  1. Hebrews 1: 1In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. Can someone explain this to me? I read "Mormons are following a false prophet and we know this because Jesus was the last to speak in the last days." and backed it up with this scripture. I went to mi.byu.com and have been searching online, but finding anti-mormon doctrine is unfortunately easier than finding pro-mormon doctrine. Can I get a hand here? What's going on in this scripture?
  2. Here's the secret. Don't sign up, just go haha
  3. Any Book. I have found that looking through scripture and highlighting what the spirit prompts you to always seems to answer questions for me. A book of mormon, maybe D&C, maybe the Bible. That's up to you. But I think the hardest thing is not being forceful. We can coax people into the church, but force won't help. Invite her and her husband to church, or activities with the other church families. Our ward does a walkabout, everyone has a treat at their house and everyone goes around the neighborhood visiting each house and getting a treat and just saying hello. Inviting them to things ike that would be a great start.
  4. I think you should stand as an example. I mean, she has to really want it -- if she is expecting to fail, she just might. find some great scriptures, highlight them, and give her the book.
  5. Also, a little sidetracking, but my mission pres said music is ok as long as it invites the spirit. anyone have any good ideas for that, too?
  6. Oh good idea Ben. I'll check those out!
  7. Yeah. well, it helps when you can't see the guys face doing zoolander's blue steel. Makes the coat look less cotoure haha. I have thermal garments for the cold. so hopefully that'll keep my legs warm though.
  8. Ok, since I'll be in CT it's going to be a little chilly -- I need opinions. My dad thinks a peacoat will be too faddish for the mission field, but, when I'm wearing a suit jacket and missionary clothing underneath I think it looks like a very simple coat and it'll be warm to boot cause it's wool. this is what I'm looking at: Too stylish? or would this work?
  9. Yeah, I got a letter from my mission pres. I will have to learn a little Portuguese too, which I'm very excited about.
  10. As a child of divorce (I was 12 when my parents split up) nothing my parents did seemed to be right in my eyes. I'm jealous that your children can have such trust in you. I wish I could have done the same. What I have learned though is that, even though I hated the things that happened, meaning the lawsuits cases lawyers and bull crap that went along with it, it was for my own good. I'm not a therapist, or a professional. But from my point of view, I hated it while my parent was "making" me do things, like attend church, visits, etc. But I am forever grateful because now I see what that parent was keeping me away from. Now, both of my parents are active in the church as well as their spouses. It's great. In summary; they may be angry and it may cause them some stress to see you and their mother fight. But I think that one day when they're a little older, they'll understand that you were trying to protect them and that you were doing the best you could at the time with the knowledge that you had. It's the big picture that matters. If you step back, you'll notice that it's not going to blow up as big as you think.
  11. I'm going to be spanish speaking and staying in the United States, Hartford to be exact. What can one expect, culturally? Is it really all that different? Honestly, I WANT to have culture shock when I get home.
  12. This is a sweet site I found that explains the seven last words of christ. I love it! I cried when I first read it. haha The Seven Last Words Of Christ
  13. just buy a mac? no pop-up issues here. Pop ups are adware, which are viruses. if you get popups. you have a virus.
  14. If I never came to my bishop about serving a mission, I would not be going. If I were a bishop and I was being asked that question by someone that was seemingly worthy. I'd just think they're excited. Ask him, he's the man to know. Also, when you do receive it. It's not a bad idea to keep a small bottle of oil with you. I do. It hasn't paid off yet, but I'm sure it will soon. :)
  15. I thought this was a question about physically losing it like, it's missing. I'll still add a funny story though and a little information. Two weeks ago I attended the temple (AMAZING!) and received my own endowments. On our way out, I lost my recommend. Yep, don't even worry about it, I threw it down a laundry chute. But! I learned something cool; if you do lose it it has a barcode so if you get a new one, the old one gets deactivated. Sweet! after two days of getting back to the temple and them telling me they haven't found it I interviewed for a new one. 20 minutes after I got home from having my stake pres sign my new one, the tmple called.... They found my recommend :S hahaha. THis totally has nothing to do with the question at hand. but I thought it was funny / interesting.
  16. What I don't understand is; if the Lord wants us to stay away from certain ingredients, wouldn't he just say so? I believe he is just testing us. To me, even if it doesn't have tea in it, if the drink is called "Chai Tea" I'm going to avoid it. It's as easy as substituting it for a glass of water. Do we really NEED to have that drink? We do not. I'd rather be obedient, than try to find workarounds. That's just me, of course. This was her first chai. That's why I'm even more bothered. She's made it 19 years -- I would have just said no. I had an alcohol problem, and I don't think cliff-walking would help me at all. I am impressed with your willingness to give up your coffee. It bothers me that she found a workaround. Next time though, I think my answer will be "pray, and do as the spirit directs."
  17. 1000 under BB isn't a bad deal. But I'd still stand my ground and say "I told you 8000, PERIOD." I hate car salesmen. I'm a salesman at Best Buy; I love not being paid commission because I tell people the ugly truth haha.
  18. Personally, my family doesn't have too much LDS decoration. I wish we at least had a proclamation hanging somewhere. Maybe that's what I'll get for my family before I leave.
  19. It's not a reprint. I can take a picture of each of my calls if you'd like. They're slightly different
  20. I never liked any of them when I did drink them. I hope my mission president lets me have a redbull once a month haha.
  21. Yeah, I feel bad, and also very stupid. Because I'm pretty sure her dad was sitting next to her telling her what to say to me. But, I felt I should stand my ground! My basic understanding of the word of wisdom is this: The Lord asks us not to drink Tea, Coffee, and Alcohol. I stay out of starbucks, away from liquor stores (well, now I do.), and don't touch anything that resembles any of them. Like Fake teas etc. For me, I'm an addict and I rationalize easily. I explained it to her like a hookah. Many people I know smoke hookah because it's "healthier" than cigarettes. Well, it's not. one puff, maybe. Buti t's still bad. not only that but if you do hookah, you rationalize the fact that it's better for you, thus you smoke more. So that's why I decide to just keep out of any of it anymore. ANyway, this is a long response that probably doesn't need to be this long.
  22. She just told me "Well, its nothing they'll take my recommend over." Which I thought was a little strange. She is a little naive but she's a complete sweetheart. She wouldn't disobey the Lord on purpose. But I just told her to remember if you have to ask, it's better to be safe than sorry. Personally, the statement "The Lord will not be mocked." usually scares me straight. haha. Oh how wonderful it is for us to be a God fearing/loving people.
  23. Finally got some descent shots of the truck! Took these a few days ago. People say not to bring my camera on my mission. But, I dont think I could make it without my cam.
  24. Personally I avoid anything with the word tea in it. I've done my fair share of repentance for WoW so I just try to avoid it. Anyway! I had a friend text me tonight saying someone brought her a Chai Tea tonight at work and asked if it's ok to drink it. I said "if you have to ask, no." Well her dad said "The bretheren have stated that the WoW ban on tea and coffee is specifically due to the high caffeine content. Herbal teas have always been accepted for health reasons." I have not found that article yet, but I'm searching. I did find one on energy drinks though in which it only said "the WoW does not specifically prohibit caffeine." and it said that energy drinks are best to be not consumed in excess. Ok, so it's not saying we CAN'T drink them. So that must not mean it's the caffeine that is causing the issue here. So, what do you guys think. Was I right in telling her that I really think she shouldn't have consumed it (she did after what her dad said)? or am I wrong here?
