  1. I agree. When you lose your life serving the Lord and others, you find it. Don't be too hard on yourself. I have wondered in the past how I should feel the spirit, but eventually I figured out how it works for me. I also think back on past experiences filled with the Spirit to help strengthen my testimony.
  2. Welcome! I am an active convert of almost 5 years; I was baptized Sept. of 2004. Before becoming a Latter-Day Saint, I was Lutheran, a close cousin of Catholicism, I believe. It took me about 8 years from being introduced to the Church to being baptized. It took me that long to really decided for myself that being LDS is what I wanted in my life. It's the best decision I've ever made! I think you will find answers to questions, friends, and support here.
  3. Sorry if this was already brought up, but what about those who aren't saved by grace? OneEternalSonata, does your dad believe that God doesn't grieve for them either or is that different? I for one do believe God grieves when we sin. If He wants us to live with Him for eternity, and sin prevents us from doing that, when why wouldn't He grieve? This reminds me of a conversation my husband had with my dad about being saved by grace. It was awkward, because my dad said that we are saved by grace, and being good is our way of saying 'thank you' to Heavenly Father. My husband laughed, thinking my dad was joking. But, he wasn't, so my husband felt awkward and a little guilty. :) Kind of funny.
  4. I don't remember having "the talk" with my parents. Sex Ed in my school was in the 6th grade if I remember right. I do remember my dad telling me a few times to wait until I was married before having sex. I wasn't a member of the Church then, so I wasn't really taught why I should wait or why staying chaste is so important. Now that I have learned those things, that is what I want to emphasize the most. It's a good idea to prepare how you will discuss the physical parts of sex or conception, but don't write a script. Keep it conversational and natural. That way the discussion isn't (any more) awkward for you or your child.
  5. Welcome to the site! I hope you find comfort here. I have not been through a situation such as yours, but I know that Christ has felt your pain. Without giving away details, I am dealing with a situation right now that I never thought I would have to face. But, it's here in front of me. I have prayed for help, and the answer I have received is "Keep the Commandments." Whenever I am faced with a difficult situation, I sing "Be Still My Soul." Hopefully, this and your experience here will help you.
  6. I love the Word of Wisdom! It was a big reason why I was interested in the Church awhile back. I just love how it instructs us to take care of our bodies and connects our physical health with our spiritual health. Each one of us is responsible for taking care of our bodies. I feel as though we need to take WOW to our Heavenly Father in prayer and ask how we can apply it in our lives, because every one of us is different with different needs.
  7. I think I know the same song! I learned it when I was a Lutheran. I actually sang that part you mentioned in a Sacrament talk and in a Relief Society lesson (not in the same wards.) It it a wonderful message with a beautifully soft melody. Thanks for reminding me!
  8. This discussion reminds me of a time I met a man on a plane flying home from a vacation. I asked him what music he was listening to. He told me it was Christian Rock. "Why should the devil get all the good music?" Meaning, why should only mainstream artists have the cool-sounding songs? Why can't a Christian singer play like the popular ones? I thought about what he said after we discuss religion a little more. You know why so many people enjoy the negative messages in popular music? It's because they like the music! I've found myself dancing to music talking about drinking alcohol, going to the clubs, etc. So, why not put a Christian message in popular music? For me, the problem with pop, rock, and whatever other music you like to boogie to mixed with a message about Christ is that it takes away from the message. A song talking about Christ should also sound like Christ, soft and reverent. I particularly don't enjoy Christian Rock and the other genres. I prefer LDS artists. But, it's a preference, and I don't think you should be told you can't listen to anything else with an uplifting message.

  10. We're glad you are here! Welcome, and I hope you find what you are looking for!
  11. I have just started becoming really involved with lds.net. I'm hoping I will get to know many new people. So, to know a little bit about me, I'm a stay-at-home mom with two kids ages 3 and 1. I've been married for 3 1/2 years; my husband and I were sealed in the St. Louis Temple. My life was just about lost before I accepted the gospel. I've happily been a member of the LDS church for about 4 1/2 years. After being introduced to the Church by a high school friend, it only took me 8 years to finally decide to be baptized. :) Fear of what my family might say or do is what held me back. I'm glad to be here! I hope we will learn a thing or two from each other.
