordinances of the Gospel, really studying the Gospel and learning to recognize the whisperings of the Holy Spirit, developing a personal relationship with the Lord, then a Prophet wouldn't *be able* to lead the Church astray, because the membership would recognize it immediately. Am I off on this?
  18. First Presidency Announces New General Women’s Meeting - Church News and Events I guess my 9 year old daughter and I will be sharing a pew in the Stake Center come March. :)
  19. My stake in WA had an entire two-day symposium specifically for women looking to enter the workplace. They went over how to put together a resume, the do's and don't's of cover-letters, interviewing skills, etc. I felt very "improved" by the end of it.
  20. I strongly suspect her front door is going to look like custard by the time the evening is through, if she follows through with this.
  21. To be fair though, English is only "unofficially official" in much of the US as well. It's not recognized as the Official Language in any Federal law that I'm aware of, and only a few states have made it their official language.
  22. And yet, it's been happening almost since the world began. Even English isn't a "pure" language. When the Vikings invaded England the English changed and took on several of their words (and culture). When the Christians from mainland Europe came spreading the Gospel, English adopted words (and culture) from Latin and Greek. Language and culture have never been static. They're always changing and adapting. We just happen to be living through a period of history where now Spanish is starting to come in and make it's influence felt on our current language and culture. I don't find it arrogant or offensive. I find it as being the nature of humanity.
  23. I was in the audience when they did the Darth Sidious at Wells Fargo sketch. It was SO funny watching Jason playing that character and Matt trying so hard not to laugh at him!
