The progressive idea of big, all powerful, cradle to the grave government is anti to freedom and to continue to feed that monster is folly. They should beware because the demon they rouse will one day turn and rend them.

This is why progressives are so infuriating to most of us not in that camp: It's all about "feel[ing] good inside", and little (or even nothing) to do with the facts, historical outcomes and cost/benefit analyses.
Socialism has never worked. It does not matter who is in charge — it fails because it ignores basic human nature.
Socialism also relies on the lethal power of the state because, once in a "socialist paradise" ("utopia" is a Greek word meaning "no where"), the peopel try to escape, and socialist must force them to stay on the plantation.
Freedom is always preferable to slavery. That's why I am not a "Lefty".

NO! I was tempted to take an earlier message and change "the Democrat party is evil" to read "the Democrat party Republican party is evil".
I believe Joseph Smith was/is right: teach people correct principles and let them govern themselves. We have 'way too much government, and both parties are complicit in destroying our freedoms.

Is it truly compassionate to take some one else's property and give it to the poor or the needy? Compassion would dictate that you leave that other person alone, and give your own property to the needy one.
Welfare is not charity. Welfare is destructive, charity is uplifting.
Progressives are not compassionate, they're greedy; they take other people's money rather than give their own.

No, it does not follow that they are evil. That was the point of my entire response.

Elder James E. Faust was not a Democrat. None of the apostles are Democrats, or Republicans either, for that matter. They abandon all such party affiliations when they accept their callings.

Do you honestly believe that James E. Faust would have supported the modern Democratic Party's insistence on elective abortion as a sacred right (or rite) or their approval and celebration of homosexual "marriage"? In what meaningful sense can we point to James E. Faust as an example of a present-day "Democrat"?

There is no doubt that our political views are a reflection of our moral convictions, any more than there might be doubt that our premortal choices influenced our mortal condition. The problem lies in connecting those dots. All too often, the A→B connection we want to draw is simply wrong, as e.g. with those who wish to believe that Brother So-and-so has a lot of money because he was so righteous premortally.

The Democratic Party is evil. Those who serve it serve evil. Those who vote for it (at least on a national level) vote for evil. So it has been for probably a generation, at least. That is my firm opinion. But even if I'm right, it does not follow that those who support national Democrats are evil. There may be, and I'm sure there are, some very good people who, for whatever reason, support the Democratic Party. I'm sure there are even some who support [openly-Socialist-candidate-for-US-president-who-never-would-have-been-given-the-time-of-day-by-any-rational-American-even-a-generation-ago-but-is-widely-supported-today].

How is such a thing even possible? What are we to take from this situation? We may conclude that such people are ignorant, or that they are deceived, or that they have been foolish to have bought into the lies they have been fed. But we cannot reasonably conclude that they love evil.

My eldest son is getting married in February and just returned from his mission in March of last year. I will continue to pay for car insurance, cell phone, tuition and I give him about $600.00 per month while he is in school.

I do not want him to graduate with college debt and he also works. So, until he graduates and goes onto grad school I will support him and his wife all that I can and will ween him off mom and dad's financial support as time passes.

(Note: If either of my sons started doing poorly in school or exhibiting behaviors that were less than honorable, they would find it difficult to get financial support from me.)

I thought this was an interesting piece from the hypocratic oath:

I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves.

16 months post open heart surgery and I feel AMAZING! I had no idea that I wasn't feeling well.....go figure. Life is pretty much like nothing bad ever happened and I am back to the gym again and doing whatever I want.....maybe even better,

My LDL cholesterol is 60....weird and I had one 100% blocked artery and three more that were nearly 100% blocked. Anyways, I am going to post more about the whole experience from cardiac arrest to surgery and recovery. Maybe it will be useful to someone...

The irony is that I had been away from the forum for a year or so and posted "I'm back" the night before the heart attack.About 6-7 hours after posting "I'm back" I was in the ER flat lining. Should have stayed gone....

Greetings from the land of the living and the blessed! After spending some time reading and adding a few posts late Thurdsday evening and battling what I believed to be some severe heart burn, I finally went to bed about 11:30 central time for some shut eye. About 4:30 AM the heartburn returned with a vengeance and included profuse sweating and after self diagnosing and debating with my wife over the merits of seeing a doctor she took control and ordered me into her car and raced to the emergency room. The short version is I had a heart attack and passed away briefly after being admitted..had I not listeded to my wife I would no doubt be mingling with Spirits.

More of the story to come.....
