  1. I totally agree with this. I do think you both need to approach it together. I also know that when your tithing is paid in full, you will be blessed AND provided for. The Lord will take care of you. ALSO, from personal experience, it's NOT okay to NOT pay tithing. The Lords blessings have been very evident in my life from paying tithing. And the lack of blessings from not paying tithing have also been very evident. Often during struggles like this you're more likely to recognize God's hand in your life. Good Luck, pray about your decision with your husband and you'll do the right thing. Man, I must have completely fumbled my whole point. My position is this: Not only can we NOT pay years of 'back-tithing', we can NOT pay weeks of 'back-tithing'. There is no such thing as 'back-tithing'. If we didn't pay, we can never pay. We must start paying now on what we earn now and never look back. That is what I am saying. Can we perform 'back-chastity'? Can we do some 'back-Word of Wisdom'? We cannot be so righteous now that our past transgressions are blotted out thereby. The LORD isn't tallying our life-long income and holding us accountable for ten percent of that figure at the judgement, just as He isn't counterbalancing our chaste living today against previous transgressions. We are to repent and rely on the LORD's Sacrifice and Atonement to redeem us from past transgressions. We simply begin paying now on what we are receiving now. To say otherwise is to deny the Atonement of Jesus Christ in my opinion. -a-train That is very well put -a-train. I have a new understanding. Thanks, man!
  2. Oh gosh, I still struggle with what I want to do. I'm 24 years old now and have been out of high school for what...7 years now? I thought when I first graduated from High school I wanted to be a photographer, more than anything! So, I pursued that for a year and took some time off because well, I didn't like one of my photography teachers. I think she kinda jaded me with photography. So, needing to go back to school to retake that class, I took it from the same teacher, ironically, and this time around I really enjoyed it and I did well in the class. So, I took it up again. Well, my last semester of school I took a intro to multi media class because it was prerequisite for my photoshop for photographers class. In that class we covered some stuff with photoshop and other stuff and I discovered that I REALLY like graphic design! So, in January, when I was...rather harshly treated by my sister in law...I decided to move up to Gillette Wyoming. I looked and looked for a job somewhere within the artistic industry, anywhere. I found a job as a retoucher/graphic designer for a nationally acclaimed photographer. I was lucky enough to get the job! So, now with that experience under my belt, I'm thinking about opening up a business on the internet to offer my services as a skilled photoshop user. You know, a lot of people hire amateur photographers for their special events and they get back these raw image files that with the right touch, will look amazing! I could offer that service. Now, my goal is to get a degree in graphic design or maybe I'll be picked by some fashion photographer somewhere...Hollywood? NYC? Yeah, I dream big.
  3. Yeah, definently contact the Relief Society President. She would be able to/know who to contact for help. I have to agree with Strawberry Fields on most parts. Take it from personal experience: Inviting another family into your home is not a good idea. My last experience with that was...to say the least ...the most horrible idea that was ever conceived by mankind. After all, give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. TEACH a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime. So yeah, you'll want to get help getting her on her feet and on her own. She and her children will benefit the most from that.
  4. One of my favorite places to visit has been Seattle washington. It is such a beautiful city. There is a lot of stuff to see (space needle, Mt. Rainier (if you like skiing), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...etc...etc..etc...) If you get bored with Seattle, just hop on a ferry and go to BEAUTIFUL Victoria, BC, Canada. See, the Empress Hotel, Parliament (sp?) building and, of course, Buchart Gardens. After that, take the ferry through the San Juan Islands back to seattle for a beautiful view. It would be a very easy going trip, not rushed at all. Another of my favorites is DC. There is SOOOOOO much to see. The museums, historical landmarks... The history of the USA just comes alive in that city...for good reason. BUT, of ALL the places I have EVER been (which is only a few) I would go back to Hawaii. It's just so....easy going and warm and beautiful and entertaining and peaceful. About Las Vegas. Las Vegas is a fun place to visit but... More often than not I have had bad experiences in Las Vegas. After my several visits to Las Vegas I have pretty much decided that if all you want to do is spend money, you will great time. Las Vegas is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. The only thing to do there is gamble (spend money), Shop (spend money) and sun worship pool side while sipping drinks (spend money). I'd make it a side trip. Like make Las Vegas a connection where you spend the night of something. You can see nearly everything in one night. BUT, that's my opinion.
  5. For me I will always love M*A*S*H, it will always have a specialy place in my heart *sniff*. Just kidding, but I do watch it almost religiously. After that I watch Monk (hee hee, it's hilarious!) America's Next Top Model (don't know why but, I'm hooked!!!) and Avatar: The Last Airbender (it' on Nicktoons on friday nights) seriously, it's got one of the best storylines, best animation, and most well developed characters, for an american animated cartoon on nickelodeon. Oh yeah, I love watching Good Eats with Alton Brown on the food network. He's hilarious and scientific! It's like watchin Bill Nye cook!!! I've even tried out a few of his recipes, they're great!
