The song (I am a child of God) was first performed at a stake Primary conference in 1957. Several years later, apostle Spencer W. Kimball asked the Primary general board if the phrase "Teach me all that I must know / To live with him someday" could be changed to "Teach me all that I must do / To live with him someday". As Kimball later explained, "To know isn't enough. The devils know and tremble; the devils know everything. We have to do something." The Primary general board accepted the change.

    OK.
The car I presently drive is third-hand. It was a government fleet vehicle, and whoever was assigned it badly mistreated it. A relative who works as a college professor bought it at a surplus auction, and trusted the auto shop students at the college he's with to maintain it... which they didn't do. He sold it to me when he upgraded to a minivan, and so for the past six years my dad (a master mechanic) and I have been troubleshooting and ferreting out problems as they arise.
One persistent problem is a gremlin in the evaporation system. If my fuel tank goes below about 75% full or it's an unusually hot day, the gremlin will cause the check engine light to pop on. This of course means I have to stop what I'm doing, pull out my code reader, and get the error code so I can see if it's the gremlin or a more serious issue. To minimize these instances, then, I try to fill my car up once a week.
I tanked up after church on Sunday since I needed to stop at that station for the Sunday edition of the Dallas newspaper and it's one of the few places in the area that still carries it. The car then sat Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as I carpooled with other people to do my errands. Thursday afternoon I go to take it to work and see a puddle on the ground. It's gasoline. I'm spooked as to what's happening, as whenever we have erratic weather of the kind we've had lately the car usually has a hose or seal crack.
Well, dad put the car up on jacks today to check it out. The source of the gas was a vent that's set up so that the car can expel gas fumes (et al) if the tank is overfilled, so somehow I simply put a little too much gas in.
To access the gas tank and everything else, however, you have to pull one of the rear tires even with the car jacked up. Since the tire was off, dad decided to check my brakes and discovered a frightening maintenance issue. Basically, the government peeps damaged the park brake, the auto shop students didn't notice the damage, and now six years of stop-and-go delivery driving has pushed the brakes to the point where failure is a real possibility.
So if not for the car belching out a little bit of excess gas in a rather worrying display, we wouldn't have known that the park brake was going out.

I really like this thought, and I'm reminded of mine own experience with this type of change myself. My parents taught me who I was as a son of God, and made it very clear I was a child (son) of God. Despite the very clear teaching it wasn't until my mission when I received personal witness/revelation that I was a "son of God." It to this day, is the most important revelation I have received outside of receiving witness of who Christ is and what he accomplished.
Enos's father was a prophet. He didn't neglect teaching his children about who Christ was, the law of Moses, and many other things, and despite all these teachings Enos still required his own personal revelation/witness.
This also reminds me of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Abraham received covenant, taught his son, and Isaac sought after the same blessing to receive it for himself. Jacob did also, they both didn't rely on the witness from their father, but they let the teachings of their father to have full sway in their hearts to seek after the blessing themselves.

Nephi’s nephew here gains a testimony, is forgiven of his sins, and learns of Jesus Christ.
I think his question, “How is it done?” is genius.
Here is my question:  Don’t you think that Enos’s father Jacob had given him all this information in detail previously?
There comes a moment in our lives when we must leave the nest, fly on our own and feed ourselves.

On the OP, I've read recently that the Lord has been offending a LOT of people in the United States.
Evangelicals call the Lord "liberal" and weak
it is interesting how the world stays the same even as it changes and advances.  The same problems during the Lord's ministry exist today and I think that if he were here today the result would be the same, those who profess to worship the Lord and are in the Churches would be some of the first to call for his crucifixion or his death.
The Lord was an extremely liberal radical during his time.  He called for things that most of the religious individuals at the time were against.  He called for forgiving others who offended you, letting your rulers rule over you and keeping your religion separate from that of Caesars.  If you accept his apostles also spoke for him, he instituted a type of socialism (called Religious Socialism by many scholars today) where all property was shared amongst those in the church community for the benefit of others.  He called for people to feed the poor and care for the sick so that none would be hungry and all would have basic necessities in a society of his.
His church called for RIGHTEOUS leaders who were married.  He called for faith and common sense.
These ideas offended those who were in power.  His ideas would tear down the more conservative ideals of the time (where church LEADERS dictated what you could do including how many steps to walk on the Sabbath, etc) which were alarmingly closely aligned to many of the ideas of today.
I think people would be surprised at HOW liberal his ideas really are.  Even today, his ideas are extremely liberal in relation to what we think in general.  In that light, the same type of people (those who were the leaders of the church at the time, those people who followed what those teachers taught) would probably call for his destruction today.
(And to be clear, when I refer to leaders of the church I am NOT referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am talking about Church leaders in general.  These would be those Pastors, Preachers, and others who teach such ideas as hatred of others today, prosperity gospels, those who teach not to help the poor and to try to stop any aid going to them, those who teach that people get what they deserve and that the poor and disabled deserve whatever has happened to them, those who argue to destroy those who don't agree with you, that teach that anger and distrust are what we should do to others because we feel they did it to us, those who teach revenge, and on and on and on in regards to what I see many who claim to be Christian are actually being taught and actually doing these days).

We have been talking about the signs of the times.  And I still recall President Nelson's admonition to take your vitamins, etc.
We now have a picture of Joseph Smith.  The original artifacts are returning to the church and I foresee more coming.
I still have a deep hope that the 116 pages will suddenly show up in someone's basement.  It is likely that parts of it were destroyed or altered but if any of the original docs remain they would be cherrished.

And there we will build a Temple to the Lord.
