I should add that the problem I have with the quote is that Brigham seems to be saying that if you don't love your spouse now you will automatically love them in the after life because we'll be perfect. There seems to be a paradox and a contradiction there. It seems to be contrary to the doctrine that we'll be raised with all the passions, feelings, tendencies and knowledge we have when we left the world. The paradox I see is how can we not love them, and everyone else after we are perfected if the attribute of perfect love is not found in us at that point? And would our inability to either accept, or reject the sealing in the afterlife void our agency? Wasn't our agency a rather large sticking point for some in the pre mortal world? Or have I just been awake too long?

Yeah, but Brother Brigham also said in the journal of discourses that there were people living on the moon. I wouldn't believe everything in the JD. If it were in any of the Standard Works though it would be a different story.

For he knoweth all things, and there is not anything save he knows it." There are no exceptions to that truth. "He knoweth all things! Except who our parents would be, the choices we would make in life, whether or not we would make it back to Him, and what kind of car we would drive." It doesn't work like that. He knows EVERYTHING.

Hey OP, do you mean 2 Nephi 9:8? 1 Nephi 9:8 doesn't exist... Anyhoo... I'm not too sure about that. Alma 42:5: "For behold, if Adam had put forth his hand immediately, and partaken of the tree of life, he would have lived forever, according to the word of God, having no space for repentance; yea, and also the word of God would have been void, and the great plan of salvation would have been frustrated." He would have lived forever in his sins, not being able to repent. He would have been miserable forever, not being able to repent. He would have been immortal - still possessing a body, but under the power of the devil, miserable forever and angles to a devil forever. If it was as simple as needing a body to overcome Satan the Lord God would not have placed cherubim and the flaming sword, that he should not partake of the fruit. Take the fruit - immortal - done. We need to die. Without it there is no repentance, for there would be no need to do so. Without repentance there is no forgiveness. Without forgiveness you remain in your sins. To remain in your sins is misery. It's all in Alma 42.

Serious question: In one post you say you are not a member, yet in another post you say you want to get out as though you were "in" and a member. So which is it?

I added the bold, but you can easily see that one of the root causes of all of their sins was pride. I'm in that exact boat, but I am one of the children. I will be able to continue an eternal parent/child relationship with both of my natural parents on the other side of the veil even if they live in different mansions. I have no interest in a relationship with my step-mother.

There is no foot note or addendum in that passage of scripture that says, "Unless you have been sealed to your parents. Then you are good to go." Laman and Lemuel had a righteous father to which I am sure they either were sealed or have been/will be at some point, but they were wicked and must pay the price. Mercy cannot rob justice, neither can being sealed to parents.

Well, I have to disagree with that. I haven't held a temple recommend for over 6 years, yet I was able to purchase a whole bunch of new garments for my wife and myself recently. All without a recommend. At the temple. They asked for my recommend when I was checking out. I said I don't have one. They asked for my drivers license and looked up my info gave me the garments and sent me on my way. Again - you do not need to have a current recommend in order to buy garments.

More than one prophet has testified to the fact that Satan can influence our minds and thoughts: "The scriptures make clear that the adversary cannot know our thoughts. “Yea, I tell thee, that thou mayest know that there is none else save God that knowest thy thoughts and the intents of thy heart” (D&C 6:16). The scriptures also make clear, however, that Satan can influence our thoughts and actions by putting ideas into our minds and hearts."

Scriptural record would indicate that he can in fact place thoughts in our minds. How else would he tempt us? Neon signs? For he (Satan) hath put into their hearts to do this...

+1 If those things are difficult, pray for strength, you'll get it. And if you do those things everything else will fall in to place naturally, I guarantee it. It might take a while, years even, but just keep it up. It worked for me. 1) Read scriptures daily (even one verse) 2) Pray at least twice daily (short and sweet still counts) 3) Attend church (vital, even fast and testimony meeting )