  6. I am now looking forward to the day when I finally get to go!
  7. Lol, I had a really "good" bad first date too. My first date was the homecoming dance my junior year. As the date of the dance approaches, I kept wondering if I would get asked to go. Well, 2 weeks before, nothing. 1 week before, nothing. 3 days before, nothing. 2 days before, nothing but, I had admitted defeat and had already accepted the fact that I wasn't going to the dance. 1 day encounting and what happens...yep, I got asked out. That was problem #1, which played into a lot of the other problems. He asked me the night before the dance and I didn't have a dress to wear. The only time I had to shop for a dress was first thing in the morning before the dance. My mom and I spent an hour at Dillards and found a dress that would work. (it was hard because none of the dresses were modest, and I am). Next problem was my hair, I had to style it myself (not too big of a problem). Then I was ready after walking around in a panic that morning. Well, he came to pick me up and I looked gorgeous! Well, I had a flower for him and he had NOTHING for me. So, on our way out, he stopped at a grocery store to have one made for me. (hello, formal dance!!! ) After we got that out of the way, it was embarassing walking through a grocery store in a formal dress, he took me out to dinner. Well, it wasn't just any dinner, it was KFC!!! Holy cow! What in the world! (Hello, formal dance, and I hate their mashed potatoes) After that he took me to a movie (I wish this date would end faster!!!) Finally, I got to the dance and I was nice and I stood by my man and I didn't ditch him. Luckily, we were both uncomfortable dancing so after a few songs we went and talked to our friends. I was happy that he didn't try to kiss me. We did remain friends through out high school and I think he had a crush on me for a LONG time. I laugh about it now. (ha ha ha, kfc for a formal dance....lol) B)
  8. Seriously, our FHE and other activities are getting to be pretty repetetive. We need some suggestions, anybody got any ideas? Please keep in mind that my ward holds FHE on Sunday, which I think is weird. Oh well, what can ya do?
  9. Yes, do pray! Also understand the joining the church is a life long committment, not just a spur of the moment thing. Also become acquainted and follow the teachings of the prophet and the apostles, in those sacred writings and the scriptures and praying, you'll know what to do. Also, you may want to talk to the missionaries who are teaching you about this question. They'll probably be able to give you some pretty good sound advice, I'm sure they've been asked similar questions before. Oh yeah, Char, don't give up so easily, one of the most fundamentally important aspects of the church is the teaching of enduring to the end. It may not be easy but, it will be worth it! Anything you set your mind to, you can do! Since you have access to the computer check out the church website! www.lds.org. There are some awesome talks there and you can search by topic, speaker, date, time anything!!! Also, take a good look at the strength of youth pamplet, it give great sound advice too. Oh yeah, when you get baptized, you should consider getting your patriarchal blessing, I can tell you from personal experience getting that and reading it often is one reason I'm still active in the church. sorry this is so long but, don't give up! Keep searching!!!! The lord loves you and the churh is true!!!
  10. So, What's up with the icon? All you guys seem to use it. I don't get it...
  11. Don't quote me on this but, I used to work in a copy shop and we weren't allowed to print copyrighted pictures unless they were 20 years old or older. 50 years is pushing it. I mean, what if the company who shot those photos went out of business 30 years ago? What would you do? Who would you go to to a copy right release? I totally support copyright laws (I am a amateur photographer) but, there have got to be exceptions.
  12. So to heck with it! MERRY HOLIDAYS!!! or HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!! Season's Greetings! Etc....etc....etc... Take your pick, they're all good!
  13. None of those choices fit me either. Yeah, I'm christian but when it comes to wishing people a merry christmas or happy holidays I don't think anything of it. I say Merry Christmas because it's tradition. I say Happy Holidays because I'm sick of saying Merry Christmas and I need something new.
  14. Yeah, The Notebook is not a movie I recommend for a date. It's more of a movie for a bunch of girls to get together and watch...I cry almost everytime I watch it. I also really like old musicals like 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, Fiddler on the Roof and The Sound of Music. Those are all really, really good musicals.
  15. My favorite movie is Legally Blonde, then I like Walking Tall. After that are the cartoons like Mulan and Beauty and the Beast. I like the mindless movies. I liked Just Like Heaven. and of course the ever mentioned The Notebook.
  16. Words of Wisom: In essence this is telling us to not sweat the small stuff, or don't freak out over things that can be resolved. "Crisis + Time = Humor." Believe me I know. Like the time the cat got in the dryer and we turned it on not knowing he was there. All we heard was a little yip then tha-thunk, tha-thunk, tha-thunk. Yeah, then we realized what happened and pulled him out. He was warm, and staticky. We freaked out about it at the time but now we can laugh about it. Another gooder is "Faith cannot be exercised while in doubt." and "Faults and Failings and the superficiality of mere physical attractions are as nothing compared with the genuiness of good character that endures and grows more beautiful with years." I think those are both by Sheri Dew. I know the first one is but the second one, I'm not so sure. Good luck!!!
  17. "I see you're drinking 1%. Is that 'cause you think you're fat? You could be drinking whole if you wanted."
  18. Charlie, I like your reply too. I'm going to keep an eye on the newspapers from now on. This guy I like is very knowledgable, he might enjoy something like that. Thanks!
  19. Vampire books? Have you guys read The Historian? By Elizabeth Kostova? Interesting, I thought.
  20. Anyone have any ideas for inexpensive yet fun dates?
  21. That's ridiculous. (Unfortuantley, I am a Target fan.) Why are the atheists forcing their beliefs and opinions on christians? Maybe everyone should just get real and grow up. That way nobody would force their opinions and beliefs on anyone. It's just crazy I tell you! CRAZY!
