  1. I think I'm leaning towards it being more related to the "Pillar of Fire" phenomenon. Of course that still doesn't explain the night of no darkness in the Americas.
  2. Ha ha ha. This remainds me of the first area in my mission. One of the counselors in the branch presidency always had a service project for us to do every week. We went to the hospital, or should I say "hospital," and cleaned up the grounds. We did some good work there. I didn't realize what was going on until I found out that the councelor was the hospital's grounds keeper. If you didn't get it we were doing his job for him.
  3. I've photographed star trails. So I've seen the evidence of the "movement" of the stars. But I've never seen a star "move" and then stop over a certain location. For a "star" to mark a location in such a manner it would have to be directly overhead the location and only go up to a certain height. The higher it got the greater the area would be that could call that object "overhead." If it truely was a star then it would only guide to the place of the place of Christ's birth from a certain angle. If an observer followed the path of the star and reached the place of Christ's birth, but then continued walking the star would no longer appear to be over the location. In fact, upon reaching the location the star would not appear to be over the location but would be in the distant sky.
  4. I'd like to think it was a supernova or something but the scriptures do say the star moved and then stopped over the place where Jesus was born. If it would have been a supernova it wouldn't have been able to stop over the place where Jesus was. But everything must happen in the physical world and interact with phycial things such as atoms. So some form of scientific principles MUST apply to EVERYTHING God does. It may be science that we do not yet understand but it is science none the less. Our science, as advanced as we may think it is, isn't even a fraction of a fraction of one percent of all the things in the universe.
  5. I wonder if their mission president got after them for wasting time.
  6. The Law of Consecration is SWEET! It would be cool to get a large enough group together to live it.
  7. I thought it was only one night of light in the Americas.
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if they had temple ceremonies in Second life. Crazy stuff goes on in there. I registered but my wireless made it too slow. I'm glad I haven't spent much time there.
  9. Old Testament Student Manual Genesis - 2 Samuel (4-22) Genesis 10:25 . Was the Earth Divided in the Days of Peleg? “The dividing of the earth was not an act of division by the inhabitants of the earth by tribes and peoples, but a breaking asunder of the continents, thus dividing the land surface and creating the Eastern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere. By looking at a wall map of the world, you will discover how the land surface along the northern and southern coast of the American Hemisphere and Europe and Africa has the appearance of having been together at one time. Of course, there have been many changes on the earth’s surface since the beginning. We are informed by revelation that the time will come when this condition will be changed and that the land surface of the earth will come back again as it was in the beginning and all be in one place. This is definitely stated in the Doctrine and Covenants. [ D&C 133:18–20 is then cited.]” (Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, 5:73–74.) If I remember correctly the way the age of the continent seperation is determined by sections of the ocean floor which contain different magnetic polarities. By counting the number of zones between the continent and the mid atlantic rift then multiplying that number by how long scientists think it takes for the magnetic poles to switch from north to south they can determine how long it took ofr the plates to seperate. That's the short version any way. But I'm not sure how scientist know that the time between magentic pole shifts is exactly the same all the time. Also here's just a personal observation, I'm not a geologist, but when the continents east and west fo teh mid atlantic rift both were formed from that rift by lava piling up around the edges of the rift. Now if we assume(and we all know what happens when we assume) that lava from the rift builds up at a somewhat constant rate. then some time between the continental shelf and the present positions fo teh coninents they plates moved very quickly. This is evident because there is much less material built up between the continental shelf and the mid atlantic rift. Since it moved so fast it had less time to build up material. This would result in a lower sea floor just like what we sea. But if material built up out of the mid atlantic rift at a constant rate and the continents seperated at a constant slow rate then we should see continent rather than sea floor between the continents an dthe mid atlantic rift. A shallow sea at the most.
  10. Well if the earth wasn't divided until the time of Peleg. Then it's probable the huge mountain ranges hadn't formed yet either. So if the Earth's surface was still relatively near sea level. Thus there wouldn't need to be the volume of water calculated based on current measurements. Also the erosion around the body of the Sphinx is thought by some to be water erosion. Here in Idaho, while ago, there was an earthquake that caused the top of a mountain(I think it might have been Borah) to rise three feet in one second. So geological transformation can happen that fast. Based on that calculation, it would take about 2.6 hours to form Mount Everest.
  11. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. Ephesians 4:11-13(emphasis added 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: There are going to be difference religions and different belief systems. Until we come to a unity of faith in Christ. Which probably wont happen until the Millenium.
