One of my favorite side dishes.  Charoset - Fruit, nuts, and spices, meant to represent the mortar that the Israelites were forced to use to build the egyptian cities.

    My plan for this year:

Gala Apple, Pear (chopped & strained)
    Roasted nuts (Pistachios, pecans, pine)
Ginger, cinnamon stick, anise, salt, pepper
    Dates, Figs, Prunes, Currants
    Honey, apricot jam
    Pomegranate / grape juice
    Lemon juice & zest

It’s good on the lamb sandwich and as a topping with the Matzah bread (crackers).

Do people really eat sodium free crackers?

While I believe this particular comment was a troll, I'm old and experienced enough to avoid claiming that no one is really that stupid.

You probably need to get out more. (should have strike-thru formatting)

I have a very diverse group of clientele.

It takes quite a bit to surprise me now though.  As I am quite seasoned.  Hope to retire in 10 years.

    Me, “You did what!?”

Edit, I mis-read your reply.  Us old / experienced guys have seen some stuff.

I was thinking of "the bar" that is used in modern settings for the inner area in the courtroom for the judge and lawyers.  So, I could see this referring to God as the ultimate judge. Therefore, we meet at his bar.

    From the Webester 1828 Dictionary

    3) law

the railing in a courtroom that encloses the place about the judge where prisoners are stationed or where the business of the court is transacted in civil cases

the whole body of barristors or lawyers qualified to practice in the courts of any jurisdiction

    And from the BoM

1 Nephi 12:9 And he said unto me: Thou rememberest the twelve apostles of the Lamb? Behold they are they who shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, the twelve ministers of thy seed shall be judged of them; for ye are of the house of Israel.

10 And these twelve ministers whom thou beholdest shall judge thy seed. And, behold, they are righteous forever; for because of their faith in the Lamb of God their garments are made white in his blood.

I bet that we will be judged by our current apostles.

I'd prefer to have Elder Monson or Erying pead my case.  But I'll probably get McConkie or Packer.

  4. Jacob 5:3 For behold, thus saith the Lord, I will liken thee, O house of Israel, like unto a tame olive tree, which a man took and nourished in his vineyard; and it grew, and waxed old, and began to decay.

The average lifespan of an olive tree is 5-600 years but some live 2000 years.

So the only man that could have nourished the tree was the Lord.

I am very well versed in the Adam-God doctrine. It was definitely taught as a true doctrine received by the prophet of the church by revelation from God. Make of that what you will.

Nope.  Brigham Young claimed that he was taught the doctrine from Joseph Smith.  Specifically not ‘thus saith the Lord’

Most likely Joseph Smith was trying to teach Brigham Young some profound doctrine that Brigham Young obviously misunderstood.

It’s however not true that Brigham Young’s teachings on Adam-God are “contrary to eternal supportive doctrine” and not “supported with scripture.”

You may need to brush up on your understanding on doctrine.  May I recommend:

    https://rsc.byu.edu/vol-17-no-3-2016/doctrine-models-evaluate-types-sources-latter-day-saint-teachings

If you did your homework reading Journal of Discourses 1: 50-51

You will see that Brigham Young prefaces his discourse with the commentary “upon which subject the Elders of Israel have conflicting views.

Scripture is the golden standard.  General Conference talks and official proclamations are of a lesser standard.

In official proclamations there is obvious unanimity.

The Adam God Theory is categorized as esoteric doctrine.

Brigham Young clearly, plainly, and repeatedly taught that Adam is God the Father and the literal father of Jesus Christ. He taught that Adam and Eve came to this earth with Celestialized resurrected bodies, which they had received from being resurrected following a previous mortal probation on another planet. That they then fell and their bodies became mortal so they could provide physical bodies for all of their spirit children (all of mankind on this earth).

Brigham said that this truth was revealed to him by Joseph Smith and by revelation from God. He taught this for 25 years in the church. It was taught in the General Conference, priesthood meetings, meetings of the first presidency and quorum of the 12 apostles, and in the temple.

But this teaching was very controversial and many members of the church had a very hard time accepting it. It was deeply troubling and even disturbing to many. Others readily accepted it as truth and rejoiced in what they had received. For many others it was somewhere in between. Eventually the leaders stopped talking about it and even told the members to stop talking about it. Then many years later some leaders even said that these teachings about Adam and Eve were false.

If what Brigham Young taught was true, and a higher truth and deeper doctrine (as he claimed), then this would be a textbook example of light and truth being taken from the church because the members couldn't handle it.

Thats the beauty of having the scriptures and all the GC talks.

You have to personally do your homework, know the scriptures, read (and understand) GC talks, as well as employ personal revelation.

All the sources disagree with the so called ‘Adam God Theory’.

From time to time there will be big policy changes in the church but Eternal / Core doctrine never change.

You may have noticed thru the many postings of this thread that one person has been arguing their position contrary to everyone else.  That is called an outlier, and generally the outlier is wrong.

There is benefit to understanding doctrine and living your life in accordance to the covenant path.

Take the material as a whole and stop clinging to your personal doctrinal fancies, or conspiracy theories.

Jesus Christ is not trying to confuse you, and the General Authorities have made great sacrifices in their personal lives to help not hinder the saints.

If you look at Joseph Smith’s final general conference talk (the so called KFD), and you study it, you will find that he quotes scriptures extensively.  He did not give chapter and verse, but he quoted scripture.

The Adam God theory is confusing, contrary to eternal and supportive doctrine and isn’t supported with scripture.  I’m not sure if it was ever taught during a GC meeting either.

I guess the question is whether we should view the revelations published in the D&C quoting God's words directly through his prophet Joseph Smith the same way that we view Ezra Taft Benson's talk about pride? If the answer is that we should, then the logical question is if we should view all Conference talks by Presidents of the church the same way as the revelations in the D&C?

    That’s pretty simple minded.

If you believe in God, the Light of Christ, and the holy Ghost, and you have honed your spirit of discernment; then you personally know what is right and wrong, fringe and grey.

Most everyone knows when they are sinning.  It ain’t hard.

This past conference there was a talk given by Andrea Muñoz Spannaus wherein she took the 5 stones that David had prepared to fight Goliath and used them as a medium for a message about the “strength we need to be triumphant in our lives”

Faith, Trust, Courage, Obedience, and Praise

Then she added that she wished David had a 6th stone - Testimony.

She kinda lost me there with the analogy.

Her talk was fine and I know it was reviewed before she gave it.

But it just wasn’t the same caliber as Holland, Oaks, or Bednar.

Sometimes we just need a reminder to keep on the path.

The Beware of Pride talk was life changing, if one would allow it.

  9. There are some General Conference talks that are obviously inspired.

    https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1977/04/our-great-potential?lang=eng

D&C 1:38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.

Joseph Smith routinely gave us revelations in the voice of the Lord.  Ezra Taft Benson’s talk about pride is in his own voice.

The question is, do we appreciate those messages equally?
