  1. They may protect convoys or other combatish tasks. More then likely they even experienced combat through those experiences. I get what you are saying... Although they would never go on combat specific mission. Like an infantry might be sent out of the FOB to go kill a high value target. Like a Combat Engineer would clear roads of IEDS. In short, you are right, I am just getting into pointless details.
  2. Can't forget about Combat Engineers or I might be offended...
  3. Ok I see, I have to take your word on all that. I was just saying as far as the Army, they can not join as Infantry or Combat Engineer.
  4. I agree with you about a woman, generally, not being able to carry a man to safety. Jumping from planes even in a non-stress situation can make your knees, hip and back hamburger. Besides, is jumping out of a plane ever a non-stress situation? I don't think the church will ever tell us an official stance. They like to let us make our own decisions... DARN, that is how I get in trouble! You do make a really great point though! I don't think the church could officially endorse women joining the military. Not that women are not capable, just that it is contrary to some teachings. We believe that women should stay at home and rear families. They can't really do that if they go to combat. This church is a church of peace! I think we should all agree with that! If you think about it they can do almost anything! The only exception would be related to their physical limitations.
  5. Are you talking about guard duty? Aside from MPs they are not given combat assignments.
  6. There would need to be an all female company, battalion or brigade.
  7. We don't need no more Jessica Lynch situations. Don't get me wrong it was right to save her, but we can't always do that. They moved ten times quicker because a female was captured then a man. Imagine a war like Vietnam where there are many pows. It would be impossible to save every women as quick as the public expects. If it was a guy he wouldn't have been saved. Think Bowe Bergdahl...
  8. Don't worry the military doesn't think combat is a place for women either. They are not allowed to hold a Combat Specific MOS(job) like Infantry or Combat Engineer. That doesn't mean they don't get put in modern combat situations. Think like Iraq, where women sometimes had to take on Combat Roles. Even sometimes females, if they were military police, were designated to go on Combat Missions. Even then they weren't hard(comparatively to WW2, Vietnamese, Korean wars). Although most of the time they were not designated to go on Combat Specific missions. Also if we had another heavy combat war, like WWII, they wouldn't be invading Normandy.
  9. Here are some Interesting quotes and scriptures regarding the United Order: 18 And all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord’s storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church— D&C 82:18 “The fact that each steward had an equal right to draw upon the common treasury to supply the needs of his stewardship did not mean that each man could withdraw the same amount. Instead, his right to withdraw funds depended upon the size and kind of his stewardship, its legitimate needs, his demonstrated integrity and ability in managing his stewardship, and the principle of common consent.” (Hyrum L. Andrus, Doctrines of the Kingdom [salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1973], 278-280.) 19 Every man seeking the interest of his neighbor, and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God. D&C 18 ‘It was my endeavor,’ wrote the Prophet, ‘to so organize the Church, that the brethren might eventually be independent of every incumbrance beneath the celestial kingdom, by bonds and covenants of mutual friendship, and spiritual love.’ (History of the Church, 1:269)” (William O. Nelson, “To Prepare a People,” Ensign, Jan. 1979, 20–21) Gospel Doctrine
  10. That is the new version of the Law of Consecration... God seen that his people weren't ready and took the blessing of a literal Zion away.
  11. Do you have a car that exceeds your needs? Do you go on vacation? Do you buy stuff you do not need? If so, you are not giving everything you have... That is what I mean nobody is living the Law of Consecration.
  12. I think the only people I hear bear correct testimonies are children. It seems like in my ward people are scared to bear a testimony like the children. It runs through my head for sure, "if I go up and just say what I believe, a correct testimony, they might think I am like the 8 year old child who got up before me."
  13. To ram regarding Healthcare not being a requirement: From the spiritual point of view When Jesus came to the Americas before he taught the people he made sure their temporal needs were met.One of those temporal needs he met was heeling the sick. Then after the temporal needs were met he taught spiritual things. From another perspective: I just don't feel it is right to have people sick when we can afford to heal them.Just think about a dying person who could be saved with healthcare. ------------------ During the United Order they were required to give their excess back to the church. Basically the only property that was private ownership was a plot of land. That is definitely a form of communism... Even if they wouldn't have been told to give back excess it still would be Communism. The economic theory Zion goes by is communism. James, I understand that you are saying there is more to the United Order, you are correct. The United Order was political, economical and religious. That doesn't negate that fact that it was economically communist. ----------------- As far as Capitalism is concerned: People tout capitalism because they say it has never failed. Well the thing is that it is a fairly new economic theory. ANother thing is that capitalism is the most exploitable economic theory. Everybody is exploit for the dollar... You can see that by the way the wealth gap has shot up. The rich are only getting richer. If the occupy movement didn't raise awareness it would have only continued. ----------------- As far as the law of consecration in the temple: Vort, do you not think for a minute that the definition of the law of consecration changed the moment the United Order failed? Basically what I am saying is that it was in the Temple when the United ORder was going on also. The whole explanation of the Law of Consecration is about the United Order. Nobody and I repeat nobody lives up to the Law of Consecration, that would take giving everything you have. You would have nothing but your needs met. ----------------- Totalitarianism does not equal socialism Socialism is an economic theory. Totalitarianism is a political theory.
  14. I have read that the closer you are to Christ the easier it is. In my case, I must be pretty far from Christ. Some parts are harder to follow then others. Despite that I feel like God will welcome me just like everyone else. Thanks be to Christ he is mercy!
  15. I just started reading Hugh Nibley(amazing) and came across this thread. I was interested in the comment that he had a dream of going beyond the veil. Is that true? If so, can somebody tell me where to get more information about his experience.
  16. Something about reading your post strengthened my faith, thank you. As far as your question, I have no answer but somebody else will.
  17. Where is that green alien head when you need him?
  18. I had somebody, not my wife, scared to death I was going to tell her ward and my ward about the truth. The lady was so terrified she went on the offensive and made herself look silly. Telling outright ridiculous lies. Needless to say I did nothing and she ruined her own reputation. People were calling me up and trying to console me. This is not something I am proud of at all, just a matter of fact. I would just let her ramble and let your fourteen year reputation speak for itself.
  19. Seems like he is trying to make Priesthood too formal...I think Priesthood should be a time to learn and bond with brothers. He also could be trying to teach you something.
  20. Here is a shocker for everyone There could be a..... ... ... ... Democratic Communist Christian Country
  21. I was looking through an employment guide and seen some openings in Arizona. Just can't seem to remember the name. Something similar to wildlife and fishery. Good luck!
  22. Hey man, I am with the neighborhood watch do you live around here?
  23. It sounds like you are going through a hard battle HSAB. I have known people to have similar issues as you. Since I have known people have gone through it I have a love for anyone who has those struggles. I sincerely mean this, I love you and wish you the best! I can see how your garments would hurt you in your battle. Personally if it was me, I think heavenly father being a loving God would not mandate you wear them. Maybe you could only wear them when you are going to the Temple or slowly build yourself up so you can wear them. I think you should talk to your bishop about this and maybe he will understand. If he doesn't don't worry about him. I will be praying for you.
  24. My wife told me one time they are ugly and she was just being honest. Although it doesn't effect if she wears them or not. Like somebody said earlier, "you wear clothes over them." Nobody is going to see them besides you, so they do not hurt your appearance.
