  1. PC, something that I've never understood. I've heard people say that they won't pray about certain things because our feelings can lead us astray. But these same people will say they were called by God to do something (become a pastor, testify to someone, etc.). How does one know they are called if not through a prayer and their feelings regarding that prayer?
  2. A cow-orker's husband passed away about a year ago. He wanted his body donated for science. Indiana University has a hospital in Indianapolis where they receive bodies for science, use them as needed for one year, then cremate them and provide the ashes to the family. She plans on doing the same when she passes. I thought that was a great way to receive necessary cadavers while still allowing the family an economic way of disposing of the body.
  3. I remember when Indiana didn't observe DST. I miss those days.
  4. My all time favorite sandwich is a slice of bread (I use a nice, crusty one from Panera), a slice of good feta or goat cheese and I like to sprinkle some summer savory on top. Toast it in the oven just until the cheese starts to turn brown. Put a slice of fresh tomato on top. I sometimes will put homemade garlic butter on the bread before I place the cheese on it. Oh my word this is the best during the summer with home grown tomatoes. Wow, my mouth is watering thinking of it.
  5. I'm sad to hear that LP. I've had roommates who took classes that had cadavers and they related the utter respect the students and professors exhibited. I used to watch a reality show that was about a funeral home and the respect they showed the dead was very impressive.
  6. My husband and I love avocado. We like it on toast with a little salt/pepper and a dash of lime juice. Yummy!
  7. Woeber's hot and spicy mustard. We use this on sandwiches, hot dogs or just dip pretzels in it. Soooo good!
  8. I do agree with you that reading an actual account of it would be better. As much as we would like to think that 1st hand, 2nd hand, or 33rd hand accounts would be truthful, human nature and errors happen. So, while this was the account of a woman who knew and was close to Eliza, the account is not from Eliza nor was it made during her time. It was the recollection of a granddaughter of Bathsheba--not exactly something to bank on.
  9. Why do you doubt it could have happened to Eliza? Perhaps, I should have said that I don't know for certain that it happened to her. But I honestly wouldn't be shocked or overly surprised if it did. We know that those times were extremely difficult for everyone and that heinous acts happened.
  10. I'm with you, TFP. I thought the same thing that I'd like to see the source material for this. I don't doubt that it happened to her or others. We knew that the women (and likely children) were raped and murdered.
  11. I've been to the temple in Mexico City and to the temple In Bogota Colombia. In both, the endowment was played in Spanish and I had to use a headset to listen to it in English. These experiences made me think that that all temples have similar formats.
  12. Wait, Parley watched Eliza get gang raped? And that's in his autobiography and we are just now hearing about this incident with Eliza? I'm confused.
  13. I don't know the answer to your question, Pam. I have had 3 cars and I've paid all 3 off early. With the last car, I went to the bank to pay the remainder of the car loan and while I had the money in the checking account, I thought I would go ahead and use my credit card (to get the rewards points) to pay off the loan at the bank and then once home, I would pay the credit card balance immediately. Thankfully, the bank teller knew that if I used my credit card, it wouldn't be a "credit" but considered as "cash"--which has a fee and higher interest rate that applies immediately upon using the "cash" option. She saved me a lot of money and a lot of anger had I used my credit card.
  14. As someone who has this situation in real life, I can tell you that my testimony took a hit when seeing the reality of this in my life. It was very, VERY difficult to imagine eternal life without the one I adore by my side. The church focuses so much on family and eternal relationships (which it should) that sometimes we overlook the realities. But as you said, that's what faith is all about. I have to trust the Lord that He actually does know best. If my husband is able to be my eternal companion, then I will be ecstatic. If he isn't and I'm enjoying eternal life, then I'll be ecstatic (because we believe we will actually be happy living in CK). That takes a truckload of faith when you see reality each day. But, faith is like that isn't it? Because I can do everything great, but still doesn't mean squat without the Atonement, which is something we also take on faith. Gosh, life is hard but I'm banking on God being who He says He is. He can help us to strengthen faith in the face of the reality of our daily struggles and give us glimpses of what is in store for His children. Just gotta choose it, walk by faith, and just endure well.
  15. You might see it if you put on a pink tutu, twirl around 2 times, click your heels three times and say, "I'm a pretty little bunny" in your best Shirley Temple voice. But, you have to record that and put the video on FB after you friend all of us.
  16. I do this. It's getting more and more difficult to find clothing that covers the garments completely (unless I want to dress like my grandma and I'm old already). So, I have no problem throwing on a sweater, jacket, something to cover up the sleeves.
  17. I've read Suze Orman and Dave Ramsey among others. What I found that worked for me was to take the advice that I found helpful and apply my own plan for debt reduction/elimination and savings. One of the best pieces of advice (and I think it comes from Dave) is while you are reducing debt, do not ignore savings. Even if you save very little, save something. He compared it to a business. A company has budgets/plans for expenses and marketing but also has budget/plan for saving costs or making money. It made complete sense to me that while I may think putting that extra $10 a paycheck towards debt, it's better to save that and use it in an emergency situation to avoid future debt.
  18. I just don't understand the thought that anyone and everyone who is in debt is a sinner on that fact alone. Being in debt isn't a sin. How is it sinful in and of itself? Obviously, if it's our greed, then the greed is the sin. I won't buy a beater. I don't mind buying used, but a beater car means (to me) that I can expect car troubles and I refuse to deal with it breaking down and then having to get it towed, finding a trusted mechanic, etc. Again, I don't mind it being used but if I know that it's a true beater, I'm not gonna do it. I'll let ya'll car people have at 'em. BTW, I'm thankful that if I need emergency (true emergency, not "I want this big ol' TV now") funds and I run out of the actual cash on hand that I have credit cards to help. While I hate incurring debt, I'm grateful that I don't have to worry about starving or going without medical treatment because I can't afford it now.
  19. And as a side note, I was always taught to use "a" when the next word begins with a consonant. I use "an" when the next word begins with a vowel. Since LDS begins with a consonant, I use "a" instead of "an" when I use the article.
  20. Yes, I know they are both adjectives. Perhaps I wasn't clear. When I use "LDS" as the ONLY adjective, I do not use an article with it. When I use "LDS" directly in front of a noun, then I use the article "a." Using another adjective as an example. She is pretty. (notice no article). She is a pretty girl. (notice the article "a"). Same thing: She is LDS. She is a LDS girl.
  21. I usually say "She's LDS" but, "that's a LDS show". So, maybe my distinction is when I'm using LDS as the complete adjective I leave off the indefinite article. When it is part of the adjective prior to a noun, then I use the indefinite article "a" (since "L" is a consonant, I use "a" instead of "an").
  22. I get that message too. I only reset my password the one time, so I just ignore the message to reset it again. I've not had a problem logging in. I've noticed that my userid seems to "time out" after a time. During the day, I keep my window browser up on just the google screen (I use Chrome). I then click on a bookmark to visit this site. When I get to the site, I am not recognized. I click on the upper right corner where it says to "existing user/sign in." When I click on it, it immediately recognizes me and shows my username and avatar. I never sign out. However, I've noticed that overnight when I haven't been on the site for an extended time, when I click on "existing user/sign in," it takes me to the actual sign in page where I must put in my userid and password.
  23. Oh, gosh, Eowyn. I'm so sorry. How awful for the whole family. My experiences have taught me to look to myself and strengthen what I thought was already strong.
