  1. Congratulations Bini & family....Your story is similar to mine in that I became inactive for 30 years but felt a great tug in my heart to return to full activation 10 years ago. I left behind my habits (words of wisdom) issues and returned with my head up. This is why we go to church....to partake of the sacrament and renew the covenants we made when we were baptized, not one of us are perfect but we are all equal in the eyes of the Lord. It matters not where you are on the strait & narrow path as long as you are on it. When we(in-actives) left the church, our HF and our parents would have been disappointed but would never have locked us out of their home or be excommunicated from our Church; what kind of loving parent would do that do their child. Read the parable of the Prodical Son in the Bible. Your dad would have shed tears of joy when he was able to bless his grandaughter last Sunday. You have made the best decision of your lives and pray you will have a kind & caring Bishopric and members in your ward. Just remember, no one is there to judge you for none of us are worthy to take upon the judgement of others. There is only one who has paid the ultimate price who will be the judge for all mankind. I'm very happy for you....may you find peace and comfort as you embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ in your lives and strive to one day go to the temple to be sealed as a family. I just did a few months ago....I waited a lifetime for this joyous moment.
  2. Thank you for your beautiful testimony....I too am a convert and love to read testimonies of new members. Knowing that families can be together forever brought me such joy and I'm sure the day will come when you will enter into a temple to be sealed for time and eternity. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is perfect and will bring us unimaginable blessings as we remember the covenants made when we were baptized. So happy the Lord left His ninety-nine and went after the one......each and every soul is precious to the Lord!
  3. Welcome to the LDS faith PrincessAllie91: The Book of Mormon broadway Hit has made quite the Headline News, probably around the world and I believe people were waiting to see a backlash by the LDS Church but were once again there was none. This is the message given to the media by the First Presidency of the Church.... "The production may attempt to entertain audiences for an evening, but the Book of Mormon as a volume of scriptures will change peoples lives forever by bringing them closer to God." This only piqued the interest of those who are looking to find the Church of Jesus Christ and answers to their questions in a troubled world. Critics and opposition who oppose this work only advertise it. People are always trying to find ways to stop this work from rolling forward and the harder they try the faster the Church grows. They have not yet learned that to critize & oppose this work is to advertise it. I wouldn't go see this Broadway Hit if someone bought me tickets and plane fair but this is just who I am. We are all different and we do have agency. I always ask myself..."What would Jesus do if He were here? Would he go see this Broadway Show? I know through the Holy Spirit what my answer is and I would do nothing to offend the Savior and His work on earth for He gave His very life for me....for all of His brothers and sisters.
  4. God bless the child who was raped and may all involved in any way be given the maximum sentence by law! Sick, sick and warped people in this wicked world! If I even suspected an atrocity like this was taking place in the place I work I would be like a dog after a bone and would not rest till this matter was brought to light.....shame on them that turned a blind eye to this as they will meet their maker on judgement day. Repentance is their only way out of this mess; the Atonement is for all who are willing to approach the Lord with a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
  5. Oh , wait.....and we must all become politically correct as we certainly would not want to offend anyone. Holiday tree, Happy Holidays.....I think not......my Christmas tree is up and merry Christmas to one and all!
  6. I can feel your enthusiasm and excitement....congratulations! You will make an awesome missionary. I vaguely remember a sister in R/S asking for donations of blankets and warm jackets for somewhere in Peru as apparently the nights can get quite cold....I hope I've got this right!!!!
  7. Nice to meet you MagniticField.......I am an LDS convert to the Church. I live in Canada and by no means am well read in scriptures but will offer the only advice I can, which comes from the heart! It sounds to me like the Lord really loves you and through the Holy Ghost you are experiencing a change of heart. Understand where these feelings are coming from....pray about them, there are no such things as coincidences in our lives but God knows each of us personally, he knows what is in your heart. Our Lord and Savior came to this earth as our Savior for he knows what the natural man is all about and that we are all sinners.....yes, even all of us who attend church......this is why we go each Sunday to renew our covenants we made with Him when we were baptized. We all have things we need to repent of.....this is what Christ did in the Garden of Gethsemane; he took all our sins, pains, sorrows, afflictions, stress, worry etc upon himself for each and everyone of us born to this earth, from the very beginning to the end, and such was His pain and anguish that He bled from every pore. We need to put our full trust in the Lord and ask forgiveness then move forward with an eye single to the glory of God and these sins and transgressions will be blotted out and He will remember them no more. It's never too late to make this change and move forward with the truthfulness of His Gospel by having Faith, REPENTANCE, baptism, by one who has the authority to do so in Jesus name, receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands....by those who once again have the priesthood authority to do this in Jesus name and then finally to endure to the end. This is when we will need a testimony to know the truthfulness of the Gospel as it has been restored once again to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost for he testifies of this truth and you will know these things to be true. Read the Book of Mormon and seek an answer of it's truths by praying mightely unto the Lord for confirmation and you will receive your answers you are looking for. I had a little chuckle where you wrote that "Mormon" women stay home for many are told that this is true.......this is not always the case for in failing economic times many women have had to go to work to help support the families. Ideally this would be the perfect situation for mothers to stay home and raise the kids....be the nuturers and the fathers to be the bread winners and support the family but times have changed drastically. The world is in a very sad state. I wish you well and please keep us informed of what is happening in your life as it is so wonderful for me to finally feel free of guilt and enjoy the joy and blessings HF has promised to all who follow His counsel! We all need to look at our lives and get out of the mindset that all is well....eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow ye shall die......this is Satan's lie.....we all return back from where we once came in the Spirit world and will await the great day of judgement. Do not get caught up in Satan's lies for he is the great deceiver....Jesus paid the ultimate price for all of us and redeemed us from all Sin!
