  1. The woman's movement was never a religious movement, in my mind. Women were trampled in earlier western society. So I belive it has made things better for them. Nothing has changed. You need to remember is women have earned money for the family as they have done for 1000s of years, but because the farm doesn't provide our income and it has to be from an exterior source the TV version of stay-at-home-mom seems to have left. This is not the women's movement but the structure of society. If you are referring to Sonja Johnson thinking, this is a matter well beyond the scope of this thread.
  2. There are proxy inititory services. All work for every person who has died without the blessing of the temple services MUST get them. We are their helpers. The one comment I have to make is you can (distance providing) go back to the temple the next day. In fact when I was in Oakland, CA I would go to the temple every day after work when I was single and just do initory work or sealings because I didn't have the 2 hours for the full endowment. LOL one time in the sealing by proxy the sealer forgot where he was and started to seal me to the female proxy, who I must say was paying attention and refused to be sealed to me, bummer! She was cute and I wasn't married. I was attacked recently on the issue of the garments saying where is it written we must have special clothes (all over the scriptures, but I wasn't about to full her flame) and I simply replied it is a dress code we adhere to for modesty on a 'want-to' basis. It is not forced. I recall swearing I was going to remove the "Gs" as soon as I left the temple and I have never removed them 25 years later. The Endowment ceremony taught me the importance of them. When you get to the MTC though notice all the young Elders tugging at their knees, they do take a bit to get used to.
  3. Mormons are constantly apologizing for believing what they ->know<-. Few of us have taken time to read LeGrand Richard's "A Catholic Utterance" in Marvelous Work and a Wonder. It is only one page at the start of the book and so few are touched by it's brilliance. I get frustrated when people from other religions tell us this in an inappropriate structure and naming convention. Christ was on the Earth and with the help of the twelve preached the true and proper gospel from at least 30-110AD. 110AD was when John was lifted from the Island of Patmos. The world at that time didn’t have the aid of the printing press, TV, or Internet so by 46AD it is common knowledge there was a massive division in what was the (Catholic) Church causing false doctrines to be preached, which have really never settled to this day. In the year 325AD a number of bishops met at the Council of Nicea and their job was simple and everyone knew the problem. The church had broken into so many forms these poor bishops had to sit down and read the scriptures and from them determine what was the true and accurate gospel. The problem was without revelation from God they never could get it right, because all they could do was make up the doctrine as they went along. It is from this meeting we get many strange ideas still taught in many Christian churches today. We, as Mormons don’t have this problem we know by revelation that Joseph Smith clearly and distinctly saw two personages who told him exactly how the church needed to be run and rebuilt to its former glory. Many will say that 1 man saying he saw God or an angel is not uncommon and Joseph Smith was insane, but are often unaware that 12 others heard the voice and held the plates, making 13 witnesses in all.
