I guess my point was if it is an eternal characteristic, why would we have to choose it? Wouldn't it have already been a part of us?

In the family proclamation found here it states To me that sounds like gender is an eternal characteristic that was always with us and will always be with us and that we didn't choose it.

When I feel like temptations are getting stronger and I am becoming weaker, often times I will perform a fast and it seems to help quite a bit. I also like Gwen's idea of putting the computer in the living room and only using it when other people are around. Keep trying and you will be fine.
