Maybe I'm too much a rationalist/positivist, but I disbelieve in "magic". However, I do believe Clarke's dictum that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. I extend the idea of "technology" to cover the working of divine beings and powers, and in general the realm of knowledge not open to us. So maybe that's a distinction without a difference.
In answer to the OP, I think John the Baptist was very clearly talking about the doing of divine ordinances and such. These things cannot be done without explicit divine authorization. I don't think it has anything to do with supposed "miracles", including the deceptions practiced in Pharaoh's court.

I'm the same way. If the towels aren't folded a certain way, or the dishwasher loaded the right way, I'm compelled to make my wife do it again so they're right.

I think the naming of "generations" is absurd. Another way to dumb down our society and apply stupid, often meaningless, labels to vast swaths of people.
I also think the evils of any given "generation" are a direct reflection on the failures of their parents. So if we want to name "Generation Snowflake", that's fine, but let's make sure we recognize the three fingers pointing back at ourselves.

Excellent, wise choice. I can tell you that the feeling you had doing baptisms is the feeling you can have doing washings and anointings, endowments, and sealings. Were you to read about or watch these things in unauthorized ways, such as online, you would experience none of that. Outside the temple context, a simple recitation of what goes on in the temple would leave you completely nonplussed. There would be no Spirit there to guide and teach you what these symbols mean.

My friend, temple symbolism is just that: Symbolic. If I write the letters G - o - d, I have a symbolic word: God. That word is not itself God, it just represents him. It's a convenient handle we attach to the idea of God so that we can more easily consider him.
Temples are full of symbols. The symbols represent real, solid underlying truth, but they themselves are just symbols. You mention the "handshakes". We don't speak of those outside the temples, because they are sacred tokens. But again, they are tokens. Just like paper money has no intrinsic value, but tokenizes or represents economic value, so those temple tokens represent or tokenize gifts to be given to us, now or later. We are given simple, understandable things to help us learn about far more important things that may not be so easily grasped (no pun intended).
Welcome. I hope you continue your study of "Mormonism", and if you decide to unite with us, we will be very happy for you. I would suggest that you do not base your ideas of Mormonism on any Youtube videos or other sources hostile to the Latter-day Saints. Those who hate a thing (including the Church) are not likely to give you an unbiased, reasonable viewpoint of that thing.

OK so just my take on it.. I'm a new convert and I can't go to the temple properly yet.  I can only go and do baptisms which I have really enjoyed.     I know about the videos you speak of but I haven't seen them.   The reason I haven't is that the first time I went to the temple I was abit skeptical,  I wanted to go see what the fuss was about.  it was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life, I cried like a baby,  I got to stand as proxy for my mum and it was brilliant,  i Could just feel the spirit.
I would love to know what goes on in the endowment session because I'm a very proactive person who doesn't like not knowing things, but I won't watch because I know without being there and the spirit being present it is meaningless.
Also the guy who does these videos mocks our beliefs and deliberately wants to show us in a bad light so he is doing it from that angle.

When someone from the other side says something offensive, label him or her as racist/sexist/homophobic/etc. Do your best to impute that feeling generally, not just to the specific case: "That's just how conservatives (or Republicans) are." When someone from your side says something offensive, ignore it. Studiously. Do not respond. If everyone (meaning all liberals, meaning the news media) refuses to mention it, it will go away. If you are forced to defend the offensive thing someone on the Left said, try to reframe it as an understandable instance of frustration with the patriarchy or some such. If worse comes to worst, go to the reliable standby: "Yes, looks like there's hate on both sides." The point is, under no circumstances should you ever unilaterally admit to being wrong.

Your guy won. I did not vote for him, but I must admit I had a Schadenfreude-inspired smile on my face when I went online Tuesday evening last week to check out the results. If he abandons his absurdly offensive language and turns out to govern well, I will morph into an enthusiastic (well, at least dedicated) supporter.
