It makes me sad that there are so many members that think they need to have a gun to feel safe.  I have never ever carried, nor have I ever had the desire to carry.  How many mass shootings have there been?  How many have been stopped by people with a concealed weapon?  Next to zero.
If someone open fires in sacrament meeting, the chance of you hitting an innocent person when trying to shoot the gunman are tremendously high.  Then the next thing that happens is that people won't know if you are part of the mass shooting either.
The best option is to rush the person and tackle the person.
I am not anti-gun.  I don't care if they are in the church or not.  But I feel sad for those who think they need to carry.  It is not a lens through which I would want to view life.
God knows what is going to happen.  If God wants that gunman stopped, that gunman is going to be stopped.

To me, this seems similar to the arguments that some BYU students make when they complain that the Honor Code restricts their agency.

I'm not a lawyer, but I imagine it would be a pretty silly lawsuit.  You aren't required to be on private property.

Looking at the statistics that were shared, the chances of getting killed by a gun jump significantly when a Brit comes to the US.  I can understand the hesitance. It's like swimming at one beach and then going to swim with friends at another beach where shark attacks are 3-4 times more likely.  Still very small, but worth noting.

I pray on it and look at the consequences of each choice, both short and long term, the likelihood of those consequences, then decide whether to sustain and Prophet or not, accepting whatever consequences that may come as a result.
I can't think of a time I've chosen not to follow the Prophet, but I've only been a member for 613 days, so what do I know.

Oh, I don't necessarily think it's bad policy.  But the Handbook is absolutely from Man, seeking to do God's will.  It's not scripture, it is not comprised of words breathed from the mouths of prophets who are saying "thus saith the LORD - guns are prohibited in church".  New scripture like that gets revealed over the pulpit at General Conference and submitted for a sustaining vote.
I don't usually struggle between stuff our church leaders say, and my own opinions about how to do right.  The last fifty times they were in conflict, the obvious answer was for me to bend and change.  This one is slightly less obvious.  I mean, I really, REALLY think I'm right this time.  So I'm struggling.

If I identify as an off-duty cop does that mean I can still carry at church?

I served in the army during the Vietnam conflict.  I qualified as "expert"; that is most difficult with an M1.  I also spent several years working as a contractor for the "defense department" on several "advanced" weapon systems.  If necessary I can protect my family with a firearm - or other weapons.  I have come to believe that a righteous priesthood holder that prefers the powers of the priesthood over the armaments of men to protect his family is not a coward.   A coward is someone that is not concerned with others - only themself.

As a woman, a firearm on you makes it so that if anything happens, you can be on equal footing with those stronger than you who wants to hurt you.  Of course, the idea that you can live your life day after day without being put in a position that you have to defend yourself from violence is a privilege held by a few elite people in the world such that relying on other people to defend you is the equivalent of having the privilege of a maid cleaning your toilet.

From what I understand in the US, most shootings occur in places where bringing a gun is denied.  Thus, it seems the easiest way to invite a shooter to shoot people in your area is to make it a no-gun area.
However, the HB is the HB.

This is selfish of me, but I enjoy the stories.
This probably comes from having wards where sometimes we sit for quite a while.
Testimonies normally are to be short and too the point, but I also enjoy the stories from time to time.  It's far more interesting to hear a testimony related that way than the same few phrases stated over and over again.
The only time I'm slightly bothered is when we are running short on time and it is obvious there are multiple people who wish to bear there testimonies and one person tries to take up the remaining time all on their own.

I have eleven children.  Original plan was four but I’m an over-achiever.
When people ask me if I know what causes that, I respond: I guess not, but my wife and I do the research daily. 😀
The wife saw Saturday’s Warrior as a young lass and the teachings stuck.
She did try the BCP early in our marriage, while she was in Law School and I was a decathlete / nutrition major.  She had horrible side effects and we stopped.
We know the doctrine and although there were times when I might have panicked, we looked forward to each new addition to the family.
The last 5 births were all done at home, with a pocket-knife and 2 cable-ties.
Looking back on our life we made the right decisions, except we should have trusted the Lord and never even considered the BCP in the first place.

