    Actually, I think local loans would create some level of @LeSellers organic standardization. The Church, through the Perpetual Education Fund, maintains several local lists of approved schools. You don't get a loan unless your school is on that list. The Church plans on getting its money back. They want you to succeed in school and work because that builds your self-sufficiency. Local institutions that are giving out loans will do so on a similar basis. It can't be handled the way college loans are now where you and I are loaning people money simply on the basis that they got accepted into a(ny) college. I would never make that loan personally, I resent the government making it on my behalf.

    Now you've got me curious. Would it be cheaper for me to 1) file jointly, or 2) pay full taxes as a single person, but have my wife (and thus household) receive the same subsidies a single mother with no income.
    Getting the government out (I'm with @anatess2 on this one, but I'm humoring the argument) would have to include an overhaul of the related tax laws and other federal benefits.

    That's hitting below the belt. This is the only issue I can think of that might possibly convince me to vote for Donald Trump.

    When I turned 12 my parents got me a set of scriptures complete with a carrying case. My Sunday school teacher saw me bring them to class and asked "New scriptures?"
    Me: "Yup"
    Teacher: "Is it a 4-in-1"?
    Me: "No, it's in English."

    That's easy.  The serious answer is I would feel tenderhearted towards these people.  After all, we all have sins, and there theirs are right out there in the open to see.  They don't even get the relief of having them be semi-private like mine.
    The also serious answer, is I'd start a campaign to feed them juicy things to talk about, and see how far I could go with it before it finally dawned on them that no, I'm not really a homosexual in the witness relocation program for ratting on LGBT leadership ties with the Democratic party, and my "wife" is both my FBI handler and the church's local contact with the Colorado arm of the Sicilian mafia.  I would absolutely enlist my daughter in this endeavor, and give her free reign, just this once, to make up the coolest lie she can think of, and milk it for all it's worth with these people.
    And while I was at it, I'd include one of my more heinous embarrassing sins, and reap the blessings of confessing publicly.  Ain't my problem if nobody believes it.

    @flameburns623
    It is funny that you suggested I look over Planted, since I previous quoted from that exact book in this thread to address one of your posts. Yes, it and other books are wonderful in addressing concerns of doubt. I'm sorry if you feel I need a bit more insight or empathy when it comes to those who have had a faith crisis, but I assure you as one who personally went through a faith crisis years ago, I have plenty of empathy for the situation. All of my comments that proceeded were solely to address what seemed like "I left the church over a scheduling conflict with my job". That statement was the one that triggered all of my responses, and has been the issue I have been seeking to address.
    IF you are saying you had a faith crisis and didn't leave the church because of "work" but rather you left over: disbelief, doctrine concerns, lack of faith, church history, doubts of the gospel, etc. THEN perhaps you may have perceived a bit more empathy in my statements. I would have approached your situation differently had you simply said "I went inactive because of a faith crisis" vs. a work scheduling issue.
    Just a point of reference, typically when I write on the forum I am writing for both you/OP AND for the benefit of others in your shoes who may come and read this thread later on down the road. I share ideas and suggestions so that they realize there are alternatives and avenues of hope they may follow instead of simply going inactive. Experiencing a faith crisis is not a required step in life's journey. For some it is, and many others it simply isn't.
    Ultimately Flameburn623, I do have empathy for you and your situation and truly wish you the best!! Be blessed as well!

    When I asked Jesus to come into my life and take it over, as I repented of my sins, did I not die? When I was baptized, burying 'the old man,' did I not die? There is a sense in which we cannot fully live for Christ until we have first died to ourselves. THEN, if martyrdom beckons it is merely the completion of a long-settled 'covenant.'

    This is the down side of the whole See Something/Say Something program.  You get false alarms from people who don't understand what they are seeing.  This lady, as requested, reported something that to her understanding appeared wrong. Leading to a series of events that the article describes.  Had the Lady been correct she would have been labeled a hero against terrorism...  But since she was wrong.. well you have people judging her as some kind of racist.  Where as all we really know about her is she tried to do what she was asked to do.
