  1. i'm new, but, i suppose not too new to welcome you.since i have been to mucho mucho college there are a couple of things i can say that might be of help. you have to be kind of careful because there are science classes you can take that don't transfer that well or help that much toward a degree. the first thing you will want to do is to find out what math prerequisites are necessary for the physics, etc. that are universally transferable to any college and meet the requirements for any degree. these should be the same science classes that would be necessary as pre requisites for things like engineering classes or maybe something like pre-med. another class that is good to start with is english composition which is going to be a requirement anyway again making sure that it is the one that will transfer to the 4 year college you will want to go to and fulfill that requirement. you need that because you will have to write compositions for most of your college classes. it also is good because it teaches you organizational skills. i would also recommend speech and debate as well as critical thinking (which is usually under philosophy). those should give you a good base to start from and you haven't even had to begin to think about what you want to do. i have been reading a good book lately called achieving your life mission. it's a great book and should be available at deseret book. anyway, welcome and hope some of what i've said will be useful. p.s. i would also recommend starting at your local 2 year college because it's cheaper and you can get the basics out of the way there. beside that, going to a university straight out of high school is a big jump, and that makes for a nice transition. oh and almost forgot--unless you are really already very computer literate and good with microsoft office applications, it would probably be a good idea to take a beginning computer class that teaches computer basics and how to use microsoft office applications.
  2. sounds kind of familiar. in 73 when i was almost 19, someone i knew who was a fellow marine asked me if i wanted to go to church. feeling very lost in a world that seemed to only offer opinions and little in the way of answers i really took to what i found in the church. 6 months later i met my wife at a church dance...well she wasn't my wife then, but about 8 months later we were married in the los angeles temple.
  3. hey, i like that term for use in reference to our past forum home: (the) "other place" as in "he went to the other place".
  4. Thanks for answering that. It is most interesting.
  5. sorry you got that impression about what i was saying regarding the part feelings play in our communications with God. I only meant to see that it was understood that feelings were not excluded as a means that God is able to communicate with us from an lds perspective and to find out more about how that sort of things is viewed from a Jewish perspective.
  6. hi thekabalist, i had a couple of questions that have been floating around in my head of late about judaism. in the lds church we believe that we can pray we can receive revelation from God about things that are pertinent in our lives and we believe that it can be through feelings. I was wondering if Judaism worked similarly or ?. Also, as you probably know, those of us lds who have been endowed in the temple wear what is known as the garment of the holy priesthood that is worn under our clothing. Someone told me once that orthodox Jews also have some type of a garment that is worn that has religious significance. Is that true and is it something you can tell me about? thanks
  7. wouldn't it be more applicable if the bible had a statement to the effect: and the mouth of God was silenced forevermore. ? i always found it interesting that scriptures like these were used in the effort against the church when at the same time you will see some of those same people passing papers that are so called prophecies from so called prophets around in their churches with great enthusiasm.
  8. wow, keith. and i was mad because i wondered around this earth for only 18 years without anyone telling me about the church.
  9. Q: where does a school of dolphins go to meet? A: in the multi-porpoise room. (i made that one up) Q: did you hear about the man who got the whole left side of his body blown off? A: He's all right now. (my favorite joke-didn't make it up, though)
  10. thank you, yes, i joined the church in 73
  11. I saw that smiley face; you trying to insult me?
  12. He's awesome! He posted one item about "it came to pass" that knocked my socks off.
  13. You too, Zech?! woo hoo! Hey, did thekablist make it over?
  14. Hey Ran, Is that really, you? It feels like moving into a new ward and seeing an old friend.
  15. Hi All, I was posting on a forum that is operated by mainstream Christians that had a way of stacking the deck against the Latter-day Saints. I was kicked off a few times because I wouldn't always let them get away with the malarkey of the hard core enemies of the Church(who, of course, usually said they weren't) who posted there. I found it to be an exercise in futility. I won't go into the details, but I did learn that the best thing to do with those kinds who don't have serious questions is to not waste your time. The unfortunate thing I found was that most of the time when new folks would show up was that they would pretend to be interested in having questions answered only to find they were wolves in sheep's clothing. Recognizing there is opposition in all things, I hope to find something better here.