  8. I can feel a change coming of late....it's happening slowly but the tide is turning and brings me joy. The Prophet is the Lord's mouthpiece and has been giving sound advice to all the Saints around the world. Love your enemies, even those that hate us and persecute us......in otherwords, turn the other cheek and don't seek retaliation, turn to these people with truthfulness and love....express who we are in a peaceful way as the truth will always prevail. Satan will eventually lose this battle. I was fearful how the broadway musical on "Mormonism" would affect the Saints but it now looks like the membership will increase as the result of all the publicity and how it was handled by the Presidency of the LDS Church.
  9. Yes, I have certainly experienced this change and I'm excited to see the positive changes that are coming about. I can testify to these changes as they are happening in my home. I was the only active member in my family and kept a low profile because I didn't want to embarrass my husband or children about the joy I felt being a member of the LDS Church. The advise that was always given was to just love them and eventually they might have a change of heart. It's taken many years but dh was baptized last year, and we are going to the Temple to be sealed. My family is thinking of making a trip with me to BYU next summer and they love the Young Ambassadors (grandchildren love the dancers), so they are excited to see them also. They also have huge respect for the Education and Arts programs in the church and the Humanitarian Services helping others around the world, regardless of religious affiliation.....the good things now outweigh the bad things they have seen or read about. These youth are such a fine example of what we should be as LDS. It does matter how we present ourselves to the world as we are being carefully scrutinized. We know who wins this battle and that's what is important and why we need to speak with boldness. My dad used to always say "I don't want anyone of you,( his kids) or my friends and family to come to me on the otherside and say 'why didn't you tell me; you had the truth and didn't tell me!" We don't have to threaten or preach to anyone, we just have to share the message of hope, that God lives, Jesus is His Son, we are all God's children and He wants us to all come home!
  10. Since wine is made from grapes I substitute grape jelly in some recipes, including spaghetti sauce. It's very good. I make my own grape jelly from beet juice....it's in my recipe book from our Stake and tastes exactly like grape jelly.:)
  11. Welcome.......you have the right attitude....I'm learning more all the time and look for the positive and try to stay clear of negativity....it gets us nowhere! I always look for the light and try to stay away from the darkness. This Gospel is so wonderful and should bring us nothing but joy in our lives. Contention is not of the Lord but is of Satan...he is miserable therefore he wants us to be miserable as well. Look forward to reading your posts!:)
  12. I guess I am from the old school but one of the reasons I joined the LDS Church was for the standards they have set.....including how we dress when we attend Church. The missionaries have set a fine example around the world by the white shirts and suits they wear....this sets them apart; what if they chose to change the standards and wear....say jogging clothes as they would be much more comfortable. How about all those who volunteer their time and efforts in clean-up wearing the yellow t-shirts....Mormon Helping Hands....they are setting an example of who we are as LDS, that these workers can be trusted and easily recognized. It shows respect for the work they are doing in sharing the Gospel. If these standards make us stand out as being different then I am all for it! The prophet and all those who serve with him have set these standards...we can choose to follow his counsel or go about doing what we want...we all have our agency and I am not here to judge anyone; thankfully the Savior will do this for us. It's not about how expensively you can dress.......there are thrift stores where you can get clothing very cheaply. You can buy skirts or a dress if you don't have one; It's all about respect......how would we feel about our attire if the Savior came to our Church? It will never come down to what will keep us out of the Celestial Kingdom but I would put our "attitude" at the very top of the list! It doesn't bother me if new female members come in a pair of slacks or even if a guy has long hair or even if someone smells of alcohol or tobacco....I would welcome them to sit beside me as only Jesus knows what is in their hearts......I'm referring to those who have been attending church for years.....they should know better. We as LDS are being very carefully watched by those who are looking to find answers in their lives and want something different than the run of the mill....wear what you want, do what you want, bring your cup of Tim Hortons if you want for this is happening to many churches and their numbers are falling, not increasing!
  13. Yeah, I know what you mean. I think I would have been very happy living with a wood burning cook stove and would have liked to own a wringer washer, with clothes hanging on the line but having said that, as a baby-boomer I believe some of the very best years were in the fifties and sixties......way more laid back and not all the technology such as cell phones, texting, Ipods, computers and the list goes on and on. Kids don't know how much fun they are missing as we used to play outside from morning till dusk...we didn't even take the time to watch T.V. Different world we are living in today.
  14. The Lord has a way of gathering His lost sheep! It sounds like you are making wise choices and you have a wonderful husband who loves you. I concur with the other posters.....sit down with your husband and explain about your dream and the positive changes that are coming into your life as the result of following your heart. Take small steps.....line upon line, precept upon precept.....I'm sure your husband, being a good man, will understand and his heart may soften towards the LDS Church. I was married before being baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and my husband never had a problem with my membership or having our children baptized when they turned 8 years of age. I waited for 48 years with patience and long suffering and finally, due to sickness caused by lifestyle he had a mighty change of heart and was baptized just last year.....we are now preparing to go to the Temple to be sealed. Never give up....prayers are answered in the Lord's time, not ours.....He knows what is in your heart. Put your full trust in the Lord and watch how miracles can happen in your life as you strive to become more like Him. Talk to your Bishop....you will feel angels surrounding you when you need help and listen carefully to the promptings of the Holy Ghost....you will have joy and peace in your life.
  15. Welcome Mike: I'm a new member of this LDS.Net as of today and look forward to reading the posts and participating whenever I find the time. The posts I read today were outstanding by all participants whether LDS or other Religious affiliations....very civil and respectfully done which I appreciate.....contention is not of the Lord! Went on a LDS Church history tour in 2009.. Went through parts of New York....so very beautiful in the areas we toured.:)
