  6. to the OP: me I probably would be able to do an animal sacrifice if required... Altho if it were my pet I doubt it. But then Abraham was commanded to sacrfice his own son, altho he was saved from having to complete it... And greater still: God- he did not prevent the sacrifice of his Son. Are we greater than he? That being said (and having only read most of the first page) I would like to point something out; How do we know that said offering and sacrifice must be an animal? When christ fulfilled the law, the principle of sacrifice was not done away with- what was required for the sacrifice was, instead of using lambs and etc.. we must do the more difficult sacrifice; a broken heart and a contrite spirit... To give up our pride, our sins, our wants, our desires for God.
  7. as long as you're very serious about it I don't think so - we are told to pray over practically everything, and some people develop a strong bond with an animal companion that they love.Just my opinion tho, I don't know for sure.
  8. I don't see anything there, letter of the law wise that would exclude him from the temple... but this would be tough. I would ask him how he feels his worthiness to enter the temple is... and then if he believes he is worthy (on top of all the other qualifying questions) to enter the temple I don't see anything right off the bat that would prevent me from giving the recommend. If he says that there are thigns that makes him feel unworthy then we would go over those point by point if necessary. I imagine that the most likely outcome would be putting off the recommend for a little while and give him a challenge to meet. I think if I knew about this individual beforehand to have assigned effective home teachers to visit him or do something to find out a little more about his situation.

  13. I think the church's position is quite similar to yours. When an afflicted child was brought to Jesus he was asked which parent sinned that he (the child) would be afflicted thus? His answer was neither. Also, we cannot justly be held accountable for things which we have no control over. We also believe that were are given stumbling blocks to humble us, and also that one way of showing faith is to do what we can (in this case it would be visiting the doctors, getting the right meds and etc..) as well as inquiring of God for help.
  14. No it's not a pre-req, however it is taught to dress in respectful manner as we believe when we gather together as followers of Christ his spirit will be with us, and when we worship God that we draw near unto him.No one should ask you about your clothes (unless its really immodest or something, in which case it should be one of the leaders). Currently a suit and tie is generally what is viewed as both respectful and professional attire, and also provides a unity of sorts. If you don't have a suit and tie that isn't a problem one bit, just come dressed in respectful manner.... if i was in your shoes, for me that would mean clean clothes, subdued colors, no holes. I know that in various wards i have had men offer to let me use an an extra tie they brought to church if I didn't have one on.. so you could probably get help in that regards... and if you'd really like to use a suit, ask around see if anyone knows anybody who has one that they'd be willing to let you borrow.
  15. To the OP; gaming can be very addicting, so be careful... Is it right or wrong? not in and of itself, anymore than money or taking walks, or many other things. But, it is very easy to let things slide and let them consume your time over better things. Another thing to watch is checking your mental state after you play- do you feel angry, what do you talk about, and etc... if it's things that mainly revolve around games and specifically one or two games then you may want to reevaluate it. FOr instance I do like to do a lan party every once in a while (generally with first person shooters), but I don't like that talk that occurs afterwards (all the talking about who killed who and stuff like that is reather disturbing when you sit back and think about it), so i'm trying to always shift focus do a different type of game when we do lan parties.
