  1. I've always been a big confused about this myself.
  2. This is from a website that I use frequently regarding Mormon 7:9: Mormon says if you believe the Bible, you will believe the Book of Mormon. How is it then that so many Bible lovers have rejected the Book of Mormon? Before we answer that question, let's consider the testimony of Nephi. He declared a similar doctrine: that if you believe in Jesus Christ, you will believe in the Book of Mormon, And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me (2 Ne 33:10). Based on these two prophetic statements, everyone who either believes in Christ or believes the Bible will believe the Book of Mormon. Why is it then that the Book of Mormon is summarily dismissed by most of the Christian world? The answer is because the Christian who believes the Bible but rejects the Book of Mormon doesn't believe in the Bible as much as his preacher's doctrine that there can be no other scripture or revelation. Similarly, the Christian who claims faith in Christ yet rejects the Book of Mormon does not really know the voice of the Master. For if he knew the Master, he would recognize His voice whether it came through the pages of the Bible or the Book of Mormon. Of these, the Lord said, whoso receiveth not my voice is not acquainted with my voice, and is not of me (DC 84:52), for My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me (Jn 10:27). Therefore, when a "Christian" rejects the Book of Mormon, it makes no statement about the book, but it makes a big statement about the "Christian." Bruce R. McConkie "From these passages we reach certain clear conclusions relative to believing in Christ and in his holy word. Among them are these: A belief in Christ and a belief in the Book of Mormon go together; they are locked in each other's arms; they cannot be separated. Like Ezekiel's two sticks, they are one in the hands of the Father. Those who believe in Christ also believe the Book of Mormon because it contains the words of Christ. Those who believe the words of Christ, as given by his disciples and as recorded in Book of Mormon, believe in Christ. And those who do not believe these words do not believe in him. The Book of Mormon bears witness of Christ and of the Bible; it is written to persuade men to believe in their Lord and in his ancient word. Those who believe the Book of Mormon believe the Bible, and those who believe the Bible believe the Book of Mormon." (The Millenial Messiah, p. 177) Brigham Young: "No man can say that this book (laying his hand on the Bible) is true...and at the same time say, that the Book of Mormon is untrue...There is not that person on the face of the earth who has had the privilege of learning the gospel of Jesus Christ from these two books, that can say that one is true, and the other is false. No Latter-day Saint, no man or woman, can say the Book of Mormon is true, and at the same time say that the Bible is untrue. If one be true, both are." (Journal of Discourses, 1:38)
  3. I never said that I don't have food storage together. I was speaking generally.
  4. To be honest by the time this happens there probably won't be much food to be had anyway so fasting might not be a choice.
  5. I think of the two prophets that will preach at the wall for 3 1/2 years. Then be killed and lay in the street for 3 days.
  6. I just purchased a dehydrator. I'm excited to try it out.
  7. Boy am I glad it isn't 24 per year. 12 was enough for me.
  8. I was brought up learning that as well.
  9. This question came in for Ask Gramps but not to be published on the site so I thought I'd throw it out to all of you. I'm trying to find a scripture and you guys seem pretty smart. The scripture says if a true prophet came and testified of their iniquities, the people would cast him out and say that he is a false prophet. Yet if a false prophet came and said all is well, do what you want and God will save everyone not only would the people hail him to be a true prophet but they would pay him well. Where is that? I can't remember the verse and can't find it in the topical guide. Does it sound familiar to anyone? (Jan 14th) This is just a note to me.
  10. He was a good guy. Served his mission in San Diego.
  11. Not sure what I'm missing but I'm seeing all the same things now as before. The only thing we did away with was the "featured" at the top.
  12. He posted this on the day he passed: I just don't know what else to do. I have gone to every source of help I could think of. All I got was a finger pointing somewhere else. I got lots of encouragement from well wishers, and lectures from others. I heard a lot of "what do you need?" Followed immediately by "We can't help with that." Or "There are lots of gov't programs you can look at." All the gov't programs said was "you don't qualify." The bank has spent nearly two months doing everything they could think of to not let Leigh have the last money her Grandmother wanted her to have. This after assuring us three times previous that they would fix it easily. The state took Leigh to the hospital to get her into a better long term living arrangement than I could provide. Two and a half weeks later, they brought her back with promises of support care nurses that have failed to even contact us at all. We have no money. We have no food. We will be evicted by Monday without that money. When someone is suicidal, they need company. They need to know someone cares enough to get physically and immediately involved. Well wishes and lectures don't help at all. I needed someone to come help me to shore, not shout directions and lectures for being in danger. Maybe I waited too long in my shame of failure to ask for help. My body is failing me. If I take my heart meds, I can't walk because of my bad knees and ankles. If I don't take them, I can't walk because of my heart. I'm almost out of them anyway, and with no job, insurance or money to get more, well, that's that. I have no more fight left in me. I've failed everyone that ever knew me. That's on me. I'm so very sorry for the pain I've caused. Over the past everal months I just never really felt anyone was ever truly listening to me, but instead just talking with me so eventually I would shut up and go away. So this is me, going away.

He had talked to me about it quite often.
  14. Anyone remember him? He was a very active member of the site for a long time and helped a lot with the Ask Gramps website for awhile. I realized that I had not heard from him in quite some time and found out he passed away last year. I found his obituary. 19. While every news agency out there has reported it, I've been surprised about how quiet it has been about this throughut social media.
  20. SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the company that manages its stock investments have agreed to pay a combined $5 million offer of settlement for past financial reporting practices in an order released Tuesday by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The church and its affiliate, Ensign Peak Advisors, Inc., adjusted their practices in 2019 after learning about SEC concerns and complied with rules that require them to disclose the church's entire stock portfolio in a single set of quarterly filing forms, the SEC said. They are considered to be in complete compliance. https://www.ksl.com/article/50584034/church-settles-case-with-sec-over-financial-reporting
