You may want to be careful about "God's" involvement in Government. Because there are an awful lot of people who also want "God" in government who also think your religion is a cult. You might not fare so well if they get their version of God inserted. Just an observation. :)

I think the whole gist of this thread confuses me. It talks about our current war - in a part of the board that is about Gospel Discussion" -as a generally supported war, or at least this war, as part of the Gospel, against the evils of terrorism, that is based on another religions. If I were an Islamist, maybe a moderate one, who just wants to practice my religion, why wouldn't I see this as an attack on my religion? As a layman, why wouldn't I see this as a "we are right because we have the right God", Christian version of Jihad. Like I said.... I am confused. Could somebody clarify.

If this is the case..... how come we are not currently at war with Iran? You do realize also that this rationale - a religious basis as it were - is the same rationale they use against us? So are you saying we should go out in a widespread, take no prisoners, religious war, and pretty much exterminate those Islamist nations? I doubt it. Please clarify.

So basically for you, the only issue that matter when it comes to religion, is abortion. Interesting. Somehow I get the feeling you had your mind made up a long time ago and you were just looking for an excuse to trash this particular religion. But that is just me.

No problem, I can make a pretty good case nobody is pro-life, just anti-abortion. It is just the nature of this contentious issue. It's been this way for 35 years and isn't likely to change. :)

I am guessing here, but you probably think the abortion statistics are outrageous as well and believe that people shouldn't be so irresponsible...?? This we agree on. I am not pro abortion.... I am pro choice. I am also pro abstinence, with education about safe sex. Once one is an adult it is.... safe sex ,within a monogomous relationship. I am very adament about this. Especially since I have a teenaged girl. But I am also realistic. Protection is available. And if that unportected mistake is made, the family doctor has the permission (on record) to give a morning after pill without my "on-site" permission. I know kids... they won't say, "dad, I did the deed unportected and we need to get that morning after pill coctail." They will hope for that monthly visit instead. That is not functional.

Uh, I am not sure how to reply to all of this. I gave you the various polled opinions, about the various views on abortion, over a considerable amount of time. If you don't like them, than you don't. If you don't like my position, then you don't either. I am just showing what is "out there", and telling you what my views, and those of my peers are, is all. If that makes me bad in your view, I am okay with that. These differences are part of the fabric of society.

On the otherhand I have a kid who is extremely talented. Can punch her own ticket athletically and academically, and if she decided she didn't want to carry a child, and mess all of that up, at the age of 15-17, and since it is her body and not mine, I can see that.

And maybe then they would understand that there may be consequences to the action and might consider being married.......IMO Unfortunately kids are not adults, and that is a heck of a lesson for making a mistake by being a kid. Not a mistake I would require a kid to pay for, for the rest of their life, just because they had the bad luck to be born a female, instead of a male. Unless.... because it is their body.... it is what they insist upon. But that is just me, I am male, and will probably not become pregnant anytime soon.

This below site is pretty comprehensive, using a number of polls, over a number of years. It covers the issue in a lot of different ways. FWIW, I would have no problem with abortion being illegal for anything over viability outside the womb (about 21-22 weeks). Abortion FWIW, do you really think if you had the public support you think you have that abortion would still be legal? I think you run in different culture and group of people than I do (actually I am sure of that) I can tell you that most of my peers, my family, and people I associate with, over the past 30 years, have been almost exclusively pro-choice. Does this mean everybody is because that is my experience? Of course not. But I have to ask.... because you live in a different sort of world than I do, where most are pro-life, that therefore there is actually a large majority... because that is all you really see?

I'd let Kona be. Anybody who considers about half the population as supporting murder would just have to be miserable in living in such a nation. Probably scared too. I know I would be if I thought half the population were potential murderers. Heck.... I'd probably move in a really big hurry. :)

First paragraph: In the first trimester I look at it as more of not letting the misery get started in the first place. Second paragraph: The explanations are there. But kids make mistakes. Adoption is an option of course. But again, if it is a girl kid, it's not my body.

Another one is moral relativism......."there are already enough unwanted kids in the world.." As one of those terrible moral relativists.... there really is a lot of unwanted and abused kids in the world. But hey, that's just me. I am male so I'm not getting pregnant anytime soon. If I have a kid that does.... it's not my body, and if I have to front the money, than I am dang well getting paid back.

There has been quite a few times that we have had to sit our children down and teach them that their behaviour and the motive behind it was wrong according to God's law and teach them over and over again about repentance and walking back to the rod and take hold of it again. This process involves inviting them to "not do it again" and showing them by example and training them to judge and assess themselves against the yardstick of the gospel. Most of the time it is a teaching moment and you have the great oppotunity of teaching and training your child to judge and analyse themselves, but there are times when quick swift action needs to be taken to alter behaviour and change attitudes. When it is children then of course that is what any parent should do, teach them. They are kids and need to be taught. But, I am an adult now. Actually an aging adult swiftly working down the other side of the hill. Is there a difference between the two? Or is it still okay to judge because "you are right and I am wrong"? Are you okay with me suggesting the same thing in reverse? Isn't that the theme of this thread?

Tip toeing in.... As a secularist I get judged harshly by religious folk all of the time. Heck, I've even been kicked off of several religious boards, and have even has suggested my views don't fit in with a church/ward in the real world. Now to be sure I have been known to judge "right back at ya", but hey..... we all do it. We all think our way, or views are the best. It's just part of being human I guess. Tip toeing back out....
