  1. I think that's the ideal way to see this forum, but arguing still occurs. M.
  2. Protestants also believe in original sin and baptism is not necessary in many protestant faiths. M.
  3. That is not true. Original sin is the sin that was inherited through Adam and Eve and it gives us the tendency to sin. Actual sin that humankind commits is the sin that is accountable. M.

  5. I'm sure you non-watchers don't care but the Kansas City Chiefs won. 😊 M.
  6. Answering a question with a question, how original. You spent all that effort to create a thread on a subject you think is silly. I can only guess that CNN frustrates you so much, that they've mesmerized you into wasting your time. M.
  7. My granddaughter is a smidge over 2 years old and she really likes monster movies. She loves Monsters, Inc. and The Nightmare Before Christmas (she calls it "This is Halloween" because of the song). Lately when she comes over she's been asking for monster movies to watch so we watched Coraline together. I don't think it was quite the monster movie she was looking for but I really liked it. Does anyone have any suggestions for animated and non-animated monster movies to try? M.
  8. If this is so silly, then what made you take the time to create a thread about it? M.
  9. That is a very black and white way of looking at it. @Traveler, you like to ski and cycle; those activities are a benefit to you both physically and mentally and I'm guessing you do both because you enjoy them. And I believe that doesn't make you selfish for enjoying them. Those activities benefit you first and foremost and there is nothing wrong or selfish about that. I agree totally. M.
  10. Most people know right from wrong, good from bad because they are human beings, they have a moral compass. M.
  11. I sometimes wonder the same thing. Is the ulterior motive for doing something spiritual or good just for a blessing/reward? Why can't something good and lovingly be done just because it's the right thing to do, and in @dahlia's case because she cares about the person? Everyone has their motives but to only focus on how one can be rewarded for doing a good thing seems a little selfish and a little less good. As for your new found money - it was there before you started your fast, so I'll chalk it up to absent-mindedness. 😊 M.
  12. I definitely understand what a blessing can be interpreted as; usually something good and beneficial. I just found @anatess2 analogy to not make sense because when it's raining those who have umbrellas or who have shelter are the ones being benefitted while those getting soaked are not very happy. I'm just saying a different scenario could be used for a rain blessing. M.
  13. This is a strange analogy because typically people don't want to get wet when it rains. There is really no benefit in being drenched and cold. Maybe a better analogy with rain as a blessing would be that those who fast are like those that plant a garden and the rain is good for the garden and blesses those who planted it. Those who are not able to plant a garden, do not receive the same blessings from the rain. But maybe, those who are not able to plant can do something else instead, like prepare the food from the garden and everyone involved with that garden can enjoy its bounty. 😉 M.
  14. I know this is your opinion but, the 2nd greatest commandment is to love your neighbour as yourself. On a plane, you are instructed to put the oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others. As a parent, if you want to be there for your children you must take care of yourself. There are so many things in life where being kind to yourself makes it easier to be kind to others. M.

  16. For me, I have to wonder why this young man can't just communicate to your daughter in a kind way that he is no longer interested in dating, friendship, going out, etc. What's with "ghosting" someone? To me that's just inconsiderate and rude. And because he handled the ending of their relationship in this way, I don't think he deserves your daughter. M.
  17. From what I have read, pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder which can be treated. Homosexuality is not a psychiatric disorder, just like heterosexuality is not a psychiatric disorder. M.
  18. In other words, you're not going to give a straight answer, which means I understand you correctly. M.
  19. Are you trying to say here that the repulsion you feel for homosexuality is exactly the same as how you feel about pedophilia? That for you, two consenting same-sex adults having sex in the privacy of their own home, is the same as an adult, either gay or straight, molesting a child? M.
  20. Maybe men are more interested in trade schools over universities. They are less expensive. https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2019/03/choosing-trade-school-over-college/584275/ M.
  21. Maybe Christian women are more interested in attending a Christian University than Christian men. M.

  24. Learn to Recognize the Promptings of the Spirit The Spirit is always available to guide and direct you. However, the Spirit speaks quietly, through your feelings as well as your mind. One great challenge for you and those you work with is to recognize the quiet, subtle promptings of the Holy Ghost. President Boyd K. Packer taught: “The voice of the Spirit is described in the scripture as being neither ‘loud’ nor ‘harsh.’ It is ‘not a voice of thunder, neither … voice of a great tumultuous noise.’ But rather, ‘a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper,’ and it can ‘pierce even to the very soul’ and ‘cause [the heart] to burn.’ (3 Ne. 11:3; Hel. 5:30; Doctrine and Covenants 85:6–7.) Remember, Elijah found the voice of the Lord was not in the wind, nor in the earthquake, nor in the fire, but was a ‘still small voice.’ (1 Kgs. 19:12.) “The Spirit does not get our attention by shouting or shaking us with a heavy hand. Rather it whispers. It caresses so gently that if we are preoccupied we may not feel it at all. … “Occasionally it will press just firmly enough for us to pay heed. But most of the time, if we do not heed the gentle feeling, the Spirit will withdraw and wait until we come seeking and listening and say in our manner and expression, like Samuel of ancient times, ‘Speak [Lord], for thy servant heareth.’ (1 Sam. 3:10.)” (“The Candle of the Lord,” Ensign, Jan. 1983, 53). Many voices in the world compete for your attention, and they can easily drown out spiritual impressions if you are not careful. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/preach-my-gospel-a-guide-to-missionary-service/how-do-i-recognize-and-understand-the-spirit?lang=eng @Mores did not describe his feelings of the spirit as a voice, but this article of recognizing the spirit's voice doesn't seem to match how @Mores felt the spirit. He felt it leave violently but this description tells of the gentleness of the spirit. I'm just wondering if this feeling @Mores felt was not the spirit but his own feelings of the person disrupting the classroom. How can you tell if what you are feeling is actually the spirit or your own feelings? M.
