  1. thank you for posting this. I am struggling with this issue too. I don't have time to respond tonight but I will try to soon. One thought though. Even though the people we serve seem to not appreciate and even are rude about our service or when we can't serve, Christ knows our hearts and he does appreciate our efforts.
  2. I really have no response to that. I think we live in different worlds. :)
  3. I like what Anatess said ... and I second and third "talk to your parents". And... maybe you need to talk to your YW's leader privately too." Your parents will give you the right advice.
  4. I listened to a talk by John Bytheway recently called Come Unto Christ. (Not a new topic). In the talk he makes the point that instead of using the word "can't" we should use the word "won't". Maybe its a talk that would help your husband. Its not about "I can't drink coffee." Its about "I won't drink coffee because coffee isn't good for my body." OR Its not about "I can't drink alcohol" but rather "I won't drink alcohol because alcohol fogs up my brain and I am less in control." OR ....... you can fill in the blanks. :) When we use the word won't instead of can't is shows that we are choosing to act for ourselves. I've never viewed the WoW or commandments as restrictions. I can see how some do. My children all think its restrictions. I see the commandments God gives us a safety rails on the freeway of life. Sure I can choose to smoke, drink, not go to church, not pray, etc., but when I follow the commandments I'm happier and I'm healthier. I hope that helps a little. Addition: Don't judge yourself too harshly over the tattoos. Yes they are visible but some people have worse sins that aren't visible. Just do your best and know that Christ will forgive anyone who wants to come to Him. Best Wishes!
  5. Interesting. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. :)
  6. whose reality? (rhetorical) Seriously, If it helps bring a little less worry and peace to someone's life then it matters. Just about everything in this life is about "feelings". We're even commanded regarding a "feeling".
  7. That wasn't my intent. You said "Well, there is the whole, specific, "These are they who are not valiant in the testimony of Jesus" thing from D&C 76." I'm responding to the thread. You brought up D&C 76. I really don't have time to go back over the course of this blow by blow. :)
  8. I've used herbal teas for years. Peppermint is good for tummy aches. Ginger is good for nausea. Chamomile for relaxation. But... the WoW does state that herbs are good for us. D&C 89:11 "Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with prudence and thanksgiving." Testimonial: I've been struggling with kidney issues for several years. The doctors I've been to want me to restrict the vegetables I eat. HUH? I did my own research. I chose to start drinking Dandelion Root Tea every morning. I have not had to have more surgery. I have not had more symptoms. I have not had to go back to the doctor. :) I think we have to be smart about what we're doing. Prophets have told us to educate ourselves. That means about our health and how to stay healthy as much as it means what to avoid.
  9. Oh... if it was only that simple. My neighbor adopted a young girl (older than her two boys) out of foster care. She had been in 17 foster homes. There was NOT full disclosure until after they hired an attorney AFTER the adoption to get all records. Actually say there was not full disclosure is a major understatement. The boys have now been diagnosed with PTSD, and both are still in elementary school. For awhile they boys were sleeping with their parents and the bedroom door was locked. Eventually they placed her in a group home at their expense. They love her, she is sealed to them in the temple, she goes to church but she can't live WITH them. These stories happen to often and scare the living daylights out of parents with younger children. Those of us who have lived a bit longer and have seen a bit more suggested to her that adopting a child older than her own was something she needed to think about some more. But... it didn't change anything. They are great people and they are doing the best they can in a terribly situation. I am sure they will assist her in having a better life than she would have otherwise but is the cost too high? I think so. The first responsibility is to the other children in the home, then we have a responsibility to those who don't have families.
  10. Classylady, Thank you for posting. I've wondered about that and in discussions over the years was often told "why does it matter?" But it can matter. I'm glad there is an answer to the question.
  11. Send a letter to him in care of the mission president or the mission home. They will forward it.
  12. valiant by your definition. We can't judge. It is not our place to say I'm more valiant than you. Or wear a white church to on Sunday so I'm more valiant. Only Christ can know our hearts. D&C 76 describes what we can expect. What it doesn't describe is what is in our neighbors heart.
  13. Regarding #3. No it doesn't bother me. The reason it doesn't it because I believe in the Atonement. I know its real and I know it works and it works for me who is a sinner as well as anyone who has never heard the gospel or maybe was approached by missionaries and didn't listen, or ...well anyone. I think I would be Prideful ( a sin) to say I've accepted the gospel and done all I've been asked I think those who didn't shouldn't get the same advantage.... pride is a sin. So... since we're all sinners I'm not in a position to claim I should have special privileges based on longer activity in the church. Why do you think that only the valiant (by your definition) will be the only ones in the Celestial Kingdom?
  14. Obert Skye is LDS. He wrote the Leven Thumps series
  15. I want a laundry machine that goes a few steps further.... irons and the clothes come out hung up on hangers. I would love a self cleaning bathroom.
  16. its something I don't have to worry about now. I need to worry about repenting and becoming as much like Christ as possible. I'm failing, but I'm trying. We will understand more in the next life and even more after judgment day. I just can't see that anything we've been taught about the Celestial Kingdom is going to cause anything but joy when we understand the whole picture. What I remember when I become upset or anxious about something like polygamy in the Celestial Kingdom is: My Heavenly Father loves me. He gave me the wonderful gift of Agency. He wants me to be happy. Therefore if I do all I can to live as He would have me live whatever comes in the next life will be ok.
  17. There is nothing anywhere that says non-members (which includes all children under age 8) shouldn't take the sacrament. I agree with PaPa and Pam... let them take it and don't worry about it.
  18. Or then there is the families who stay active and do all they can and somehow their kids all become inactive. You can't make those assumptions from the outside in.
  19. I wasn't going to contribute to this thread. Everyone has said what I would say. Then I ran across the following and felt impressed to post it. The key here is that there are more things than other women that men sometimes choose instead of their wife. It sounds like you've started to identify some of the things you've chosen instead of your wife but have you identified them all?
  20. I'm going to assume its water base paint. I'd wear my garments. They do wash up really well after all.
