  1. I want this too, and I'd be willing to pay extra for an attachment that also folds and puts clean laundry away.
  2. Thanks for that...it's all I'm going to hear now. Lol! But on the vein of interchangeable tunes, this was something I learned about either on my mission or shortly before, and I enjoy doing it from time to time. A companion (the same one I mentioned earlier in this thread, in fact) and I used to really enjoy singing Joseph Smith's Prayer to the tune of In Humility Our Savior, since they've got the same meter. I also found that it makes you actually listen to the words more closely.
  3. I don't believe they get a stipend "for their work." They get a stipend for their living expenses, as they're unable to work, due to their time commitments in their callings. Heavenly Father has provided a way for them to do His work...this is it.
  4. President Eyring actually addressed this topic in the Sunday morning session, immediately following the choir's singing of "Praise to the Man." He talked about "hero worship" and what it actually means. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/watch/2014/10?lang=eng&vid=3821978328001&cid=4 (Listen to the whole thing, but around 11:26 is when this specific topic starts.) For me, a mission companion of mine gave the best answer I've ever heard as to why we talk about Joseph Smith so much (instead of Jesus, as many -- particularly outside the Church -- view it). She said, "it's because of Joseph Smith that I know who Jesus Christ is." I've never forgotten that, and I never will.
  5. Definitely get there earlier in the day. If you want to be able to actually see the actors, and get anything out of the show (from an entertainment perspective), you need to ensure you are close enough to make it worth it.
  6. I have a hard time making a bucket list. There are a lot of things that I'd really *like* to put on it, but I know they aren't necessarily realistic, and I don't want it to end up being an untouched disappointment. But the realistic things don't necessarily feel worthy of a place on the almighty bucket list. I did, however, check off one thing a few years ago, when I finally got to visit Temple Square at Christmastime.
  7. Here's my perspective on polygamy, second wives that are sealed to husbands, and all the other messy marriage-and-sealing business: God won't force us to be unhappy for eternity. If we've earned the Celestial Kingdom, He won't force anything upon that will make us unhappy or uncomfortable, just to let us in.
  8. Nah, her non-Mormonism is just obvious because of her aversion to letters.

    Two words

    Animal Farm (also depressing...lol)
  10. I have a good friend who is struggling with a number of things in life right now, which are being exacerbated by a deep depression and excessive thoughts of self-loathing. I thought of her a lot during this talk, particularly when he said, "Acknowledge and face your weaknesses but don’t be immobilized by them."
  11. It's interesting to me how we all view things so differently. You heard undertones of immigration and social exclusion. I heard political themes that made me wonder if Elder Holland is a Democrat (help the poor and needy -- it doesn't matter why they're poor; help them anyway). Sometimes it bothers me that the Brethren (and Conference talks in general) skirt around issues and are so vague. Sometimes I yell at the screen like a football fan, "Just come out and say it already!!" But the fact that so many of us found different interpretations in this one talk, yet so many of us really enjoyed it and felt the Spirit so strongly, makes me glad that it was somewhat ambiguous. We each hear what we need to hear. And on that vein, I noticed several talks about personal revelation as well. :) This is problematic enough, apparently, that it warranted specific discussion in a different Conference talk (Elder Oaks, I think?).
  12. Elder Holland's up next...my cookie!
  13. I didn't notice the juxtaposition. I did notice that the men's ties were SUPER bright, though, compared to what we typically see. I always like seeing the bright varied colors in the Saturday afternoon session, though, because MoTab always dresses as clones. :)
  14. Snow White is not LDS, er, Mormon. Evidence: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/video-once-a-time-mary-737401
  15. I wouldn't wear my garments for such an activity.
  16. Here's something interesting. BYU-I does not allow shorts on campus. Or capris. Or flip-flops. For either men or women. Knee-length (or longer) skirts and dresses are allowed for women, and pants are allowed for both, but not shorts. What does that have to do with doctrine? Absolutely nothing. Same with the beards. Oh, and both campuses permit facial hair of the mustache persuasion.
  17. I think it entirely misses the point to say that anyone killed Jesus. The atonement is made possible only and completely because Jesus gave His own life for us. Were it not so, He would have died in vain.
  18. What is your biggest monthly budget area? Other than utilities, car payment, rent/mortgage, what is the one area in your monthly budget that "hurts" the most? Groceries? Clothing? Entertainment? What do you do to try to reduce spending in that area, without spending a ton of time (i.e., not couponing as a 40 hr/week job) or making huge sacrifices?
