I disbelieve this. Men may perhaps be accused 96% of the time. It's even possible that 96% of those convicted are men. But I disbelieve any glib statistic claiming that 24 out of every 25 sexual assaults are perpetrated by males. If you can demonstrate this in any reasonably rigorous way, please do so.

I have about $300,000,000 in assets under management in my practice. The only formula I know of after being in  the business ( financial planner, stock broker, or whatever we call ourselves nowadays) for the past 26 years is very simple......time plus compounded interest and the ability to not freak out over short term market volatility will make you a successful investor.

That really is it in a nutshell. U.S. equities have averaged nearly 10% since 1925. So, $1000.00 invested in 1925 would be worth nearly $5,000,000 today. Just think of all the crazy world and economic events that have happened since then.....

Yeah that is 90 years, but even in the shorter stretches...say the last 25 years...still around 10%. The big losers were those who thought they were being safe and bought bonds (same time period 90 years, $1000 grew to about $350,000) or worse the dreaded CD buyers that swallow the FDIC safety tripe.

Just remember, volatility is temporary....just like turbulence when flying. The magic really is time and not freaking out. ( and not owning foolishness).

And of course why do we invest? Because taxes and inflation destroy purchasing power and that is all money is really....is purchasing power.

If we turn to the scriptures for answers......it would seem that there was no death before the fall and no procreation. The theory of evolution would seem to be at odds with scripture I would think, since it doesn't sound plausible that various forms of life would seek to evolve if their was not procreation or death.

What would be the need to evolve if their was not death?

    As Lehi said,

"And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end.
23 And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.

These scriptures would apply to all things....plant, animal, etc.

I don't think this is correct....at least pertaining to frogs. All things were created spiritually before they were created physically and all things are subject to the fall...frogs too and all things fell so they could be resurrected...frogs, plants, etc. (Personally I think dinosaurs and pre-adamites as well)

Sarah...I would suggest that you do whatever you like and let the Lord be your judge, he is after all going to be anyways. Many of us will have much more to worry about than whether we chose to not wear garments on a particularly hot and humid day or.....

Once upon a time, I actually mowed the yard...(gulp) shirtless. Oh...and ran shirtless and went to the gym in a tank top. Before the flaming begins, I do wear my G's 99.9% of the time and of course we all should, but,in the end that really is between you and the Lord.

The "no" answers are wrong. A Melchizedek Priesthood holder who has abandoned his temple covenants through adultery is most certainly subject to excommunication. Whether that actually happens or not is at the discretion of the stake president, and it may seem an unlikely outcome. But possible? Oh, yes.

I think with all the responses here you will see most of what you do is determined by your Stake Presidency. One thing about being in the stake you get to meet other members and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Here is what we do in our stake as High Councilors .... We are teachers. We go into our assigned Ward and work closely with the Elders Q President and High Priest Group leader. We provide on going training with them and encourage them to hold Priesthood Interviews with the members of their Quorum. We are asked to speak and often times given a topic. During the months we have 5 Sunday's we teach a combined lesson with the Pristhood and Relief Society. That topic is also assigned. You will be given an area of responsibility on the high council. I am over Public Affairs and I am a Auditor. I audit the financial records of 3 units two times a year. We have two High Council meetings a month and will attend Stake Council each quarter. You will also be part of a Stake Discplinary Councils.

I agree with the sentiment, but not the tactics suggested.  Gay rights activists spent forty years carefully developing their case while we on the right spent most of that time saying "This is nonsense, it shouldn't even be on the table, and we're not discussing it."  Then we lost--and we lost fast, and we lost big--because when the crucial moment came, we were largely left sputtering "that's just the way things are!" without being able to articulate why things are the way they are.

Nothing is sacred in modern American society.  We need to re-think every single one of our modern values and practices, and get to work making a case for the existence of every element of the status quo that we think is worth preserving.  That includes fundamental and formerly unquestionable "American" notions like life, liberty, property ownership, worship, free assembly and association, meaningful participation in the government process, and--I believe--even, ultimately the right of parents to raise their own biological offspring and perhaps even the right to be sexually autonomous (at least, insofar as one uses one's sexual autonomy to remain chaste).

Because there are, always have been, and always will be highly intelligent forces seeking to undermine all of those foundational values.

I just did a google of "religious freedom" and found that many secular pundits and groups frame our First Freedom as bigotry. They say that the sexual mores common to traditional practices of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam--indeed most religions--is hatred and bigotry--incompatible with enlightened, inclusive America. I love this quote: America did not create religious freedom. Religious freedom created America. Any effort to weaken or jettison the free exercise of religion should be deemed politically incorrect, and unworthy of response. An attack on the First Amendment is unAmerican.

I think Brigham Young was the mightiest prophet of our dispensation, with the possible exception of Joseph Smith. I do not know that there is anyone in Church history, or any prophet in scripture save Jesus himself, whom I admire more.

I think our membership is weak. It seems doctrine is rarely taught and much of what I see leaves a lot of grey area for the church membership as a whole. That said, I don't question the brethren because I am sure there is a reason that they are addressing these type of issues in this manner.

Milk before meat and love before repentance would seem the direction the brethren are directing us.

I am not a hunter and candidly feel much more sympathy for the cute little deer than the big cat. Cecil likely brutally killed anything that was weaker and smaller that came in his path and ripped it to shreds and ate it. Cecil met someone smarter and more powerful than Cecil. Such is the code that animal lived by....

It may have been illegal to kill Cecil, but as I understand it it is not illegal to hunt big game in Zimbabwe and it is not illegal to kill lions.

What really is stunning, is what issues people want to get all disturbed by versus the ones that are truly horrific that they mostly ignore or somehow justify. The fact that people want to see this dentist extradited to Zimbabwe and have his life destroyed and perhaps his families for killing a lion is pretty twisted.

HotAir - this article seems to analyze the incriminating conversation well. (thanks for the reference PC)

One of the beasts in the water is you have to decide what it means to be human, and/or as well as what it means to be a person. I cannot think of any definition which you could apply to all people outside that cannot be applied to those who aren't born yet.