I asked her for more specifics but I doubt she’ll respond. She knows I have different viewpoints from hers. My guess is there were mistakes made/ appointments missed, either due to work schedules or bad lawyers or language barriers. Could be the offices are run by inept folks. Or simply the  adults taking everything casually and thinking they’d just do it later. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s one of the workers in my friends’ business.
I don’t think she is interested in those things. Only that the parents are being separated from their children. But the same thing happens to parents who are American citizens if they break the law. So... 🤔

"Hey guys, know what we need? Somebody who actually lives in Maryland and has spent a lot of time in Baltimore... Where, oh where can we...  "
@Godless's info is over 40 years old.  Well I've lived here my whole life.  Let's talk about Maryland in 2019.
I live in a suburban area almost exactly halfway between Baltimore and Washington, DC.  Don't let that fool you, I ain't far from either.  if I jumped into my car right this second I could be in either city within 20 minutes.  Not long ago I worked at Johns Hopkins University.  Most days, my route to work took me right through the neighborhood where Freddie Gray was picked up.  That would be West Baltimore.  There's a rat problem, friends, and the citizens of Baltimore are not oblivious to it.  It's so bad you can buy one of those oval bumper stickers here that's got a picture of a rat on it, and it's pretty popular.

When Democrat politicos complain about the rat problem, everybody nods solemnly.  When Trump calls it out he's a racist.  Well, call me racist for agreeing with him but I'm not the one who apparently associates rats with black people.  That would be Mr. Cummings.
West Baltimore is a disgrace and you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in a war torn city if you drove through it.  Many of the famous row houses are empty, abandoned and boarded up.  As of now, more of them are vacant than occupied.  They've also been collapsing.  Drink when you see a row house that's caved in and has buttress timbers supporting the walls of the adjacent rowhouses.  You'll be passed out drunk before you reach I-95.  By night, the blue lights of the Baltimore PD crime cameras provide plenty of light but they only exist on the larger streets.  The backstreets and alleys are filled with drug dealers, prostitutes and... rats.  Count the rats you see on Wilkens between South Carey Street and Camden.  Go ahead.  You may need a piece of paper to keep from losing count.
East Baltimore is only marginally better, but that's because the people who live around the park tend to be more middle class affluent but as you go further eastward toward 695 the houses get smaller, poorer, and it starts looking like the West side.  The roads are crazy bumpy (or maybe that was a rat) but hey, at least the income from the strip clubs keeps the area ever so slightly nicer.  (fewer boarded up rowhouses.)
Donald Trump is exactly right and the feigned outrage is coming from Democrats who are just mad that somebody is shining a light on their failed economic policies that have left more than one U.S. city as a devastated ruin.  (Baltimore is the sequel.  Detroit is the first.) "Charm City" stops being charming about 3 blocks form the Inner Harbor and everybody knows it but heaven forbid we say so because Democrats can do no wrong, baby.  Of course, things will only get worse now that we have casinos.  There's a big one, the Horseshoe, right on the place where 295 goes into the city past Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium (where the Ravens play).  Oh boy, now we have a region in economic distress with yet another pointless money sponge.  I guess the heroin dealers needed SOME kind of competition.  Think the taxes the state collects from those casinos is gonna help?  Keep dreamin'.  Not when there's votes to buy.
Again, Trump wasn't wrong.  Maybe it was bad form for him to say it the way he did, but to be honest, I don't see any other way to get attention on the issue.  The people of Baltimore have been trying to get help with this for years.  Trump didn't create the problem, but to hear the media tell it, you'd think he rolled up to Baltimore with an 18 wheeler full of rats and released them into the city.
Oh, and a quick note about why Dems are okay with illegals... Think it's about drug money?  Are you kidding me?  Remind me again which party is pushing for legislation to allow non-citizens to vote?

Late to the party again. Not all of Baltimore is that bad but there are sections I would stay out of after sunset. Really rough! But same goes for all big cities . But here’s this:

Apparently not, but my house needs a do over, another heat/humidity wave is upon us, my beautiful 16 yr old daughter just started driving and dating whereas my beautiful 22 yr old needs a date that will commit and not flake out like 99% of BYU boys  and it took DH 2 hrs to commute to work this morning due to a fatal accident on the road he drives and my oldest daughter with 4 sons is expecting and desperately wants a girl but decided not to find out on the ultrasound resulting in 3 more agonizing months to find out and another pregnant daughter has high blood pressure and is due to deliver our first granddaughter in 6 weeks and my son just gave up a cushy job at microsoft to work for amazon and my other son is in a boring rotation in medschool and can't find a nice non-LDS girl to date and my 15 yr old daughter is resisting piano lessons to hone her natural talent and the new puppy keeps piddling on the floor and i need to figure out what I'm going to do when I grow up because I just hit another milestone birthday  and am done with living in the DC area because of all the drama and some very liberal neighbors and just want to retire in a cabin in the woods with mountain views and cool lakes and rivers and without ticks, snakes or poison ivy.
What is going on in China and Russia? As long as AOC  and Omar and Rapinoe aren't headlines, I'm relieved. But then Trump offended another Black senator with his tweets, so there's that.  Did someone say something about a vacuum?
