  1. That is exactly why I bought a pistol. Be smart about how you store your firearms. There are all kinds of biometric safes that are designed to store a loaded firearm for self defense and only to open with a fingerprint. They are reasonably priced and reliable. It is my responsibility as the 'man' of the house to provide for my family. That not only means to provide substanance and shelter but protection. Remember the police have absolutely no obligation to protect you in case of an emergency (you can google it and read the supreme court ruling in Warren v. District of Columbia, not for the faint of heart). On a lighter note, I got my wife started by showing her my 1891/30 while field stripping it. Took her to the range a few times (to show her), and after a while she shot my Cz82 chambered in 9x18 makarov. She loved it and now wants a lever gun of all things. Just take it slow, don't push her and for goodness sake don't start her out with a large caliber.
  2. The first LDS Sunday I ever had was when I was a Navy recruit at Great Lakes and this was the subject of discussion that day. It was to remind us of the stuff Sailors (and Marines too) we are made of. Hel. 5: 12 12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the arock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your bfoundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.
  3. I've been having issues at work (people not following military procedures) and as a result I've been working straight 12 hour days 4 days a week with no lunch breaks. I tend not to complain about it because I am state side and not getting shot at (big plus) and I also get a 3 day weekend. My wife dosn't like this because my supervisor and my lower ranking coworker don't even begin to pull thier weight (my low ranking coworker also thinks he runs the shop) and encourage me to comprimise my ethic by cutting corners, taking long lunches and leaving early. I am having a real hard time with this because if I go along with it I'll have lots more family time, but things will not be done right. On the other hand if I do what I think is right my family looses out on time with me (right now my wife is fairly mad at me because this is my shore duty and I just completed 4 years of sea time). Thanks for your time yall.
  4. I got one of those too. Sadly enough I get enough spam (my gmail is about 3k spam messages now) and random bots for messengers that I finally quit using yahoo, msm, and especially icq.
  5. 9 years ago my wife was in your shoes, but her b/f was a Navy Recruit headed off to basic training and she was headed to a small college in centeral utah. She wasn't as strong as she should have been and I wasn't a member then either, I got what I wanted and she got pregnant. I had to save up to fly her to my school in Pensacola, Fl and we married in the courthouse without our parents blessings. I know things turned out ok in my case (8 years married and 4 kids) but I know she has thoughts of what could have been. Please take time and really think about the big picture and whats in the future and remember that there are somethings you can't ever take back.
  6. I am at the AIMD level now called FRC (fleet readiness center). And thanks yall, sometimes I second guess myself too much and should just stick with my first reaction.
  7. The past 2 months in my new shop (Navy AT) have been kinda rough on me. I am an Intermediate level guy (the middle tier of repair capability in the Navy) working in a hanger with the squadrons (the lowest tier of repair capability) naturally ther is some animosity between us and a lot of ribbing that goes on, but when it comes down to it we usually get along well. Now here is my problem: Parking is very tight and I have 4 reserved spaces that my shop completely fills, the squadron guys know this but still park there anyway and blow me off every time I tell them to move. Today this guy thinks that my sidewalk is now fair game to park in too! I did what comes natural to me and try to find him and get him to move his motorcycle, but I couldn't find him. Soooooo I called the MA's (base police) and see if they can rectify the situation, well they did, and in the process of doing so ticketed about 6 other bikes parked in a fire lane, oops! Would yall have called the police or just have let it slide? I didn't because of the crappy treatment I've been getting.
  8. I do too, it seems alot of the younger guys that I work with (and some of the older ones too) don't do either enough, and it also reminds me to balance my family and work because I am a workaholic to the core.
  9. Hail! I've been looking for a good forum to start posting in that would help me out in more than one facet of my life and stumbled across this site. Seems to be a few active duty guys on here (I am active duty Navy) so I might be able to pick thier brains and get some sound advice! Looking forward to contributing! r/ HskrVern ora et labora
