  1. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. -Pride and Prejudice
  2. i'm sure you are NOT fat....i'm sure you are perfect the way you are. i LOVE treacle as well. (i have a minor obsession with all things british....my VERY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE WHOLE OF THE EARTH just happens to have been from england.)
  3. ok, so i am about to go on my rant about polygyny (don't worry....it's not what you think!!). i do not understand why everyone is so hard on the lds people for their past with regard to polygamy (and polygyny specifically)! first of all, it was done for a reason. second of all, it was done in small numbers. even if it was continuted today - for religious or other reasons - i don't understand what the issue is. polygyny has been (and continues to be) a very popular form of union in the world. my own people (tibetan) have practiced polyandry (and, for that matter, adelphogamy) for centuries. it was an accepted social practice as there were far fewer women than there were men. this is also true of nepal. polyandry achieved a similar goal to what primogeniture did in 19th-century england. millions of people have practiced some form of polygyny in africa for a very long time. it was accepted in ancient hebrew society, in china, and in many traditional polynesian cultures. estimates are that it is currently practiced by 20% (some say as high as 35%) of modern societies. in other words....everyone (in my humble opinion ) should leave mormons alone about their past. what's done is done, and it seems to have been done for good reason. there is so much of good about the lds people and i fail to see why everyone focuses on one aspect of their history that they understand so poorly. ok, i'm finished now. sorry to go on and on!!
  4. there are far worse things in life than being called a mormon lol.... rectify it how? by baptising me?? is that a little like click, clack, moo: cows that type? (great book, by the way)

  7. hello berean, my friend....it's nice to see you on this site as well. :)
  8. just to put my $.02 in....truth, as defined by a buddhist, is that which is believed to be, not necessarily what really is (fact).
  9. ya....what do you plan to do about it??
  10. that is SO true!! i was thinking that only recently. i came to this site because of the love and respect i have for my lds friends. i think (i hope) that i have shown that through my posts. (wow, that didn't sound very bashing of me! let's try again....*clears throat*....you mormons....all....smell like sweet tarts!! ok, that wasn't very good, but i can't think of anything bad to say!)

(this one has two parts....favorite chapter book and favorite picture book) second, what is your ALL-TIME favorite children's book author and why? (note....your favorite book may not necessarily have been written by your favorite author)
  18. the buddha has said that life can be found only in the present moment. the past is gone, the future is not yet here.... what would you, as lds people, say is the single most important thing you can do each moment to show the world (or god) that your are a faithful member of the church? i suppose it may be difficult to come up with just one, but try ....what is the single most important?
  19. hello k....welcome to the site! i, too, am not lds, although i love and respect my lds friends. i am a life-long buddhist (my mother is from india and my father is from tibet), but it is a pleasure to participate on this site. i have read the bhagavad gita and found much in it that is noteworthy and beautiful. the same is true of the book of mormon. blessings to you in the dharma light....
  20. one cannot control what one does not feel. if god can control his anger, then he must have experienced anger. this would, indeed, be a part of our personality. (i just posted something about god....how odd for me :) )
  21. anger is such an interesting emotion. i think that it is so important not to ignore anger (or any emotion, for that matter). i think the worst advice someone can give (and which people give with great frequency) to someone is..."don't be angry" or "calm down!" or "you shouldn't feel that way." our emotions are a part of us and we cannot control how we feel. we can control how we act on our emotions, but the emotions themselves come as surely as the the setting of the sun at the end of each glorious day. buddhists often use a technique to deal with anger that focuses on the emotion itself. when i become angry at something, i am quick to aknowledge that i am feeling anger and that it is a legitimate and normal emotion. i am the anger, and the anger is me. i can no more stop anger from coming than i can stop myself from being human. to be human is to experience emotion. something that works for me when i become angry is to take a walk outside and meditate while breathing, focusing on my breath, and thinking: Breathing in, I know that anger is here. Breathing out, I know that the anger is me. Breathing in, I know that anger is unpleasant Breathing out, I know this feeling will pass. Breathing in, I am calm. Breathing out, I am strong enough to take care of this anger. i suppose that this may not work for everyone, but it works well for me.
  22. i would love to. is there any particular thing that i can help with or for which you have a question about meditation? (please know that i am not an expert, but i have practiced meditation the whole of my life, and i like to think that i am good at it LOL.)
  23. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
  24. hello mn.... thank you for your response. it was well written and thoughtful. i have to admit, however, that some of what you said excapes me. i do apologize, but i am not as familiar with lds terminology (or christian, for that matter) as i would like to be. what is a patriarchal blessing?