  12. I think dreams are awesome. But what I really like is dream architecture, especially pertaining to water. You should draw what you saw in your dream or have someonw draw it dor you. It would be awesome to see it on paper.
  13. That was pretty cool. I learned alot. But not to make light it did seem almost like an episode of I Love Lucy. *Rick and Lucy Embrace Lucy: I don't want a vacation from marriage. I want to be stuck in a rut with you.*
  14. Me being a band nerd in high school, it wasn't until my mission that one of my companions put me on to this fact. It sure would have put a different spin on things had I known it back then. But then your talking to the guy who, in high school, got rejected everytime he asked a girl on a date. My prospective Senior prom date said she was waiting for someone else to ask her. And that after it took me weeks to get up enough courge to ask her. I better stop now before all those horrible repressed memories come flooding back.
  15. I think our perceptions of beauty will change. But I also think our perfected bodies will be as beautiful as we want them to be. Since our perceptions of physical beauty are the result of the biological need to reproduce and have healthy offspring. Our perception of certain characteristics being more beautiful than others stems from from the genetic health of those people with those features. Since the process of reproduction with perfect bodies is unknown, I can only guess that, since the need/desire to reproduce with a genetically healthy partner will probably be gone, our perceptions of physical beauty will be different. (how's that for a run on sentence)
  16. Being a Star Trek fan I find this all *raises one eyebrow* fascinating. DO youhave any references to other hand gestures?
  17. I know adaptation occurs but I don't believe evolution occurs. No. I believe that life is genetically related(similar) But I don't believe that all life on earth is the descendant of a single ancestor. I have no idea but pretty dang old. I have no idea but pretty dang old. Possibly. It makes sense to me. It's possible, but that doesn't make either one right or wrong it just means they are different. It's impossible for us to know everything. There will always be some piece missing. So I would say no. But I think it's important that we shouldn't be afraid of gaining knowledge and understanding.
  18. I don't know. Maybe not. Of course they could be part of the pattern of a human body. Also it's possible perfect bodies don't have belly buttons.
  19. I thin kwe need a brush up on what happens within the Law of Consecration. People keep talking about giving their property to the church as if it will leave them homeless. I'll post some scriptures here in a bit but first I have a couple errands to run.
  20. As long as it's part of the program of the church. The Law of Consecration is the way to go. It'd be nice to be able to do what I enjoy as a job and not have to struggle to make ends meet. Not that I have to struggle that much right now. I'm just saying what I enjoy probably wouldn't be that big of money maker.
  21. Well the important thing for us to know right now is that God is the only God that we nee dto concern ourselves with since He is our God. Even if there are others they are irrelevent to us right now because they are not the God that rules over us. But Personally I believe that Heavenly Father has a father, and that father has a father. So I think that you are correct in assuming "almost like a spirit genealogy." But only with this there is no beginning nor an end. There will always be another father. and there will always be more children. You would never be able to find the end points.
  22. Our works determine our relationship with Christ. But All the spirits must be ressurected and then Judged, After that they go to one of three kingdoms. It would occur sometime after the entrance into the Celestial kingdom. Since time is meaningless there it would be safe to say it would happen after an eternity of being in the Celestial Kingdom. Of course you have to remember that we are just limited creatures even after being ressurected. We would still have to learn EVERYTHING and become PERFECT before godhood could occur. Also I don't think godhood would be limited to one planet. Is our God the God of only one planet? Is he not also the God of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and all the other planets in the entire universe? So it's safe to say that when one attains godhood they would have their own universe, just like our Father has his own universe. Oh, sorry I'm not sure of any references. Most of the stuff concerning godhood is speculation
  23. About the "there is no God line of thinking." If there is no God and humans are just here by chance. Don't you think given millions of years humans would advance to the point of becoming gods. And if so they would master everything needed to become a GOd including time and space. Thus there would have to be a God. Anyway just an idea.
  24. Well I don't think God did any thing with Mary that would qualify as reproducing with her. We read it was the Holy Ghost that came upon Mary. The way I think of it is that God simply commanded the atoms within Mary to come together in a certain pattern. There wasn't a relationship involved. I would say no since Mary wasn't married to God nor did she have a relationship with Him.
  25. This is a great post. No matter what we learn, no matter what we know it is impossible for us to know everything. There will always be something that doesn't connect, or doesn't make sense or fit the puzzle.
