Every nation's people draw the line between liberty and safety in different times, for different reasons.  You wouldn't see this much yelling if this was happening in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.   To me, the news isn't between liberty/privacy and safety, but is about a government's ability to demand a business spend money and resources to do what the govt wants it to do.

That explains the other evening when I offered you some ribs like I saw once on Downtown Abbey.
You replied, "Thanks! Let me get my sanitary towels and I'll dig in!"

So because Paul and Joseph Smith talked about the heavens using the sun, the moon, and the stars as symbols, therefore the sun, moon, and stars are strictly figurative and don't exist in reality?

2/3 retention is the general trend across the US for LDS families.

You mention a trend away from marriage - this is the case across the US. And although we lead the way in a culture of marriage, we aren't doing as well as we were 7 years ago.

And since you mention birth rates, I'll toss this one into the mix as well:

How likely is it that the new appointee(s) will get asked JaG's question?
Name one ruling you gave in the last 5 years that you found particularly distasteful, but felt compelled to give based on standing law.

I notice that you commonly include an apostrophe when writing Obama's name. Just curious: Do you think that he is Irish? Or is this a mere mockery of his name? I am hoping it is not the latter. I am very far from an Obama fan, but making fun of someone's name seems a particularly puerile level of insult.

mordorbund reacted to pam in Church issues "Cautious Approach" on Medical Marijuana Issue in Utah
As the Utah State Legislature considers two bills on the use of medical marijuana, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has issued the following statements outlining its position.

Church Statement Issued Friday, February 12, 2016

While we are not in a position to evaluate specific medical claims, the Church understands that there are some individuals who may benefit from the medical use of compounds found in marijuana. For that reason, although the Church opposes SB 73, it has raised no objection toSB 89. These two competing pieces of legislation take very different approaches when it comes to issues like access, distribution, control and the potential harm of the hallucinogenic compound, THC.

I think discussion is more important in this case though. Walk through the verses with him and see which parts make sense and which parts take some pondering. I don't think the answers are particularly important (so long as both unity and distinctness are maintained) so much as the journey together here. I don't know that I've read those verses the same way twice, so don't be so determined to arrive at "the correct solution"(c) as to get him started in the process of understanding the scriptures himself.

mordorbund reacted to NeedleinA in Yikes! What I did while the forum was down...
After a couple of days of the forum being down, I started getting bored. So... regrettably I went and read a couple of other "LDS" forums, something I had not done before. No, I didn't go to any apparent anti-forums, but rather ones that gave off the initial feel of being in line with the church.
What gave off the appearance of mainstream LDS teaching quickly turned out not to be. Yikes! The spirit quickly left after half the posters started:
    1. Giving advice that members should be praying to Heavenly Mother
    2. Read some books by excommunicated members
    3. Priesthood authority had left the General Authorities a year ago.
That is about the time I said adios to that and have been waiting for LDS.net to reopen. So... Thank you to LDS.net and the many members here that share church approved doctrine. Funny enough, I'll be speaking in Sacrament fairly soon on "Blessings from Sustaining Church Leaders".

It is good to be aware of how modern events may align with ancient scriptural prophecies.  There should be a certain sense of urgency about our lives and mission.  On the other hand, Jesus' references to his return, and to signs of the end times were given to re-assure, and bring comfort--not to create anxiety and fear.  "Comfort one another with these words..."

I don't see anything about "Jews" there. Are you not of the tribe of Ephraim or some such? Are you not Israel? I know I am. I know I and my family and all the Saints who I deal with are. I know we are gathered spiritually first. I don't see the issue.
