  1. It may be for the kids, but that doesn't mean adults who don't like the show have to suffer. There are tons of kids shows, a happy medium can be found
  2. Barney is totally banned from our house. Gwendolyn will never know the purple dinosaur, no matter how many times he's on netflix.
  3. Remember the huge SLC Olympic scandal? It was business as usual, but brought to light in the perfect circumstances. I believe we are seeing a combination of people thinking this is how it is so why be secret and people who are totally appalled at the corruption.
  4. So can it be assumed that none of these politically motivated non-profits received tax-free status?
  5. Lesson learned: don't take anything bigger than a bottle of water to Mexico.
  6. The US constitution is not and will never be a perfect document. Trying to say that health care isn't a human right is like trying to say eating isn't a human right, either.
  7. My goodness it's absolutely useless trying to have a decent discussion isn't it?
  8. As I recall, the Gadiantons started out robbing before entering politics. Yeah, Don't even get me started on this subject. Traveler, I think this is one topic where Mormons across the political spectrum can agree: they are real, we have been warned they will be here in this time, and we have to do what we can to stop them.
  9. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/27/us/politics/nonprofit-applicants-chafing-at-irs-tested-political-limits.html?hp&_r=3& So, I waited a while before commenting here. Because I was pretty sure something like this was going to happen, and I just wanted to enjoy the moment in the peace of a neglected thread. Ahhhhhhh, that felt good.
  10. It was a very interesting movie, full of all sorts of psychological stuff and visuals. I have to look for it now
  11. My opinion still is, if you're going to be paying 30 years on a house then make it a house you can live in for 30 years
  12. Aha!!! I knew I'd find this thread sooner or later. We've all expressed our opinions on this, so I wanted to throw this recent article in the mix and see if your opinions still hold. Mormon Parenting: It takes a whole ward to raise a child | Deseret News It strikes me as funny that there always has to be the obligatory 'entitlement' reference when it comes to non-liberal Americans and this idea. But otherwise I like this article.
  13. I didn't buy a lottery ticket, and I was tempted. TBH, I'm always tempted to buy a lottery ticket no matter how 'low' the prize lol. But I am very proud of myself for resisting
  14. I totally agree about houses being in the 'liability column'. You're living in it, it's not easy to sell, you can't pawn it, it's not a part of your cash flow lol.
  15. Landlords >< We had a hot water leak in the bathroom since October, told the landlord about it every week or so, and it didn't get fixed until February. By which time there was mold on the ceiling and walls from condensation despite all the bleach we could throw at it. So maint. guys finally came in to check it out in March, found mold in the ceiling, and proceeded to tell us this wouldn't have happened if we cleaned our trailer. So they took out a lot of the ceiling, redid the bathroom, and we were without water and toilet for only 9 days Disclaimer: the landlord had serious illness that ended in his death recently so I don't completely blame him. But how does a sink of dirty dishes equal mold in the rafters of the bathroom? And how did the maint. guy even see the sink if he came in the house through the back door? Oh, and they never did cut out an opening for the swamp cooler, so in these 80'+ temps we have a perfectly good swamp cooler on top of a perfectly good, hole-less roof. gah. I need some ice cream before I get really mad again.
  16. How was he suppose to take a stand? School board meetings politely explaining the lack of depth in an individual class? I'd love to see a video of that. And it was completely relevant, if you understood the point I was making. Since you didn't, I'll explain: my home-schooled child wouldn't have a reason to talk to me in that manner. I understand that much about kids, and I'm not even a teacher
  17. Gwen, that was perfect, thank you.
  18. All the royalty in my family line has been younger sons and daughters who never inherited lol. However, being a descendant of Harold Bluetooth is completely awesome.
  19. I tried to not fold my arms today during prayer in Relief Society, just kind've a clasped hands over stomach thing. What I got out of it was I need to do a lot more walking this summer
  20. Why? Seriously, why? If you know you'll be moving in 10-15 years then why not just buy a home you think you'll need for that time? Maybe you won't have 5 kids, but you can always use extra bedrooms a lot easier than you can fit 4 kids into a 2 bedroom house you can't sell cause the market tanked in your area. My husband and I are looking into home ownership so the question came up with no real answer yet
  21. There is a point for everyone where you have to take a stand against what you perceive as injustice, even in paid employment. I would hope that more people are willing to say 'This is wrong' instead of 'This is how it is'. My homeschooling methods would not involve packets. BTW, in Idaho as long as one on the people being recorded knows there they are being recorded it is completely legal.
  22. He's suppose to be more respectful than his teacher? How does that work? I've had teachers in high school who completely wasted my time. I wish I had the guts to tell them they were a disgrace, but I was taught to be respectful to authority figures so I said nothing. How is that better than what he did?
  23. I would, fat is tasty. Face it, life is way too short to be counting calories. Eat well, climb mountains, and love your spouse above all others is my new motto
  24. Poor kid knows full well that his time, and the time of his fellow students, is being wasted. I gather that he hasn't been in the class long, and he's obviously use to a higher level of teaching. He's a teenage, so his level of tact isn't very high. But I admire his courage to speak out about a perceived injustice. I'm kind've surprised by the comments here, I was sure that this would be used as a platform to encourage getting rid of teacher unions so principals could get rid of ineffective teachers easier....I deeply apologize for my cynicism.

    Fat hate

I love this letter to A&F. Amy Taylor: An Open Letter from a 'Fat Chick' to Mike Jeffries, CEO of Abercrombie And Fitch
